    Reimagining Banking for Tomorrow

At a time when how we pay for things and how we manage our money has increasingly become embedded into our everyday interactions, from using our devices for contactless payments to getting financial advice online, financial institutions are integrated into everything and yet in some ways less visible than they’ve ever been. To talk about what this means for institutions and consumers alike, we’re joined by Dan Roberts, Global Head of Business Banking for HSBC. In his role, Dan travels a lot to get perspective on financial trends around the world. Here he shares what it means to go beyond banking to meet the needs of an increasingly digital world powered by data, AI and tech-enabled information sharing.

    CIBC chooses out-of-the-box functionality

The $653.6 billion Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce on Jan. 13 became the latest of the Bix Six Canadian banks to select the nCino Bank Operating System for its business clients.

Half of Canada's largest banks now use the cloud banking and loan automation firm, Cameron Sterrett, managing director of nCino's Canadian business, tells Bank Automation News in this episode of "The Buzz" podcast.

Key to nCino's expansion in Canada is that its banking solution is built on the Salesforce platform, features an open application programming interface (API) and offers a range of functionality out of the box, Sterrett noted. CIBC chose the company because it wants to modernize its small business banking platform and grow its portfolio while improving both the internal banker experience and commercial client experience, Sterrett said.

Tune in to learn more about the technologies these banks can expect to leverage in the coming year.

nCino shares [NASDAQ: NCNO] closed at $44.61 today, up 7.03% from market open.

Business under Lockdown - Amaiz talks to Verity Clarke Hair

Business under Lockdown - Amaiz talks to Verity Clarke Hair

    “Don’t panic, run with it.”

Verity Clarke was one of the exceptional case studies that emerged from Amaiz’s survey on the effect of lockdown on UK small businesses in 2020. Verity started her current company in 2019, and, as she says, "they say your first year of business is challenging, but come on now." Verity talks through her experience in setting up and running her business and the COVID uncertainty that has defined the past year in this pragmatic chat. She describes the “Mad Max moment” of contacting her clients, although this is a very different type of apocalypse...

Keeping the marketing alive helped the business but also added necessary sanity to the situation. Channels like Instagram have proved their worth, as has support from allied trades, but the bank and government... Not so much. As a new business, Verity’s another enterprise that fell through the gap for government support, although it took some sifting through information and misinformation to understand that.

Verity sees a lot of potential ahead and busy times. Logistics and equipment were particularly crucial in an industry heavily affected by safety rules. An industry that was slow to move to cashless payments has seen a shift, although it’s worth noting that tipping has fallen across the service industry.

A lot of this success comes from confidence, and that’s why these business stores are important to share.

Business Under Lockdown - Amaiz talks to Nicole Geddes of Manic Stage Productions

Business Under Lockdown - Amaiz talks to Nicole Geddes of Manic Stage Productions

“A moment in history when you can be a business owner and performer”

Nicole set up Manic Stage Productions 15 years ago and have since performed for clients of all sizes, including P&O, for the past few years. The entertainment business had grown every year until it… Was stopped in its tracks by the global pandemic. Nicole explains the grief that came with the abrupt halt and the mentality of keeping going, which defined Manic’s response. But there were dependent employees, who even if they were self-employed, meant abandonment wasn’t an option. Collaboration was and remains key. In March 2020, early on in the pandemic, Nicole used social media to show support and pass on experience.

An insight into a performer and an entrepreneur’s mentality during lockdown, Nicole’s story supports the idea that business owners should pivot themselves, whether there’s a crisis or not.

Business under Lockdown - Amaiz talks to James Garrett of HNE Media

From media production to online production.,,

Another chat to a business under lockdown. This podcast, we talk to James Garrett, whose video production company grew from moonlighting at university.

Videography and media companies have faced massive disruption during the pandemic. James adapted his company by following the flow to online. While HNE aways ad digital retail for videos, the lockdown accelerated company plans. By expanding training courses and moving physical courses to a digital platform, they pivoted to entirely online production, utilizing tools more commonly used for gaming a year before. Radically altering a business is one thing, but James has seen this as an opportunity to take stock. And interestingly, a chance for him to step outside, take a look at the business objectively and take a step towards what he’s enjoyed more.
