    • Education of the craft beer industry and the business and community impact these breweries deliver

    WHY FATHER’S DAY WEEKEND?

    • By June, summer is starting to crank into full swing.
    • While we’re paying tribute to the things that make our nation great, our founding fathers also thought it a fine idea to tip their hats to all fathers. Because if there’s anyone who would appreciate a relaxing holiday weekend the Boulevardia way, it’s a dad.

    WHY GRAND BOULEVARD?

    • Boulevardia draws inspiration from the community in which we gather to celebrate. In 2014, we had our humble beginning in the West Bottoms in the shadow of the 12th Street Bridge, 2017 The stockyards…
    • Starting in 2022, we're thrilled to call Grand Boulevard – one of the most iconic thoroughfares in Kansas City – our home.

WHY DO WE CHEERS TO ALL?

    • There’s already too much trouble and disagreement throughout the rest of the world, so far be it from us to add to any unrest.
    • What makes us happy and our nation function most effectively is seeing people from all walks of life and of all ages, races, styles and personalities come together with the same motivations.

ENDING: Festival-goers will enjoy craft beer and food samples. There is also live music from local, regional, and national bands. A full lineup is available online at boulevardia.com/lineup.

Boulevardia is scheduled for June 16-17, 2023. Tickets and ticket packages are on sale and start around $40 per person.

#141 | Joseph Wheat | Team Lead, Partner Services at United Wholesale Mortgage | Naysayer of the "Death Pledge"

#141 | Joseph Wheat | Team Lead, Partner Services at United Wholesale Mortgage | Naysayer of the "Death Pledge"

Born and raised in the working class city of Detroit, Michigan. So things were hard.

I was raised by a single mother who taught me early on that the key to success was having a hard work ethic. That work ethic directly translates over to success in the mortgage industry.

I started working food service jobs when I was 14 and learned early on the value of elite client service.

As a youth, I fell in love with music and skateboarding. Those two communities were diverse, supportive, and got me through some tough times.

Since I barely graduated high school, I thought I would pursue another one of my passions -  cooking.

Flunked out of culinary school and worked hard in bars for a few years until I moved back to Michigan.

I got a degree in English education. Much like educators, mortgage professionals help individuals overcome obstacles.

Unfortunately, teaching didn’t pay well and I had a few friends that worked in the mortgage industry down at Quicken Loans.

I started at UWM in May of 2016 as an Account Executive. Rode that for a year, but teaching was in my blood.

I built a Sales Coaching Team here at UWM and eventually was selected as one of the individuals to build Success Track.

In 2021, Mat had a vision to create a team to help mortgage professionals all across the country grow. One of the main things I’ve picked up from Mat, is the idea of Servant Leadership. I embrace that as a leader of the Partner Services Team.

Work ethic, attitude, and the idea of reaching the top together is a mindset I embrace every day.

The mortgage industry is 100,000 percent mindset based.

If you wake up positive, you will make an impact, those impacts are little victories, those little victories add up to championships.

George Toma | The Sodfather | The Nitty Gritty Dirt Man | March 24, 2023

    • Pele quote: “The best field I ever played on was Wembley Stadium. The second best? Municipal Stadium in Kansas City.”
      • Maintained by none other than our guest today, Mr. George Toma.
    • At age 28, in 1957, he became the head groundskeeper for the Kansas City Athletics of Major League Baseball, a job he accepted precisely because the A’s and Municipal Stadium had such a notoriously poor history of groundskeeping.

    • Specialty of Astroturf maintenance VS grass - How does one study astroturf and it’s maintenance
    • Witkowski - What is the field you are the most proud of for a game? Worst field you ever worked on?
    • Do people still ask you for tips on residential lawn care? Do you still maintain your lawn here at home?
    • Comments from many listeners on how they used to watch the lowly KC A’s but the field always looked so beautiful.
      • On the broadcasts Monty Moore would go on and on about the grounds crew, how fast they could groom the field in the 5th and how quickly they could get the tarp down when it started raining.
    • Pressure/Expectations: Did the nerves ever go away before a large sporting event?
    • What have you enjoyed most about your role with so many major Pro Sports franchises and events?
    • Widows & Kids - Rumor has it that you use to help out around the city with caring for widows’ lawns & carrying around a bag full of baseballs to give out to kids?
    • Batters Box - Did you ever find the keys to the batter's box? 🙂
    • Cost - What does it cost to get the field ready for:
      • Average mid-summer’s MLB game
      • NFL Sunday game
      • Super Bowl
    • Insurance - “The cheapest insurance for any athlete, no matter the age, is a good playing field.”
    • Paul McCartney - You guys still keep in touch?

Special Cuts of Grass - How do they cut the grass to where you can see the crown or other symbols in the grass?
