Ep. 35 - Are You Even Qualified To Be In A Relationship?

Ep. 35 - Are You Even Qualified To Be In A Relationship?

    Hey friends,

I know this question/episode sounds condescending af, but it is, a little.
Are you that person who jumps into a relationship willingly without any consequences just because there are "feelings" involved? Do you just go with the flow? You wait around for your partner to "call the shots"? Afraid of being alone? Afraid of cutting ties? Afraid of feelings itself? Afraid of saying exactly how you feel?

Either way, if you're a human who is trying to better their relationships, listen to this.

I have 13 questions you can ask yourself before entering any kind of relationship.
Are you truly qualified to be in one?
    And what makes you qualified?
Truly ask yourself these questions and take action.

Relationships are meant to teach us, so even if you're in one and you find yourself stuck, it's okay, You're not truly stuck, you just need a new perspective change. See it through your lens. The lens that puts yourself first.

NOOO! It's "cruel" to put yourself above anyone in a relationship. But is it really though?

When you know, honour, love and stand up for yourself, you're able to teach others how to treat you.

It took me a while to learn that, and I'm still learning each day.
    Nonetheless, I'm CERTIFIED.

Where do you land on this spectrum? Are you certified yet?

    Masego

    Masego

Originally born in Jamaica, and relocating to Virginia USA at the age of 8, Masego is a multi-talented solo artist, saxophonist and music producer who has coined his own genre, "Trap-House-Jazz".

Masego is the stage name of "Micah Davis" who, by all accounts, grew up in a traditional and religious household. He was however surrounded by music growing up. At home his bedroom was also the place where his parents kept their large collection of vinyl records which included everything from Stevie Wonder to Cab Calloway. At Church, Masego was exposed to Gospel music and declared drums as the first instrument he gravitated to.

As a teenager, via his friends in high-school, Masego would be exposed to Hip Hop music for the first time, and became a fan of artists such as Andre 3000. It was around this time that he started taking music more seriously, jamming with other musicians and starting to make his own beats.

Today Masego is a rising R&B artist with impressive collaborations under his belt, such as the track "Champagne Poetry" with Drake.

Join Jay and Jesse as they take a deep dive into Masego's work, and discuss the inspirational themes that come up.

"Roots to Grooves" is a production of SIGNL.

Drake's Certified Lover Boy Review, Kanye West's Donda and Moonlight Review

In this episode, Wellington and Savon are joined by special guest Maurice Hendricks, a long-time friend of the show and special guest. They review Drake’s latest album Certified Lover Boy and discuss the lengthy track-list along with how this project had a better song structure compared to Scorpion and why he’s so effective on lyrically dense tracks. They also review Kanye West’s 10th album Donda and the interesting mix of ideas along with why certain fanbases aren’t still connecting with the newer version of Kanye plus how it compares to CLB. Finally, they review Summer Walker’s 2019 debut Over It and discuss how she paid homage to older, more traditional R&B and it still containing elements of hip-hop.

In the second half, they review Moonlight, the 2016 coming-of-age drama film written and directed by Barry Jenkins. Starring Trevante Rhodes, Andre Holland, Janelle Monae and Ashton Sanders. They dive into how this was a master class character study, it being a uniquely told film and Barry Jenkins bringing in three different actors to play the main character in a masterful way. Finally, they discuss how Mahershala Ali was able to win Best Supporting Actor and effectively convey and execute on the character of Juan.
