Character Design for Animation with Adam Dix
Iconic and memorable cartoon characters have touched most of us at some point in our lives. Adam Dix specializes in creating engaging and iconic characters that many of you are likely familiar with.
This weeks episode of AnimationU explores the role of a character designer. In addition to educating us on what a character designers role is, Adam dives deep into the psychology that goes into creating iconic and beautifully designed characters for film.
Adam studied at the Academy of Art San Francisco. He is a character design lead, character designer, prop and EFX designer as well as a character design instructor at Art Center College of Design and Los Angeles Academy of Figurative Arts.
Adam’s extensive list of studio experience includes Walt Disney TVA, DreamWorks Television, Nickelodeon, Cartoon Network, Warner Brothers, Wild Canary, Bento Box, Netflix, Big Idea Studios and others. Some of his projects include Cup Head, Central Park, Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Boss Baby, Sofia the First, and others.

Haare
Jasmin und Serina tauchen ein in die Welt der Haarnerds und besprechen was es dort zu finden gibt, aber auch darüber was ihre Haare ihnen bedeuten. Daneben sind Haare prägend für Charakterdesign und damit wert für das Rollenspiel bedacht und besprochen zu werden. Natürlich sind Frisuren auch oft Ausdruck von Queerness. Genug Material für einen Rundumschlag.
#22 Tristan Fischer und Marius Eder: Neugründung des Digital Design Studios TACTYC
Tristan und Marius sind sich zum ersten Mal während Tristans Praxissemester bei ProSiebenSat.1 über den Weg gelaufen. Danach haben sich ihre Wege für viele Jahre getrennt, bis sich die zwei 3D Motion Artists vor einiger Zeit bei Instagram wiederentdeckt und festgestellt haben: Hey, wir machen ja eigentlich genau dasselbe. Die beiden haben den Kontakt wieder aufgenommen und angefangen, gemeinsam ein bisschen rumzuspinnen. Dabei ist die Vision von TACTYC Studio entstanden. Anfang Januar haben die beiden nun ihre gemeinsame GmbH. Wir haben darüber gesprochen, welche Vision sie mit ihrem Digital Design und Motion Studio verfolgen, wie sie sich intern aufteilen und ob sie keine Angst vor dem Scheitern haben. Außerdem habe ich mit Marius, der in Kürze zum ersten Mal Vater wird, darüber, wie er Gründung und Baby unter einen Hut bringen will. Es war eine wirklich lustige Folge. Wir haben viel gelacht und ich habe beschlossen, nun öfter Folgen zu dritt zu realisieren. Viel Spaß beim Reinhören.
Character Design, Caricature, and Embracing a Creative Mindset with Stephen Silver
Mike talks about his recent mushroom ink piece and shares a view into his pencil case. Mike is then joined by Stephen Silver to talk about the creative journey that has allowed him to work at Disney, Nickelodeon, and many others. Stephen shares what inspires him and how he arrived at the point of being an artist as well as a teacher. He talks about what he has learned as a teacher and he shares what we can learn from having a positive creative mindset.
