Baseball Spring Training will never change - Ep. 341

Baseball Spring Training will never change - Ep. 341

We've wanted to talk about the idea that with all the changes in technology and player year-round training regimens, why does baseball continue to do things the same old way?  We explore the history of spring training and how much it is the same today as it was more than 150 years ago. But also how Spring Training is different for managers trying to build and maintain team chemistry.

Correction: While the Yankees were in the WS in 1976-77-78 they won the Fall Classic in '77 and  '78 after losing to the Big Red Machine in 1976.

#043 - Ted Barrett - Major League Umpire | Calling for Christ

#043 - Ted Barrett - Major League Umpire | Calling for Christ

Ted Barrett became a Major League umpire in 1994 and was full-time beginning in 1999.

Ted earned a master's degree in Biblical Studies from Trinity College and Seminary, and a doctorate in theology, with an emphasis in Pastoral Ministry, from Trinity. Ted's dissertation was "An Investigation of Faith As a Life Principle in the Lives of Major League Umpires".

Ted has a long list of experiences from his career in Major League Baseball.  Some of them include:

    • He was the home plate umpire for David Cone's perfect game for the New York Yankees against the Montreal Expos on July 18, 1999,
    • Behind the plate on August 7, 2004, for Greg Maddux's 300th win,
    • He became the only umpire in major league history to be behind the plate for two perfect games on June 13, 2012, when Matt Cain pitched a perfect game for the San Francisco Giants against the Houston Astros
    • The only umpire in Major League history to have been on the field for three perfect games.
    • He was selected as Crew Chief for the 2018 World Series. He was behind the plate for Game 3 which at 7 hours and 20 minutes was the longest game in World Series history.
    • In his first game, he was behind the plate as Roger Clemens started.

Listen in as we have a Conversation of Hope with Ted Barrett and discuss how God has placed him in a unique position for ministry through his organization, Calling for Christ.

    JD TALKIN SPORTS #759

    JD TALKIN SPORTS #759

Florida Sportsman  joined me today to talk about NFL Championship Sunday.  Both of us not fans of the Packers Matt LaFleur.  He should be a offensive coordinator not a head coach.  Props to Todd Bowles defense vs the Packers and Brady is going to his 10th Superbowl.
Patrick Mahomes showed us something but the future looks bright for the Bills and Josh Allen.
Florida Sportsman thinks the Niners would be a great fit for Rodgers.  I don't think he's going anywhere.
    Texans hire Eric Bieniemy.
Yankees getting under the luxury tax and first trade with the Sox in seven years?  George is rolling in his grave.
