Faith And Family First (feat. Chief Murphy J. Paul, Jr.) | Retrospect Ep.87

In this week’s episode we discussed the three F’s: Faith and Family First. Which is from a TEDX Talk given by our very special guest Murphy J. Paul, Jr. the Chief of the Baton Rouge Police Department. The core of our discussion was to be good role models for young men, and Chief Murphy states “If we’re going to change the hearts and souls of young men, then I think it’s going to start with our faith-based community.”

Teaching Kids About Money - Part 1 (#35)

Teaching Kids About Money - Part 1 (#35)

A lot of people really  do wonder if they had began learning the implications of cash and learned more about financial management earlier in life what a difference that would have made in their lives now, and the lives of those in their family.

It's a topic brought up often with financial advisor Josh Nelson. In this two part episode he shares details about how people can do for their kids what they might not have gotten when they were kids regarding how to use cash and how manage money well.  In this episode, which is part one, he addresses question like when do I start when it comes to teaching my kids about money? How do I start and where?

Josh also talks about the importance of teaching them how to save money  and right ways to spend it.  And he emphasizes the importance of starting as early as possible.

Teaching Kids About Money - Part 2 (#36)

Teaching Kids About Money - Part 2 (#36)

This week is part two of teaching kids about money. So last week was talking about the three principles of early, often, and now.  So, on to Part 2. the conversation gets into a little bit more of the “what” this week. Why do I teach kids about money, and what do I teach kids about money? What are the most important principles that I need to teach them? There are three things today.

    • One is the value of money.
    • Two is how to manage money.
    • Three is what success looks like—how do people get wealthy? How do they get rich?
    • Check out the examples that host Josh Nelson shares.

Best of The Wiser Financial Advisor: 3 Rules For Paying For College (#34)

Best of The Wiser Financial Advisor: 3 Rules For Paying For College (#34)

Here in the month of May 2021, or May of pretty much any year, there are graduation ceremonies taking place for those graduating from high school. Is the traditional next step of college the correct next step? If that's the plan, there are several major things to take into consideration. In this episode of The Wiser Financial Advisor, host Josh Nelson talks about 3 of those things.  He actually calls them 'Rules" because they are so important to consider.

Rule#1:  Parents put on your own oxygen mask first.
Rule #2: Don't go into debt, please.
Rule #3:  Know the rules and use them to your advantage.

There are wise ways to approach paying for college, and with these three rules, and by being resourceful ( which Josh also covers in this episode) you could do quite well.

We hope you enjoy this episode and that you will write a review for us. Also contact Josh with your questions about this topic or any financial matter, and give us your show topic suggestions. Thanks so much.
