104 Bonus Episode (Thoughts): Missionary Lessons

One of the Elders (male missionary) at my ward gave a great speach, so I asked him if I could use it, so here it is with my thoughts about the speech and how it relates in my life!

    LDS AND MEDIUM PODCAST BACKGROUND:
I was born into the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, or LDS for short. All my life I felt awkward and out of place, not because of my religion, but because of my spiritual gifts. It was hard to combine the idea of what first seemed like two separate worlds. So my whole life I have tried. I have learnt more about my gifts, and stayed faithful to my faith. But then I heard people left the church because it seems impossible to combine the two. So I am here, to try and mend the rift. To show that it is possible to be both LDS and to have, and use, our spiritual gifts. I am not alone on this journey, but my sister, who just is waking up to her spiritual gifts is by my side and she will also share her story.

Jesus Christ, our older brother, was a healer. He asked us to love one another. So let´s follow in his footsteps. Please join me on this journey, let´s make a community of strong spiritual LDS, or whatever religion you belong to, and all work together to make this world a better place.

    3 John - Which am I?

    3 John - Which am I?

To my dear friend Gaius, whom I love in the truth. 3 John 1:1
It gave me great joy when some believers came and testified about your faithfulness to the truth, telling how you continue to walk in it. 3 John 1:3
I wrote to the church, but Diotrephes, who loves to be first, will not welcome us. 3 John 1:9
Demetrius is well spoken of by everyone —and even by the truth itself. 3 John 1:12

As I was reading about this book, many spoke about its difference from the previous two: It was written to an individual vs a church/group. Others mentioned how it encourages hospitality to brothers and sisters, even those we don't know.

All of those are valid, but then God hit my heart pretty hard. He asked me the question, "Which of the three am I?" "Well, I know I'm not Diotrephes!" I responded, but there was silence. I then thought about Gaius who is loved by the Elder and who other believers testify of his faithfulness to the truth. I had to admit, that isn't me. My pastor doesn't really know me and I leave immediately after service.

Am I Demetrius? No, I don't have relationships with other believers who would say much of anything about me. My family might say that, but certainly not everyone.

Then I had to think, am I Diotrephes? Please God don't let it be so! However, do I love to be first? Yes. I usually put myself first. Sacrifice isn't something I'm good at. Do I welcome brothers and sisters? Usually, but only if I like them.

Sometimes we need to be hit square in the face to see things clearly and today, God used a 2x4! Thank you Lord for showing me I have so much further to go AND thank you for not giving up on me!

Join me in reading 3 John and be encouraged!

26th Sunday in Ordinary Time: Father Persing

26th Sunday in Ordinary Time: Father Persing

(September 26, 2021) Father Charles Persing,  pastor of Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish, reminds us that the Spirit of God is at work in all of us. "Are we responding to the Spirit of God?" Father Persing asks. "It is a gift from God . . . we can use it to serve our community . . . becoming brothers and sisters in the family of God."

We are called, he said,  "to look freshly at that Spirit day after day, moment after moment, in our life and . . .cling to God . . . let God hold us.”

This week we are challenged, Father said. "We are challenged to look freshly at that Spirit in us; not to hoard it within us, not just share it with the people who are special to us, but to allow that Spirit to empower us, to bring Christ to life in our midst, to bring God’s Kingdom to reality in our presence."

Let us witness that "reality in our presence," he concluded.
