18WT #077 - Pulling In For The Night, What's Your Favorite Place To Set Your Brakes!

    Episode #077:

Today’s show started out with a big bang or at least a big, big belch if Patrick is to be believed! Janet argues the point and says that it was not as big as he claims. They barely managed to get past that point before they begin talking about their great big surprise.  It is the 4th birthday of the podcast show, and they are giving away gifts. They go through the fact that you got to be in it to win it and how Janet wants to call it the big Smackdown! She heard it in something that Patrick was watching and now she has it on the brain, SmackDown!!

So, they get back to the subject and Patrick starts talking about the gifts as Janet tries to shush him. Like that ever works! Then she gets to sing her ring our bell song, which always makes her happy.

They finally get down to business and start talking about where do you park your Big Rig at Night? They get into the subject with a bit of a deep dive with the usual jokes and puns between them.

However, they do bring up some great places in their discussion about truck stops and what they looked for in a place to park at night. As the laughs and memories go back and forth between them, you can tell the differences between regional and long-haul restrictions. As well as the restrictions that different companies put on drivers with the type of fuel cards they give them, reimbursement restrictions and all.

You can tell that this walk down memory lane was a good one and still should be helpful. Especially to a new driver just getting out there on the road without the knowledge gained from experience of having driven for years.

Episode 185-East Palestine, Ohio Train Derailment and Toxic Poisoning Response and Aftermath

Episode 185-East Palestine, Ohio Train Derailment and Toxic Poisoning Response and Aftermath

In this episode of the National Crawford Roundtable we review the East Palestine, Ohio train derailment and toxic poisoning response and aftermath.  How serious is this and what might the long-term effects be?  Why did Pete Buttigieg take 10 days to comment and 20 days to show up?  FEMA denied emergency assistance for 2 weeks, claiming it wasn't their job, but FEMA does provide water, food, supplies, and hotels to illegal immigrants bussed from Florida/Texas to Democrat cities upon their arrival.  East Palestine residents are reporting various health issues, while the EPA and Biden Administration are assuring them everything is safe.  Who are the biggest villains here: Norfolk Southern Railway? FEMA? Buttigieg? Biden?  What if this had been a Republican Administration responding this way, and the community affected had been an inner-city minority community?  How could the Biden Administration and liberal media falsely claim this was Trump's fault for deregulating a certain type of electronic braking system?  The brakes in question were not even allowed to be used on the train in question.  The Obama Administration's GAO Report from 2015 showed this type of electronic braking system was too expensive and not cost-effective.  Since Trump deregulated it in 2018, Biden or Buttigieg have had 2 years to reinstate these brakes and have chosen not to.   And, again, even if they would have, the Ohio train could not have even had this type of brake.

After a successful pro career, he went on to found a design agency. That eventually led him to relocate to New York and work with some famous liquor brands.
    Here is his story.

    DIY or Hire a Professional???

    DIY or Hire a Professional???

The Dumb Idea Podcast - Episode 11

Every homeowner goes through debate of saving money and completing projects on their own or paying for the professionals to come and complete the job quickly but at the cost of a few extra dollars. Are you the type to try and save a few bucks or do you not want the hassle.

With Youtube providing all the DIY videos you need, people can learn to do almost anything, but it's never as pretty or as easy as the videos show. When is it time to just break down and pay the money for a professional to come and handle things. Things as hard as re-wiring a bedroom to swapping out a car battery can be found online. But at what point is paying some extra money to a professional worth the time and aggravation of not doing something yourself?

Do you apply the same logic to your car repairs? Is that more of a DIY situation than your home?

HTL 016: The NO-Fear Guide to Basic Car Maintenance, with Kiran Gangarum and Jay Kgasago

HTL 016: The NO-Fear Guide to Basic Car Maintenance, with Kiran Gangarum and Jay Kgasago

#016 - Today’s show is an important one. It is a topic that gave me a lot of anxiety when I was younger, my kids have fear about it now, and I think many people are a bit nervous about this, and that is basic car maintenance.

Having a car is awesome. But there are a lot of responsibilities and expenses that come with it. I have talked about some of those in a few MOMINARS on my youtube channel: oil changes, tire pressure, smog check, registration. Pumping your own gas.

I suspect that some of the fear in dealing with these things is the potential expense. A warning light comes on and rather than deal with it, you kind of ignore it hoping it will go away or maybe it is programmed to go on just to get money out of you. And especially if the car seems to be running alright you might have a tendency to ignore it.

And then perhaps you have the impression that mechanics rip you off so you don’t trust what they say.

So who do you trust? What is the truth about car maintenance? How long can your car go before it really breaks down?

Luckily I have a couple of friends who graciously accepted my request to talk about this topic. Kiran Gangarum and  Korombi Kgasago, whom we call Jay for short, are not mechanics themselves, but they are extremely knowledgeable about cars and how to maintain them so you can get the most out of your vehicle for a long time.

Since this is not their livelihood, there is nothing in it for them so you can trust their answers!

You are going to feel a whole lot better knowing what you should do, when to do it, and what to notice and look for in your car’s performance.
