Enjoying the Bleak Midwinter, the Darkest Night with Robyn Dabney and The Utburd

The Nerds are sipping spiked hot cocoa and a drink inspired by the horror of The Utburd, a new story by our own Robyn Dabney, the first story in a new Gothic Horror anthology, Bleak Midwinter: The Darkest Night. Wrap yourself in a warm blanket, spike that coffee or cocoa with something to warm the cockles, and dive into a great new addition to midwinter reading lists.

reading bell hooks to love better, and with intention, with Ricki Cummings [S1E2]

What is love? And how can we love better if we haven’t first come to an agreement on what love even means? On this episode, Elle and her guest, Chicago poet and Hoorf! editor Ricki Cummings, dig into their shared affinity for bell hooks’ All About Love. Their wide-ranging conversation touches on the frustrations of domestic labor, lonely chickens, and giving our children a better template for understanding loving relationships.

    E.F. Dodd | Authors at a Glance

We had author E.F. Dodd on the podcast and chatted about how second-chance romance makes it difficult to do a meet-cute.

How the cast of characters and female friendships is important to the characters and to the creation of the romance and you rooting for the romance.

Writing a contemporary second chance romance, where the main female character maintains her career and falls in love, doesn't require them to give it up, or move home to a small town for a 'simpler life.

Also, I feel that we are now best friends ;)
