"Standing in the Gap" No Filter Series #2

"Standing in the Gap" No Filter Series #2
In 1st Samuel 16:1, the nation of Israel and its future was at a crossroads. God has just taken His anointing away from King Saul and was moving towards the future by sending the Prophet Samuel to find and anoint the new king at the home of Jesse. But Samuel was in mourning for his friend Saul, and had no idea what God's plans for the future involved and what he might find while looking for this "new king". Join us as we look at how Samuel allowed God to use him to become a bridge between the past and the future and discover the parallels with the struggles the church is finding as it strives to reach the next generation. Samuel was willing to "Stand in the Gap" on behalf of the Nation of Israel and become a bridge from Saul (the past) to David (the future). Where are the Samuel's today that will help us move the gospel and our churches out of the past and into the future?

    "Daring to Deal with Depression"

    "Daring to Deal with Depression"
Depression is one of those topics you don't hear discussed much in church, yet it is said 20% of all Americans (1 in 5) will suffer from serious depression in their lifetime. Currently almost 19 million Americans suffer from some sort of clinical depression and a recent study found that 36 % of all teenage girls have suffered a significant depressive episode or consider themselves depressed. The Bible is full of examples of those who suffered from depression; from Moses, Job, Jeremiah, David and Elijah, the Bible speaks out on depression. Many of the Psalms give voice to those struggling with depression but the church has remained silent or depended on trite responses and false perceptions like; "You just need more faith" or "You need to Love Jesus more". All around us people are struggling and suffering in silence and it is time for Christians and the church to bring depression out of the shadows and deal with it. Listen in to find what really dealing with depression should look like! From 1 Kings 19, Psalms 40, Psalms 43, Psalms 102:1-10.

Making a House a Home; "To Be or Not to Be; Ephesians Series #14"

Making a House a Home; "To Be or Not to Be; Ephesians Series #14"
Many of you visited relatives over the thanksgiving holidays; some of you even spent the night with them in their home. Did you feel welcomed and at home or did you feel like you were crashing their party or cramping their style? Most of us have experienced the difference between a house (some place to stay - roof over your head) and a home (a place where you feel safe, welcomed and like family) but what we don't realize is that the Holy Spirit can tell the difference in our hearts. While the Holy Spirit comes to live in us at conversion, how we treat Him determines whether he just has a place to stay or a home. Paul tells us in Ephesians 3:17 that when He has a place to "dwell" or a home in our hearts; his power reaches in and through us to touch every area of our lives. Join us to discover the difference between a heart that is just a house and a heart that is a home. From Ephesians 3:14-17.

    Finding the Freedom of Forgetting

    Finding the Freedom of Forgetting
Sometimes the hardest part of forgiving is forgetting. Even after we have moved on from something or someone, the memories still hold us captive and can rob us of our joy and intimacy with God. How can you stop allowing memories from your past from hindering your future? We can learn a lot from Joseph and his life's story in Genesis. How does what Joseph named his firstborn son help us learn to forget? Join us for this timely word that interrupted our Ephesians series - it may be just for you. Genesis 41:52-53.
