Greg Ford: Inspiring Relatability, Listening, And Leadership Talent

Greg Ford: Inspiring Relatability, Listening, And Leadership Talent

In this episode of the Reckless CEO Podcast, host Michael McGovern welcomes, Greg Ford, to the studio. Greg is a leader, husband, and pastor at One Church, one of the largest churches on the East Coast. He is also getting on television and has created a movement since planting the church 13 years ago. Greg shares his story of persistence in building the church, creating a culture, developing leaders, and more. He explains the spark that drove him to start One Church and the importance of creating something from nothing.

They both discuss the Greg’s experience of growing up in church and feeling disconnected from it. Greg states that he was a very ambitious kid and wanted to do something great, so he never saw church as the place to do that. He thought it was a place to apologize for bad behavior and sit through a boring service. As he got older, he started to learn more about the Bible and eventually realized that church was a place to make a difference and help people. He found that the principles of church and business are very similar, in that both organizations are meeting a need and building leaders and systems to do so.

Greg was motivated to start something great, but was struggling to get it off the ground due to not having the right packaging or marketing. He decided to go back to school and then became a youth pastor to meet people and build relationships. He then moved to Columbus and took a job at a fitness club. He would greet people as they came and try to learn their names. He had four focuses for launching his church: finding a location, building a team, raising money and spreading the word. He worked on these four things in the mornings and evenings and was surprised that the church got launched quicker than expected due to the relationships he had built.

The conversation is about the growth of a community. They note that the community has grown due to the authentic connection between its members, who may not always agree but who are all striving to help each other be the best they can be. Greg also recognizes the ability of the other to create relatability when communicating, noting that his messages are not forced but instead crafted in a way that allows for understanding and fulfillment.

Kelsey Lensman: The Power Of Perseverance And Building Relationships

Kelsey Lensman: The Power Of Perseverance And Building Relationships

Kelsey Lensman joined the reckless CEO Podcast to talk about her journey as an entrepreneur, fitness fanatic, and business owner. She began by introducing herself, explaining that she is from Canton, Ohio and attended Ohio State, where she rowed for the rowing team. She also discussed her brand, Empower Her Fitness, which hosts events and raises charities. She expressed her surprise at meeting up with the host of the podcast, who she had been running in similar circles with since coming to Columbus.

Kelsey had to make a difficult decision between pursuing athletics or their sports medicine degree. She chose the latter, and it was a challenging time for her as her identity was heavily intertwined with being an athlete. She felt lost and empty, and eventually got out of a bad relationship. One day, the kelsey looked in the mirror and didn't recognize herself, leading her to realize that she had to get themselves back. This was the hardest thing she had ever had to do in her life.

Michael and Kelsey discussed the way she got back to the gym after walking away from her sports career. She felt empty and needed to find her sense of self again. To do this, she committed to the gym and pushed herself to do things she never thought she was capable of. This was difficult, but she was able to find her fire again. She explained that it is important to have a commitment to yourself, as many of us are good at letting ourselves down. Even after we accomplish something, we must continue to push ourselves and not become complacent.

They discuss how complacency is a common issue among entrepreneurs and athletes, especially when they stop feeling the intensity and hunger for growth. To combat this, it is important to start with small micro commitments to get back into the growth mindset, and to take risks and push for the tens, even if it means risking the ones. The speaker uses the example of his own life, where he has been stuck in the fives and sixes, but has decided to take risks and push for the tens in order to reach new goals. He also alludes to a podcast he heard, in which the guest spoke about how so many people are afraid of getting to the ones, and how it is important to push past the fear and strive for the tens.

Uncovering Worthiness And Reaching For Best-Case Scenarios

Uncovering Worthiness And Reaching For Best-Case Scenarios

Michael McGovern, the host of the Reckless CEO podcast, recently returned from a trip to Arizona to attend an Upgrade event. The Upgrade event focused on neurolinguistic programming (NLP) and the reprogramming of unconscious memories embedded in our psyche from a young age. The Upgrade event coordinator used the example of a father telling his son that he can't have everything in life, as a way to show how we can have these unconscious memories embedded in us without knowing it. They explained that we only use 10% of our brain, and these memories can continue to manifest in our lives and affect the way we make decisions. Michael then went on to talk about his recent trip, and the conversations he had with mentors and how it has helped him to better understand the importance of addressing these unconscious memories and reprogramming them.
Michael is discussing how he went through a 21 day course that taught him how to break out of his normal mindset. As part of the process, he was asked to create a list of 100 items and experiences that he wanted in life. This was to help him think bigger, outside of the normal programming he had been exposed to from his family and friends. After feeling like he had a good grasp on the concepts, he went to Arizona to listen to a mentor of his speak. During the second day of the event, he was reminded of the importance of creating a list of items and experiences and that he should continue to expand the list as he goes.
Michael was attending a conference with his mentor, a successful entrepreneur. As his mentor finished speaking, the speaker felt a sense of insecurity, questioning why someone like him was even worthy of having such an influential person in his life. After the mentor's performance, he became a celebrity and people were asking for his attention. The speaker felt unworthy of the friendship and wondered why the mentor even wanted to be around him. He then watched William, the owner of Upgrade, take the stage and the speaker found himself reflecting on the opportunities he had been given through the mentor's friendship.
William, an influential mentor, asked a group to close their eyes and think of the feeling that was holding them back the most. The speaker had difficulty in locating the feeling, which made them feel unworthy and frustrated. The next day, they shared their feelings with William and he urged them to talk. The speaker was confused and frustrated with themselves and couldn't explain the feelings they had. William asked the speaker to talk and share their feelings in order to gain clarity. The speaker realized that they were feeling unworthy and that they had potentially buried the feeling so deep that it was hard to identify.

Jonmichael Long: Pouring Into Others As CEO & Achieving Lasting Growth Through Connection And Heart

Jonmichael Long: Pouring Into Others As CEO & Achieving Lasting Growth Through Connection And Heart

Michael McGovern and Jonmichael are excited to be in the new studio, which they believe will provide a better sound and look for their podcast. They have also been working on streamlining the post-production process, making it easier and faster for them to get the podcast out to their audience. The two speakers are discussing the upcoming Reckless Workshop and the various magazine opportunities they will be participating in. They are both excited to see how their product will look when they finish setting up their new studio. They also mention how they had to put the hammer down in order to get the studio done in time for the workshop. They are also excited to be featured in a media outlet that has a higher rating than Forbes. They also mention that their studio is unique, and anyone interested in visiting them can do so in Columbus, Ohio. In conclusion, the two are looking forward to the upcoming Reckless Workshop and all the opportunities that it will bring.

JonMichael Media Group, a Lewis Center, Ohio-based media group, is dedicated to providing its guests with high-quality, virtual experiences. Jonmichael speaks about the importance of leadership and the need to constantly feed into people in order to grow a successful business. He explains that leadership is similar to a vehicle - it needs to be fueled in order to keep running. The conversation emphasizes the need for leaders to pour back into their team and invest in their growth.

The two are discussing the importance of connection and being present as a CEO. They mention how stopping to have conversations with people that come into their office teaches them something, however there is no guarantee of any ROI from it. It is then mentioned how members of the younger generation tend to look for a return on their investments, but it doesn't always work that way. They mention how the CEO should be the example, leading the way and showing the team what is expected of them.

Jaiden France: A Year Of Ups And Downs Leads To Unbelievable Success

Jaiden France: A Year Of Ups And Downs Leads To Unbelievable Success

Jaiden France and Michael McGovern previously met at a real estate event and Jaiden has been working with Michael since May 2022. Michael is appreciative of Jaiden's loyalty and hard work and Jaiden is grateful to Michael for giving him an opportunity to be part of the team. They discuss how they met and how inspiring it was for Jaiden to hear Michael talk about his vision. Jaiden opened up to Michael and shared details about his life that he hadn't shared with anyone else. Michael is thankful for the connection and Jaiden is grateful for the opportunity to be part of the team.

Jaiden grew up in Columbus, Ohio, and always wanted more than what his family could afford. He started young entrepreneurship at 14 years old, flipping PS4s and iPhones, and worked at Discount Tires when he was 17. After COVID happened, he got furloughed and decided to get into real estate. He joined Rod Cleave's multifamily program and was passionate about it. He wanted to build his rejection muscle and credibility, so he took on a sales role. He also bought a rental at 19 years old, which was a mess for a few years but he eventually closed on it last week.

Michael and Jaiden had a conversation about how the universe puts other people's problems in front of us so that we don't have to make the same mistakes. They mentioned how opportunity brings more opportunity and how often people become aware of what others are going through more than themselves. They advised not to become half in on things and to really dial in on one thing. Michael encouraged the audience to say no to all the shiny objects and to focus on one thing to become successful.

They discussed the success of Jaiden, who is 21 years old, and the decisions he made to achieve that success. Jaiden explains he focused on one task and was successful with it, and now plans on continuing to focus on that task in order to reach even greater heights. Michael is impressed by the individual's success at such a young age and is excited to see what he can accomplish in the future. They both agree that focusing on one thing and being loyal to it is the best way to achieve success.

Nate Saxton: A Story Of Overcoming Obstacles And Finding Success

Nate Saxton: A Story Of Overcoming Obstacles And Finding Success

Nate Saxton is a new employee at the Columbus Roofing Company, the business owned by the host of the Reckless CEO Podcast. In the podcast interview, Nate talks about his background and how he came to work at the company. He grew up in the pipeline field and was a heavy equipment operator. However, he wasn't finding fulfillment in his work and was looking for more out of life. He found the Reckless CEO Podcast and was inspired to join the company and build his own business within it. The host of the podcast is committed to creating an entrepreneurial space within his business to help others build their own business. Nate has a great story to share and he is excited to be interviewed on the podcast.

Nate is a former motocross racer, having raced for twelve years before getting injured a few times and having to figure out how to move forward in life. After high school, he was still trying to get back into racing, but it didn't work out. Instead, he was drawn to the culture and atmosphere of the team he now works for. He also dabbled in football and basketball during high school but motocross was his main passion.

Michael and Nate were discussing the Nate’s experience with motocross and how it helped shape his career. Nate started off by saying that motocross is expensive and that this realization drove him to go to work. The speaker then discussed how being able to stay healthy is a key to success in any sport, and that multiple injuries ended his motocross career. Nate then transitioned to talking about how he pivoted after his motocross career ended, and he discovered a love for operating heavy equipment. Nate concluded by connecting the operating of heavy equipment to the hands-on feeling of motocross.

Jared Drake: Explaining How Vulnerability Leads To Leadership Success

Jared Drake: Explaining How Vulnerability Leads To Leadership Success

Jared Drake, the guest on the Reckless CEO podcast, expresses his appreciation for being invited and his joy of being behind the microphone. Michael concurs that he also loves the experience and that it's his ideal life. Jared then emphasizes the importance of making an impact and how he remembers being in awe when he was a kid of a guest speaker getting paid to speak. Michael agrees that it's important to make an impact and that it's not necessarily what someone says, but how they make people feel. Jared then talks about restarting his podcast and how therapeutic it is. The host agrees and shares that he also felt nervous when he started his podcast, but now realizes it's not about being perfect, but rather being authentic. Jared concludes by saying that is why he connected with the host's podcast, as it resonated with his beliefs and core values.

Michael and Jared had a powerful conversation after Jared attended an event Michael had organized. Michael believes that podcasting gives them the opportunity to connect with people in a real and authentic way. The speaker then talks about why they are in the conversation, which is to get content and stories out to the public. They also talk about how it is important to be real and authentic otherwise people won't connect with the narrative. Michael also talks about how if one tries to fake it, they will get caught eventually.

Jared grew up in Columbus, Ohio and had the dream of playing football for Ohio State. He was close to achieving that dream, but ultimately had to make the decision to stop pursuing it due to COVID-19. During his athletic career, he found that he loved developing his teammates more than playing the sport himself. After graduating with his undergrad from Ohio State, he continued his education at the school and gained valuable experience playing with some of the best athletes in the world. His experiences with sports and academics has led him to focus on personal development and the importance of culture, both in business and in his personal life.

Jared had the experience of being part of an unsuccessful team. He had great players who were all-Americans, but they still only managed to win two games a year. He learned a lot about leadership and connecting with people, and how to motivate people even when facing adversity. After football didn't work out, he decided to pursue a career with Navy Seals due to his uncle's influence. He learned that it isn't necessary to go through tough lessons to learn about leadership, as it is possible to create winning every day.
