Ep. 16: Blair Underwood (Part II) - What Makes Blair, Blair?

Part II:  Tori continues exploring the ancient adage “to thine own self be true” and other pearls of wisdom to live by with one of the greatest spirits ever.  He seems to have mastered life, by mastering himself.  As a father, husband, filmmaker, culture maker and prodigy, as well as an award-winning Hollywood and Broadway actor, he always remains grounded while effortlessly uplifting and inspiring those in his orbit by simply being himself.  We’ve all seen him on LA Law, Sex and the City, Set It Off, and Netflix’s Self Made. Most recently, he was nominated for a 2021 Tony Award for Best Performance By An Actor In A Leading Role in Broadway's "A Soldier's Play," with the award show airing sometime this year.  They talk about his definition of success, mastery of self, philosophy on love, his beloved mentors, and so much more!  Here’s to one of Tori’s favorite spirits, Blair Underwood.

    KYD 093 - Gattaca

    KYD 093 - Gattaca

Hoo boy, darlings!  Who would have thought the stylish 90s sci-fi film Gattaca could bring out such intense feelings in your hosts?  Certainly not your hosts, that's for sure.

Vincent (Ethan Hawke) dreams of becoming an astronaut and exploring Titan, one of Saturn's moons.  But in a world where humans are genetically modified to be exceptional, natural born Vincent's genetic heart condition prevents him from realizing his dream.  Until genetically perfect Jerome (Jude Law) offers to let him use his modified DNA to join the elite Gattaca space program.  Vincent has everyone fooled, until the investigation of a murder within Gattaca's walls threatens to expose him.  Uma Thurman co-stars as Vincent's beautiful co-worker who falls in love with him while tasked with investigating him.

This movie is quite a personal darling of Dan's adolescence.  But will this tale of bio manipulation win over Chrysten like Ethan Hawke wins over Uma Thurman?  Join us and find out!  And don't forget to RATE, REVIEW & SUBSCRIBE!

Ep. 14: Blair Underwood - Confident, Casual, and Cool

Tori reunites with a great spirit, actor, producer… storyteller, an iconic esquire in television. He is a proud son, father, and husband, and an enlightened spirit of the universe. Beginning a career in the eighties, this culture maker and outlier has managed to do something very rarefied with his life - be a Black man who identifies with his community, honors his family and people, stays true to himself, and be a confident, casual, cool, and kind soul. More than a friend, Blair is like family and this incredible conversation is a tribute to his beloved mother, Marilyn. They talk about how he defines himself, his entrée into acting, his love of theatre, his role models, and so much more! Here’s to one of the great ones, Blair Underwood.
