Flower power: Jets lose 4-2 to Wild as Fleury wins goaltending duel

Ken Wiebe and Sean Reynolds of Sportsnet dissect the Winnipeg Jets 4-2 loss to the Minnesota Wild on Wednesday night. That left the Jets with seven losses over the past eight games as their record dipped to 36-26-3 on the season. With 17 games left to go in the regular season, the Jets cushion for the eighth and final spot in the Western Conference has almost evaporated entirely, as the Calgary Flames are four points back (and even in games played) and the Nashville Predators are six points back (with four games in hand). The Jets open a three-game road trip against Paul Maurice and the Florida Panthers on Saturday and they'll be without centre Pierre-Luc Dubois, who suffered a lower-body injury on Monday against the San Jose Sharks. Jets head coach Rick Bowness said the hope is that Dubois could rejoin the Jets before the road trip is complete.

The wild have won seven of eight and are one point behind the Jets in the chase for second spot in the Central Division. The Jets are back in action on Thursday against the Vancouver Canucks.

PLAYOFF PUSH!! Western Conference Wildcard Race + Injuries, Key Signings Making A Difference - Episode 81 of The Pond
What is UP guys! We're back! The playoff race has heated up considerably, and a couple key contenders are facing down the barrel of an early summer golf trip. Can Vegas pull it together in time? Can LA hold on? Are the Arizona Coyotes still a flaming pile of trash? These are the type of hard hitting question the boys tackle this week. With the playoffs around the corner, of course we're starting to see the injuries pile up. Which key injuries do the boys think will make the difference come playoff time, and which teams have the best plug-and-play replacements? Teams signing NCAA talent seem to be doing something right in this regard. As you might be able to tell, we were on a heater this week. Plenty to talk about, and next time you hear from us it'll be playoff prediction time so fasten your seatbelts because the business end of the NHL season is here!

Ken Wiebe and Sean Reynolds of Sportsnet drill down into the Winnipeg Jets 2-0 victory over the Minnesota Wild on Tuesday. Mark Scheifele scored on the power play and Connor Hellebuyck posted a 27-save shutout (his third goose egg of the season) as the Jets snapped the six-game winning streak the Wild took into the contest. The Central Division matchup featured plenty of intensity and some bad blood as well, which should only heighten the stakes going into next week's rematch. The Jets improved to 19-17-7 on the season and are still seven points behind the Calgary Flames in the chase for the eighth and final playoff spot in the Western Conference.
