Upton Bell, first General Manager of the New England Patriots, Part 1/2

We proudly welcome back the first General Manager of the NEW ENGLAND Patriots, Upton Bell.

Upton has been a favorite of ours as we never have to ask for Untold Patriots Stories because he has so many and offers them freely.

He shares his thoughts on the Pats off-season, the signing of JuJu Smith-Shuster, reflects on Patricia & Judge, and asks has Bill changed.

Upton puts on his GM hat to discuss the Jack Jones situation and tells us what "pisses him off" about it, He speaks to how he watches a game and waxes nostalgic about the first televised NFL game. How does he feel about the newest people to be inducted into the Patriot Hall of Fame and who does he feel has to be given a red jacket.

It's always entertaining conversing with Upton.

Baseball and BBQ Episode #119: Author, Dan Joseph, Barbecue Hall of Fame member, Ardie Davis, and BBQ rubs and sauces creator, Dennis Michael Sherman aka Denny Mike.

Baseball and BBQ Episode #119: Author, Dan Joseph, Barbecue Hall of Fame member, Ardie Davis, and BBQ rubs and sauces creator, Dennis Michael Sherman aka Denny Mike.

In episode 119 we pull off a rare triple play as we have three outstanding guests; author, Dan Joseph, Barbecue Hall of Fame member, Ardie Davis, and BBQ rubs and  sauces creator, Dennis Michael Sherman aka Denny Mike.

Dan Joseph joined us on episode 51 to discuss his book, Last Ride of the Iron Horse: How Lou Gehrig Fought ALS to Play One Last Championship SeasonSeason and he returns to regale us with stories about Pistol Pete Reiser found in his latest book, Baseball's Greatest What If:  The Story & Tragedy of the Brooklyn Dodgers' Pistol Pete Reiser.  If Reiser's first season and a half was any indication, not only was he on his way to a Hall of Fame career, but he was on his way to becoming one of the game's greatest.  Unfortunately, part of what made Pistol Pete great, was his willingness to put his body on the line no matter what the outcome, and that included crashing into several outfield brick walls.  Dan presents Reiser's story in such a way that by the end of the book you will feel awful that Reiser's playing career was cut short by injuries and feel regret at missing the talented career that could have been.

Ardie Davis aka Remus Powers, Ph.B. is a 2016 Barbecue Hall of Fame member in the celebrity/humanitarian category.  Ardie is a founder of the American Royal Barbecue Sauce Contest which is the world's largest sauce contest.  He is a charter member of the KCBS, instrumental in the development of the Certified Barbecue Judge curriculum, and author of the oath recited by each judge prior to judging a contest.  Ardie has written numerous BBQ books.  He has also been interviewed by the History Channel regarding barbecue, on more than one occasion.  In 2003 he was named a Kansas City Barbecue Legend by the The Kansas City Star.  We affectionately referred to him as barbecue royalty, and you would be hard-pressed to find anyone who would say otherwise.

Dennis Michael Sherman is known by thousands of satisfied customer's as Denny Mike.  Since 2006, Denny, the creator of super-premium, all-natural and gluten-free sauces and seasoning blends has been selling these products with the DennyMike's label proudly displayed.  His products are sold in Whole Foods as well as Hannaford Brothers and fortunately online at https://www.dennymikes.com.  Denny shares his stories of a business which is extremely competitive, but having a great product has helped him prevail.  Denny has forged many wonderful friendships throughout the years and it is due to this that we were fortunate that he asked Ardie to join us, and we are very grateful for that.

Baseball and BBQ Episode #108: Irene Hodges and Gary Mack Share Their Reflections and Thoughts on Gil Hodges

Baseball and BBQ Episode #108: Irene Hodges and Gary Mack Share Their Reflections and Thoughts on Gil Hodges

Continuing our attempt to right a long-time wrong, episode 108 features Irene Hodges and Gary Mack as they provide compelling arguments for finally inducting Gil Hodges into the National Baseball Hall of Fame.

Irene Hodges is the oldest daughter of Gil Hodges.  She was only 20 years old when Gil Hodges passed away, but has many wonderful memories and stories regarding her father.  She would like to see her father enshrined in the National Baseball Hall of Fame, but she feels especially awful for the many fans who push to get him in and are continuously met with disappointment.  Irene is a delightful person to speak with, and she gave great insight into Gil Hodges which goes beyond the player and manager that most fans are familiar with.

Gary Mack is the long-time host of the Mets Musings podcast, as well as hosting the golf related podcast, Chip Shots, and serving as co-host on The Baseball Talk Radio Show along with Rich Baxter.  He has loved the New York Mets since their 1962 inception and has many reasons as to why Gil Hodges should be elected into the National Baseball Hall of Fame.  He has been a frequent contributor to this podcast, and we appreciate the insight he provides.
