S4E65 Beach Talk #111 - The Speaker of the House; Clashing Narratives in The Middle East and Washington

Join Ken and Betsey in a review of current headlines. Betsey begins with a review of  Ken's compelling conversation with David Dark. Congress finally has a Speaker of the House. Fears that Jim Jordan might get the gavel left them relieved when Jordan was defeated after grueling three votes. But the new Republican Speaker of the House, a relative unknown up until now, may appear to be a more pleasant, civil version of what may have been. On further inspection, Johnson's ultra-conservative track record reveals that he is an election denier and a pernicious Trump supporter who vehemently opposes same-sex marriage and abortion rights. He and Jordan have been close friends and champions of the extreme right. According to Mike Johnson, it's all rooted in a "biblical world view." Ken and Betsey take issue. Hate crimes are on the rise as narratives clash both in the Israeli/Palestinian War and on the floor of Congress.

    Episode Highlights

[02:31] Introducing Jenny and The Rooted Truth Podcast

    • Jenny has been married for 18 years and has 3 children.
    • She was previously in the mental health and fitness industry. She became a personal trainer after teaching herself weight training.
    • At the end of 2019, Jenny made a commitment to read the Bible every day.
    • Jenny was already incorporating the Bible into her fitness programs, but God directed her to start Bible studies and eventually launch her podcast.

    [08:57] How God Directed Jenny

    • She grew up in a Christian home.  She remembers a church member who prophesized that she will have something to say one day.
    • In 2021, Jenny struggled to keep up with her fitness business because of its superficial nature.
    • When Jenny felt burned out, she started hosting Bible studies. She had one that took 11 weeks long and resulted in over 170 pages.

[14:44] The Jewish Festivals and Biblical Feasts

    • The Lord’s Biblical feasts are not limited to the Jews.
    • Jenny shares how her studies and retreats coincided with important dates of the Feast.
    • She now partners with Remnant Rising to write Bible Studies.

(14:59) Reagan: “You need people to help you and come alongside you . . . It’s really fun to do things together and to have different creativity with sisters in Christ and people that God brings into your life. We’re not meant to do it alone.”

    [20:27] The Rooted Truth Podcast

    • Jenny’s podcast covers a variety of topics, from people being canceled on social media in 2020 to deep dives into Biblical topics.
    • There is also a members-only section for more controversial topics.
    • Jenny’s heart is for women to read the Bible for themselves.
    • Jenny also has a series of Bible Studies with corresponding PDF downloads to help people study them more.
    • There is a spiritual war. We need to be ready and know our enemies.
    • She shares how research about the Nephilim and pre-flood ancient technology has brought the Bible alive for her. Tune in to the episode to hear more from Jenny!
    • Gaining knowledge from her guests through their research on Genesis 6 has opened her eyes in a new way to the Scriptures.

[27:41] How to Look at the World and Be Grounded

    • Seek the truth with a Biblical perspective.
    • What do some of the mysteries of the Bible like giants really mean?
    • The more Jenny reads God’s Word, the more she realizes it’s a love story of God for us.
    • Jenny talks about having tough experiences, but she leaned onto God for rest and comfort.

(29:39) Jenny: “I do think it’s really important to have that Biblical foundation when you’re looking at the world because without that, I think a lot of people are falling into the New Age trap as well.”

    [33:45] Jenny’s Service

    • We all have a mission to spread His word.
    • There are so many things happening in the world. Wherever we are, that’s where we’re called to share.

(35:43) Jenny: “You don’t necessarily have to have a business around it or be on social media. Your mission field is where your two feet are planted. If we, as a body of Christ, actually step into that, what amazing things would happen for the kingdom.”

[37:39] Remember What God Did For Us

    • Remember God’s sacrifice and what it means.
    • This will help you understand who you need to be in Christ, not what the world wants you to be.
    • When man fell, the first sacrifice was an animal. The final sacrifice was the blood of Christ.
    • We don’t need to live in guilt and shame because of His sacrifice.

(38:21) Jenny: “So man fell, sin entered the world. That first sacrifice . . . God used that animal to cover them. So what now covers us [is] the blood of Jesus. So when you understand that and rest into that of who you are, not who the world wants you to be, but who you are in Christ.”

    [40:18] How to Raise Children

    • Whenever her children ask questions, Jenny would always point back to the Bible.
    • Children are different. We need God’s wisdom to guide us in raising them.

    [43:03] How to Stay Strong

    • Jenny recommends taking time off things. Pray and ask God for discernment and wisdom.
    • Be aware of what’s happening in the world.
    • God will reveal things to help people.
    • Remember, God is always with you. Bring Him more into your day-to-day life.

    CONFUSION CREEPING INTO CHRISTIANITY

    CONFUSION CREEPING INTO CHRISTIANITY

In today's podcast we talk about confusion creeping into Christianity.  Terms that used to definitively mean something have become useless.  We discuss specific things such as:

    What is progressive christianity?

    What is a biblical worldview?

Do you have a biblical worldview?

Is the Christian faith exclusive only to those who submit to the Lordship of Jesus Christ?

Did Jesus come to bring peace among people on earth?

    Was Jesus an environmentalist?

Can we have absolute truth with the Bible or is it incomplete?
