You may consider Blind Melon a one hit wonder, if you think of them at all. While "No Rain" continues to be ubiquitous in 90s playlists, their three album run with Shannon Hook on lead vocals contains a surprising wealth of great tunes.
From a personal connection with Axl Rose to the cover of Rolling Stone, Blind Melon blasted out of the gate with their eponymous debut album. However, drug abuse (see their acid-soaked set at Woodstock '94) and the fickle taste of the music consuming public relegated them to relative obscurity even before Shannon Hoon's death in 1995 at 28.
While their sophomore effort, Soup and the posthumous Nico failed to make much of an impression upon their respective releases in 1995 and 1996, we at The New Dad Rock believe it is high time to re-visit these under-appreciated minstrels.
