Saltburn (2023): "So Gossip Girl Coded"

Saltburn (2023): "So Gossip Girl Coded"

Is this week a Fifth Tuesday? Is Saltburn (2023) a horror movie? Spookies, those questions are more for you than for us — but we do have a lot to say this week. Like, A LOT. Somehow, without really meaning to, we accidentally talked for almost three whole hours about Emerald Fennell’s newest film (and actually, if you count the bits that we cut out, we really talked for even longer). But, hey, if you’ve heard anything at all about the 2006-era flick starring Barry Keoghan and Jacob Elordi, then you know that conversation is just one of the many things it provokes. On our latest Spooky Tuesday, we’re discussing our first impressions, the Gossip Girl of it all, and that killer soundtrack, plus so (so so) much more.

Saltburn (Holiday Special w/ Renée and Tighe)

Saltburn (Holiday Special w/ Renée and Tighe)

We made it to the end of 2023. And OH what a year it has been. Has it been as exciting and riveting as the completely unidentifiable nor unique 2000's? Probably not.

In a sudden twist, as part of our annual "Christmas Key Party" (lol jks, kinda) we wined, dined, and we seduced Tighe and Renée into watching the newly released SALTBURN, written and directed by Emerald Fennell. The real twist is that we rarely cover new movies but this is something special. Without going in to too much detail, this might be one of the best moments in any film we've uncovered on this podcast.

Seriously guys, if you haven't seen the film, watch it please. Don't ruin it for yourselves listening to us blabber on about it. You have no excuse as the movie is available on Amazon Prime as of today (December 22, 2023) so it's free to subscribers.

Expect SPOILERS AHOY in this special festive and bumper final episode of 2023! Happy Holidays and many thanks to our listeners for sticking us out this long! See you in the New Year ya filthy animals!

Episode 2-Far from the Madding Crowd

Episode 2-Far from the Madding Crowd

We rarely find a more determined fictional female character in literature from the late 19th century than Bathsheba Everdeen.

Guided by a strong will and a deep-rooted desire to build her path while keeping her full independence, Bathsheba learns the hard way that love and companionship are still not that bad after all.

A film full of breathtaking landscapes, a plot with unexpected twists, and a love story to remember, Far from the Madding Crowd made us think about women's leadership in an unusual time and place as well as the hard choices we sometimes get in life.

***Spoiler alert! While reviewing this film, we go through key scenes and may reveal the ending, so be warned of spoilers!***

Folge 1172: SHE SAID - Das Ende der Unantastbarkeit

Folge 1172: SHE SAID - Das Ende der Unantastbarkeit
