My husband had heart disease in his 40's. We reversed it through diet.

My husband had heart disease in his 40's. We reversed it through diet.

When Sophia first got the news that her husband had heart disease, and was at high risk of a cardiac event, she thought 'That can't be right, he's barely 40' ...

Not wanting to lose her husband, and her children to lose their father, at a young age, she embarked on a journey to figure out what they could do.

Sophia is a client-centered health coach, meal systems expert, plant-based recipe creator and the fun loving mom behind Veggies Don’t Bite, where she focuses on helping people feel empowered instead of overwhelmed when it comes to overall health and wellness and teaches that small habits can lead to big changes. ⁣

She helped her husband better his heart health by completely changing their family's diet under the guidance of his cardiologist. She did this with a newborn and a 1-year-old, so knows what it's like to make a health change in the midst of chaos. ⁣

Being a teacher for 14 years, and getting her master’s degree in education, she understands that each person is unique in how they learn, and there is no one size fits all approach.⁣

She now has "retired" from her teaching job and runs her business full time while navigating life with 3 young boys. ⁣

Through Veggies Don’t Bite and her popular podcast, Real Food Real Conversations, she strives to help people find what works for their personal health and wellness!⁣

⁣In Sophia's words: "I’m Sophia, referee to three boys and one husband here in sunny San Diego. My talent is using whole food ingredients to create simple plant-based recipes that are bursting with flavor! I am also a meal systems master and provide guidance, systems and support to help real life busy people get healthier without tearing their hair out. I believe in a great balance between salad and fries, because life is too short for food guilt."

Wastin’ Away Again in Eric Robertsville (Lifetime Movie)

Wastin’ Away Again in Eric Robertsville (Lifetime Movie)

The Eric Roberts obsession continues for Sarah and Mary in their recap of Lifetime’s “Stalked By My Doctor: Patient’s Revenge.”  As the third in the “Stalked By My Doctor” series, this one does NOT disappoint. Sarah is over the moon with the double dose of Eric Roberts (since Eric Roberts’ inner-voice of reason  is played by, well, Dr. Mr. Eric Roberts). Mary is genuinely pleased that he finally “gets the girl” in this one - or so it would seem - and still isn’t really concerned that he wants to cut off the arms and legs of his love interests when his plans go sideways. Love hurts, right?

I’ll have the Eric Roberts with a Side of Nuts (Lifetime Movie)

I’ll have the Eric Roberts with a Side of Nuts (Lifetime Movie)

Getting a taste of Eric Roberts in last week’s feature just wasn’t enough so it seemed only fitting to gobble up the original “Stalked By My Doctor.” Sarah loved it more than she ever has and it certainly was not a disappointment for Mary. In fact, Mary had a hard time figuring out why he’s single in the movie and has to do any stalking in the first place; she’d be more than happy to stop working and move to Cabo with Dr. Beck. Sarah admires Mr. Dr. Eric Roberts’ tenacity and uniformly unhinged behavior, especially when it comes to online dating. Sarah also offers a warning to anyone being seen by a doctor who just used breath spray.

The Years It Took to Be a Doctor During the Pandemic with Khalid Pasha

The Years It Took to Be a Doctor During the Pandemic with Khalid Pasha

Episode 14. Khalid Pasha is a cardiologist who found himself working at a hospital in New York City in early 2020 when Covid-19 hit. He could never have predicted what would then happen, but the journey to get there and to have the opportunity to save people was grueling.

Doctors go through lots of school, lots of test, lots of practice, lots of good and lots of bad to get where they are. Over the course of the interview Khalid talks about how naive he was entering the medical field in the first place, and how much he’s learned along the way. As tough as it is to be a doctor, there are few things as hands on and gratifying as saving people.

Together with host Greg Martin, the two discuss why Khalid chose his path, the ins and outs of medical school, choosing his specialty and what it was like to transform a hospital in New York in the early days of the pandemic.

How Does Fear Affect Your Body? – Dr. Sam Kojoglanian

How Does Fear Affect Your Body? – Dr. Sam Kojoglanian

“You may think, ‘I’m ok. I’m going to sit here and watch the news over and over again,” but it’s affecting your entire body… When our spirit dips into God’s Word, it redirects the mind and the body; there is calmness, goodness, peace, and even health.”

Did you know that fear can impact your whole body? What you think and what you speak can actually alter your body physiologically. So, what are the effects of living in a prolonged season of uncertainty, stress, and anxiety as we face COVID-19?

Today on the podcast, Crystal is talking with Dr. Sam Kojoglanian, an award-winning cardiologist who uses his God-given skills to practice medicine with compassion. Nicknamed “Mender of Hearts,” Dr. Sam joyfully inspires his patients to live healthier, stronger, and more peace-filled lives. Listen as he shares about the interconnectivity of your heart, mind, and body, and the havoc that fear can wreak when you place your focus on information rather than the sovereignty of God. Be encouraged by his contagious joy as he shares what it means to have a faith that triumphs over fear!

TMJ: 040 How To Be A Cardiologist

There’s so much to talk about being a cardiologist as it is one of the most in-demand physician careers in our time.

How do you become a cardiologist? How long does it take to do cardiology? What is a cardiology career and lifestyle like? How much do they get paid?

Personally, as an internal medicine resident, I have taken a lot of interest in the field and even consider becoming one. But like any other doctor's career, the path can be strenuous and demands a lot of portion of your time, finances and mental prowess.

This is why in this episode of the TMJ show, I talk about what it takes to become a cardiologist, the perks of pursuing cardiology as a life-long career, and why you may want to think about being one even early on in your pre-med days.
