#261 - Scrap Metal & Sexual Urges - Bantam, Connecticut

#261 - Scrap Metal & Sexual Urges - Bantam, Connecticut

This week, in Bantam, Connecticut, a horribly brutal & bloody scene reminds everyone of a very similar murder, a couple years earlier, and everyone worries that a serial killer is on the prowl. The newest terrible killing is brutal in its completeness, and has few leads, other than a man, who was helping sell off scrap metal, while drinking beer, from 7 in the morning, to the end of the day. Some people think this it's a terrible mistake, but most think that a disturbed & vicious murderer has been caught. Incompetence in the investigation, heartless brutality, and crazy court proceedings make this a truly insane story!!

Along the way, we find out that you can be a falconer, that DNA would have saved us all a lot of trouble in the 1970s, and that just because you breathe through a hole in your throat, doesn't mean you cant be a cold blooded killer!!

What's the Relationship Between Blood Type and COVID-19? With Dr. Christopher Latz

What's the Relationship Between Blood Type and COVID-19? With Dr. Christopher Latz

We hear a lot about blood type and COVID-19, but is there a significant relationship? Do certain blood types increase one's risk of getting COVID-19 or increase one's risk of having a more severe infection, or even dying? Do certain blood types lower the risk of getting COVID-19 and/or having a serious infection? And if there is a connection, what is the mechanism of action?
To answer some of these questions, Dr. Chrisophter Latz joins Dr. Eeks on Causes or Cures. Dr. Latz is specializing in vascular surgery at Harvard Medical School affiliate, Massachusetts General Hospital. He received his MD from Texas A&M College of Medicine and his MPH from the Harvard Chan School of Public Health. He has advanced training in observational research  and recently authored a study on blood type and COVID-19 that was published earlier this year.

Do mosquitoes prefer certain blood types?

Do mosquitoes prefer certain blood types?
Vinny asked us: "I have read mosquitos have a preference for blood type and prefer people with Type O blood over those with Type B, or prefer Type B over Type A. Is this true, and how do they know the difference between types?" To seek out an answer to this one, Adam Murphy got in touch with Immo Hansen, from New Mexico State University to find out... The Importance of Blood Type in Japan

The Importance of Blood Type in Japan

Do you know your blood type? Well, if you are visiting or living in Japan, you should. Knowing one’s blood type is common in Japan and the Japanese are very curious to know yours. There are four main types that most people fall into. The most common blood type in Japan is type A and is the most desired type to be. Why is that?

Similar to star signs from the Chinese Zodiac, the different blood types represent particular character and personality traits. There are also, supposedly, certain blood types that go well together, and others that are a complete disaster. Would you decide your partner based on their blood type?

    Conversation highlights:

    • What are the main blood types and what character traits do they represent?
    • Percentage distribution of blood types in Japan, US and the UK.
    • Why most Japanese aspire to be blood type A.
    • What are Ben and Burke’s blood types?
    • Burke shares the story of finding out his blood type in Japan.
    • Blood type used for compatibility.
    • Why is blood type important to Japanese people?
    • Japanese words of the day.
    • Listener question: Why did Ben and Burke come to Japan?
    • What the hosts think of the TV show “You wa nani shi ni nippon eh?” (Why did you come to Japan).

In the past blood type has been used to judge people in Japan, in particular there were instances when Japanese companies would reject potential employees if their blood type was undesirable. This led to people lying about their blood types on their applications. Fortunately, now, blood type is not a requirement when job hunting. I wonder if there was ever an issue with star signs in western countries?

Although Japanese people are interested in knowing about blood types, many foreigners still don’t know theirs, and don’t really think it is important. It is necessary to know one’s blood type for medical operations, but when that happens the hospital can find out as and when without needing the patient to know. They should find out for themselves because the patient might even lie about their blood type to be more desirable!
