It has strengthened personal testimonies and created a transformative experience for partakers of the program. Now, as Latter-day Saints study the Book of Mormon in 2024, this episode of the Church News podcast features the Sunday School general presidency, President Mark L. Pace and his counselors — Brother Milton Camargo and Brother Jan E. Newman — talking about the value of the Book of Mormon and all they have learned from “Come, Follow Me.”

Elder Dale G. Renlund on his testimony of the Book of Mormon and the Church’s distribution of 200 million copies of the sacred text

The collective “Come, Follow Me” study of the Book of Mormon for members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in 2024 comes as the Church is celebrating a significant milestone for the distribution of the sacred book. In 1830, the Church printed 5,000 copies of the Book of Mormon, that number grew to 100 million copies distributed by the year 2000, and as of the summer of 2023, that number had doubled to 200 million copies.

Now, as the Book of Mormon continues to find individuals worldwide seeking to know more about Jesus Christ and His role in their lives, Church members embark on a year of “Come Follow Me” study of this sacred book of scripture.

This episode of the Church News podcast features Elder Dale G. Renlund of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles sharing his testimony of the Book of Mormon, as well as his invitation for all to study and discover the truthfulness of the book for themselves.

In this episode of Another Ducking Digest, hosts Sarah Scudder and Lindsay Smith tackle the critical post-tech implementation phase for small and mid-sized manufacturers. They emphasize two key goals: first, to make the changes stick, they recommend celebrating the significance of the transformation, delivering personal and public leadership messages, and setting firm expectations for management and new process users. Second, they delve into the importance of learning from what went well and what didn't, expecting and embracing mistakes, and assessing how the People, Process, System equilibrium has shifted. They stress the need to anticipate push-back, uncover covert naysayers, and highlight that the implementation isn't a panacea, thus pushing for a second round of buy-in. They advise resetting and realigning the project for execution, challenging the team to acknowledge shortcomings, and seeking KPI tracking and concerns from all department managers, while rewarding superior execution. Tune in for a wealth of insights on post-implementation success.

Another Ducking Digest: October 16, 2023

In today's episode, Sarah Scudder and Lindsay Smith discuss small manufacturer workflow process automation implementation. Current social media suggests tech implementation is straightforward solution to every problem, but there is a risk there. The more areas, departments, and individuals a process workflow change reaches, the more complicated the adoption becomes. So many of us small-manufacturer supply chain team are recognized and rewarded for “getting things done." Technology adoption is fundamentally different, instead of “getting things done,” now we are changing the way we do things. So, what is a supply chain hero to do?

Sarah and Lindsay talk through the six best practice guidelines for success.

Another Ducking Digest: October 9, 2023

In today's discussion on small manufacturer technology adoption, Sarah and Lindsay focus on practical steps. While envisioning the destination is straightforward, understanding the starting point and necessary actions is crucial. Small companies typically aim for improved visibility, cost reduction through task automation, and faster decision-making via data accessibility. The initial implementation often begins with a proof-of-concept. Overlooked considerations include legacy network issues and data field cleanliness. Addressing these challenges involves connecting, communicating, and gathering data. Convincing stakeholders to support these efforts is essential, as data extraction can be costly and time-consuming. Benchmarks, not estimates, should guide the process.

In today's episode of Another Ducking Digest, Sarah Scudder and Lindsay Smith delve into the intricacies of manufacturing supply chain department budgeting. Each manufacturer's unique supply chain warrants distinct budget models, influenced by factors like industry, expenditure levels, market dynamics, commodity characteristics, sourcing methods, pricing contracts, and tariff implications. The budgeting process can be as intricate or as simplistic as desired, ranging from a comprehensive assessment of historical data and market demand trends to cost considerations, technology integration, risk management, supplier relationships, and workforce development.  They emphasize the importance of aligning the budget with both corporate objectives and 2024 supply chain strategies, engaging key stakeholders, and staying informed about industry developments and peer use cases.

Another Ducking Digest: September 25, 2023

Today we're diving into the ever-evolving world of supply chain management in 2023. Joining Sarah and  Lindsay as they unravel the intricate image of an effective supply chain practitioner.

They start by sifting through the clutter: from sourcing all the parts to navigating cost-saving strategies and coping with constant changes. It's a demanding field where long hours are often the norm.

They then offer a peripheral critique, noting the importance of staying engaged, transitioning from tactical to strategic thinking, and keeping a positive attitude to avoid becoming the office complainer. Observations reveal that branding oneself as tactical may not yield the rewards you deserve. Instead, focus on offering solutions, tackling MRP issues head-on, and avoiding unnecessary conflicts with other departments.

The supply chain landscape is in constant flux, so continuous learning is key. Dive into AI, embrace ERP add-ons, and sharpen your skills in Excel, Power BI, Python, and Panda. Keep an eye on China Dynamics and freight rate changes.

Communication is the linchpin of success—share your wins, challenges, and adapt to changes. Reinforce the broad scope of your role by connecting with peers and fostering collaboration across the organization.

Building a cohesive SC team enhances productivity, cost-efficiency, and customer satisfaction. Here are the ten SC career development best practices for small manufacturers:

Roles and Skills: Key roles like Procurement, Inventory management, Logistics, and Demand planning can overlap. Define required skills for shared roles, including technical knowledge and soft skills.

Growth Focus: Emphasize growth and cross-training over traditional promotions.

Training: Offer regular training, replacing traditional workshops with weekly team discussions.

Cross-Functional Exposure: Encourage experience across different SC areas for versatility.

Mentoring: Pair experienced professionals with juniors for knowledge transfer and career guidance.

Performance Management: Provide regular feedback and skill enhancement guidance.

Continuous Improvement: Implement process improvements, cost-saving initiatives, and emerging technology.

Recognition: Celebrate SC achievements, even with simple verbal praise.

Work-Life Balance: Offer flexible arrangements and wellness programs for employee satisfaction.

Engagement Monitoring: Assess employee satisfaction through surveys or discussions to enhance the work environment.

Strengthening the SC team benefits both the organization and team members.

ANOTHER DUCKING DIGEST: July 19, 2023

ANOTHER DUCKING DIGEST: July 19, 2023

Our weekly news show for supply chain peeps working in manufacturing is back. Our expert Lindsay Smith spent the month of June in Europe. He's back and ready to talk supply chain. Today's show topic: Coping with unplanned events in small manufacturer environments. The idea of process immaturity is more common in larger manufacturers. But more common in small and mid sized manufacturers:

-ERP isn't fully implemented - some reports don't run

      -ERP breaks

      -Bad/dirty data

      -IT has limited support

-ERP is not universally trusted across the organization (not the universal single source of truth)

-Limited budget for supply chain process refinement

-Organizationally supply chain empathy, less support

-Supplier base has fewer "best in class" and more single-source dependencies

-Fast order-entry may eclipse thoughtful scheduling

What this translates to in terms of ideal qualifications for supply chain:

      -Multitaskers

      -Flexible

      -Less structured

      -Collaborative

-Fewer KPS - need to make do with imperfection

How best to respond to these less uncommon events:

-Understand there’s limited opportunity to be prepared yet invest time planning for the unexpected

-Understand at best you will be watched and judged, at worst criticized and blamed

      -Humor is a super-power

-Adopt a process planning for the unexpected
