    ----------------------

Welcome to 15 minute free thinking. My name is Carpo,  and my podcasts are  intended to serve as a learning tool for myself and others, as well as a bridge for communication between a society I see as having more potential than we are allowing ourselves to use. We are all just people, living as best we can, and I feel good dialogue can really help us lead better lives.

If you are interested in joining the discussion, visit me on Youtube, discord, or patreon, of which I will have more information about at the end of the podcast.

I appreciate you taking the time to listen, wherever you may be, and I hope you enjoy the show.

Many of these ideas are merely my own opinions. Any mention of substance use or my experiences should not be taken as advice, as what works for me may not work for you. Each of us is unique. I'm just some dude on the internet. But I am a dude that cares about the Truth. And I can admit when I do not know, and more importantly, when I am wrong.

I am just here learning like the rest of you all and want to share my experiences.

I try to stick to the facts where possible, but that is not always easy when we speak of complex matters, so I may make mistakes, but always try my best to present accurate, honest information to the best of my ability.

That said a lot of it may be conjecture and my own opinion.... and as I learn, I adjust my list of facts, so feel free to point out wherever I may be lacking, or have the wrong information.

So with that out of the way, let's get into it.

Virgil Abloh - Fashion, Art & Mentoring by Existence

Virgil Abloh - Fashion, Art & Mentoring by Existence

Virgil Abloh is one of the most interesting designers working in the global fashion industry today. He is the artistic director of menswear at Louis Vuitton, as well as the creative force behind his own brand Off-White. A true polymath, he is a multi-media artist who moves culture forwards and describes his creative process, across multiple platforms, as “taking an idea and dreaming it aloud”.

In this, the first episode of Series 2, hosts Simone Cipriani and Clare Press sit down with Abloh to discuss diversity and inclusion, his latest projects, what he calls “mentoring by existence” and his personal creative journey. It’s conversation as a rollercoaster ride swooping from Andy Warhol to Miles Davis and James Baldwin to Caravaggio, fashion students, Abloh’s aims and inspirations, and the role of a designer today.

Episode 5: Blackity Black Black Black

Episode 5: Blackity Black Black Black

Award shows this week can be described in four words: Blackity Black Black Black.  Round of applause for the culture.  Black celebrities and designers dominated both the Emmys and the CFDA awards with well deserved accolades for their creative contributions to the television and fashion industry.  Our collective favorites include Zendaya in Christopher John Rogers and Armani Privé and Regina King in two Schiaparelli looks, including a shocking pink suit worn with a Breonna Taylor T-shirt.  It was also a big week for black designers. Kerby Jean-Raymond, Telfar Clemens and Christopher John Rogers all won CFDA awards.  It was great to see these talented three finally be recognized by the fashion industry.  Here's to more wins for the culture.

Art Meets Streetwear At the Hand of Award-Winning Rochambeau Creative Director, Laurence Chandler

Art Meets Streetwear At the Hand of Award-Winning Rochambeau Creative Director, Laurence Chandler

Art meets streetwear at the hand of Laurence Chandler, through the sophisticated menswear pieces from Rochambeau, where he serves as co-founder and creative director. The award-winning brand has successfully mastered the tricky marriage of artistic expression and wearability season after season, and in an exclusive conversation with Verishop, Laurence opens up about the brand’s design process.

Listen to the episode, then shop the looks discussed on the show with free one-day shipping on Verishop.

Laurence has been able to walk the thinnest of lines, combining art and commerciality, and do it with the highest honors. He’s collaborated with globally respected artists, and his work has graced the galleries of the New Museum -- and the iconic frames of model Cara Delevingne, musician Quavo and NBA star Carmelo Anthony.

It’s his ability to absorb disparate ideas and the cultural ethos around him and turn them into the luxe streetwear designs that have earned Rochambeau the prestigious Woolmark Prize and the honor of being a CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund finalist.

Plus, at the end of the show, catch a special bonus clip taped in front of a live audience of retail insiders at Project Vegas, one of the biggest men’s streetwear and contemporary trade shows. Alex sat down with Karl Kani, known as the Godfather of Urban Streetwear, who’s dressed greats like Tupac and the Notorious BIG, and with Jeff Staple, the man behind brand Staple Pigeon, who brought streetwear collabs mainstream.

    Episode 13: Fashion + Jewelry

    Episode 13: Fashion + Jewelry

As with beauty and fashion, the ethical element of jewelry is dependent on source and supply chain. While arguably the brightest and possibly most expensive items in our wardrobe, the glitter of jewelry can mask the deplorable conditions that are rampant in this industry. What is being done to combat these issues? To discuss is renowned sustainable jeweler and co-chair of the CFDA's Sustainability Committee - Melissa Joy Manning.
