    What do you want to know about breathwork? 

    I asked you to share your deepest questions about breathwork, and in this episode, I do my best to share the most important and interesting information in response!

    This episode begins with a mini breathwork session, followed by a breakdown of many aspects involved in breathwork – including why I chose the breath pattern I chose and the various ways breathwork can support your nervous system. 

    The most frequently asked question was in regard to the nervous system and how using your breath can support you in coming out of dysregulation.  Listen in to hear:

    • How breathwork supports your nervous system health
    • Why deep breathing decreases the over-activation of the amygdala (or fear center of your brain), why it lowers stress hormones like epinephrine and cortisol, and how it activates the prefrontal cortex of your brain to help you focus and become present.

    • How breathwork can potentially support you in safely processing and releasing traumatic memories through non-judgmental self-presence.

    In the latest episode of the Simply Fit Podcast, I have the pleasure of speaking with Kevin Connelly. With a background in human rights and documentary photography, Kevin witnessed a fair amount of pain. Yet, It was only after falling into a deep depression that allowed him to experience pain for himself. After using nothing but breathwork and cold exposure to heal his depression very quickly, Kevin became impassioned to understand the 'how' and share it with others. Since then he founded the Mexico-based wellness company Reconnect, and has led thousands of travelers and locals through breathwork and ice bath experiences on the beach. Kevin and his team encourage their clients to embrace challenge and discomfort. They believe the more we can tip the dopamine scale to the side of pain, the more we can naturally feel pleasure...without pills or medication.     In has been breathing week on the podcast. First we studies internal breathing by Swedenborg and Paramahansa Yogananda. Next we studies dynamic breathing from Joe Longa. I thought this would be a good way to end the week with this adventure in breath.
