Pursue the Truth With Ed Nissen

Pursue the Truth With Ed Nissen

This episode was a game changer for me.  I have been following along with what Ed Nissen has been doing for a while, so having the opportunity to interview him was quite an honor.  i talk to Ed about masculinity, relationship dynamics, archetypes, personality types, how to recognize our strengths and so much. more.

Ed Nissen is a psychotherapist and owns a multi-clinician therapy practice in the Charlotte, NC area. He generally specializes in empowering people to be the ultimate version of themselves by optimizing one’s personality and how they create meaning in life.

However, Ed’s niche emerged organically due to desperately needing to transform himself as a man in a marriage. This transformation gave rise to his select specialty of male psychological development in the context of long-term relationships. Carving out such a niche led him to author a book manuscript on the matter that he is now proposing for publication.

Ed does not consider himself very competent at what he does because he believes competency is relative to the knowledge one aims to master. He perpetually grapples with abstract ideas and complex problems, and the subject matter of his book is one of them. The whole idea of male psychological development in relationships–as he states the problem–is deeply abstract and its complexity very nuanced. Therefore, he believes it would be fallacious to act as if he is competent on the matter.

However, this attitude towards competency allows him to openly explore the ideas and concepts with the curiosity necessary for acquiring a profoundly nuanced understanding of the male psychological development in relationships–relative to most who are considered knowledgeable about it. Between his personal and clinical experience—and his study of the research—his quest for the truth of such a matter is unparalleled by most. Ed believes there is much more to learn on the topic. While he does not consider himself the authority on masculinity and relationships, he hopes his work can be groundbreaking enough to advance the world of mental health for men.
