    Chapter 6: Road to Repair

    Chapter 6: Road to Repair
Despite the 2001 Commission’s recommendation for reparations in the form of direct payments, the City of Tulsa continues forward with several plans to revitalize the Greenwood and North Tulsa area instead. While the city plans for its 1921 Tulsa Race Massacre Centennial commemoration, controversy swirls around the current Centennial Commission — a commission member and U.S. Representative challenged the legitimacy of President Joseph Biden’s 2020 victory, Oklahoma’s governor was ousted from the commission after signing a bill limiting race education, and a lawsuit for reparations against the city forges ahead.

    Chapter 5: Reborn

    Chapter 5: Reborn
In the last 30 years, Tulsa has been forced to reckon with its racist past. Historians began studying the 1921 Race Massacre after decades of silence from both perpetrators and survivors. The Tulsa Race Riot Commission gave its final report in 2001, detailing the potential for mass graves, the city’s role in the massacre and recommendations for restitution, including scholarships and reparations in the form of direct cash payments to survivors and descendants. Tulsa Mayor G.T. Bynum describes how his administration is tackling the stark inequality Black residents in North Tulsa face, but some community activists say it’s not enough.

466: Joe Rochioli Jr Built a House for Pinot Noir

Joe Rochioli, Jr. owns the J. Rochioli Vineyards and Winery in California with his son Tom Rochioli and his family.

Joe describes the events on the family farm in the Russian River Valley of Sonoma County around the middle of the twentieth century, when there was a shift from growing various cash crops to growing more and more wine grapes. He discusses his decision to pursue more plantings of grape varieties like Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, and Pinot Noir on his acreage. And Joe talks about what he discovered when working with those grape varieties in the various areas of his vineyards. He also explains how the market for the grapes evolved over time. In particular, Joe describes his relationships with Davis Bynum, Williams Selyem, and Gary Farrell. Take the demographic survey.

Episode 32: Lakers, Celtics Still Have Their Swagger

Episode 32: Lakers, Celtics Still Have Their Swagger
Last night, the Lakers and Celtics played like they had something to prove, and they did. Especially the Lakers, who blew out the Mavericks in a chippy contest that saw five players and one fan ejected. I talk about how all three of the two-time defending champions' question marks before the All-Star break have been answered in a big way after the break. Meanwhile, the Celtics handled the Spurs in San Antonio to stay within striking range of Chicago for the top seed in the East. Rajon Rondo was the difference in that game, but I also explain why he'll be the difference against those Bulls if they meet in the playoffs. I also get into opening day in the MLB, Jimmer winning AP Player of the Year, and Tennis, which has two big matchups in Miami, including Rafael Nadal vs. Roger Federer, and Novak Djokovic vs. the new top-ranked American player.
