1. Welcome to Bachademia. Bill is on a wilderness adventure. He set up some creepy thing that lets people track him and last time I tried it, I got an error message, so I hope Bill didn’t get eaten by a bear. In his absence, we have the wonderful, the witty, co-host Kim Hanna !

3. This episode was full of interesting fashion choices, from Katie’s sparkly plaid coat/dress to Brendon’s bangs. However, the episode began with a recap of the Thomas drama before swiftly moving us into the Truth of Dare group date.

• Special guest, making her second appearance on Bachademia: Aunt B, otherwise known as Briana McGeough, an assistant professor at the University of Kansas in the School of Social Welfare. 
• Question of the week: If you were on the Bachelor/ette for the wrong reason, what would that reason be? 
• So this episode starts with Karl’s accusation that men are there for the wrong reason. Katie decides to call the evening short and move right to the rose ceremony. She steps away for a moment. Greg checks on her. Karl air boxes. Again. The men unionize, i think. Someone said, “We have a responsibility as a unit to protect the Queen.” Like, folx, are we watching the Bachelor or Shadow and Bone. What show is this? 
• Rose ceremony. Mike P. starts talking unsurprisingly about his duty to protect her. Then he very dramatically interrupts the rose ceremony to call Karl out--- as a unit. 
  • Who goes home? Karl, Kyle, John, 
• Group date: The men are freaked out because she signed it “…” instead of heart Katie. Y’all. That’s some 7th grade level stuff.
• The story circle is led by Nick Veill. The prompt is to tell  stories about things you are not  so  proud of. 
  • Katie discloses that she was sexually assaulted (TRIGGER WARNING, this content does contain conversations about sexual consent and assault ). 
  • Katie talks about how she has had to work to develop her sex positive viewpoint post assault. Briana can you tell us a little bit about sex positivity? Briana Extra Credit.
• Then we see the men sitting on workout mats back where they are staying, and Michael tells his story. This is an example of unprompted disclosure. Thoughts about this moment especially as contrasted to the story circle?

• The show moves back to the evening portion of the group date. Katie is wearing a very big suit jacket over her dress.

• Aaron is still talking about Thomas. Normal reaction or a bit over the top?
• The men really seem united this season. The episode ends with the men confronting Thomas. Thomas admits that he has thought about becoming the Bachelor. Honest, dumb? His honesty isn’t the problem, it feels like he is using honesty in some sort of sketchy way. Nick Viall said something oddly insightful: “I don't’ think Thomas said anything wrong in the group, what he did wrong was he always talked to Katie about their relationship, not with Katie about their relationship.”

  • E.C. (Danielle) Katie seemed to think she could detect Cody’s lie. He was too polished in his response. Can we tell if people are lying? The research says, nope.

  • Michael discloses he is a single dad and Katie digs it.
  • Karl decides to start some ish and starts declaring dudes are not there for the right reasons, the guys are like Karl just worry about Karl, but Karl choses violence.

1. Welcome to Bachademia! On Monday, the Bachelorette premiered with Katie as the lead! We are excited for a wild season. We do not have a guest with us today, just Danielle and Bill here. It is summer. We are in summer mode-- which means we don’t have our shit together. But we are delightful and promise mildly witty commentary and a few academic-y facts for your listening pleasure.
2. Question of the week? what is your go to ice cream flavor?
3. Like a summer’s day, the episode begins hot. Not really, I just thought that seemed like a clever transition. The episode begins with Katie talking about being chosen to be the Bachelorette and she explains what she is looking for. Bill, did any of this stand out to you? 
4. They show a quick sneak peak of the guys and then we cut to Katie waiting for the men to pull up in the limo. Nothing happens and then Tashia and Kaitlyn sneak up on her. There are a few things to note here:
5. Thomas is the first out of the limo. The show really shows more tame entrances first. We have Thomas, Aaron, Andrew, and David. All a bit blah. 
6. Then we get a little bit silly with Miachel who pretends to give Katie a family heirloom and then Tre who has balls in the back of his truck. 
7. Greg is next. They have what I think is a pretty awkward interaction, she says that he looks like one of her exes. Eeeeeeh? 
8. Then a bunch of boring entries: John, Garett, Austin, Marty, Landon, Karl, Josh, 
9. Andrew came in an old car and then faked an accent that he claims is his alter ego. 
10. Brandon came in on a moped. I can’t get over his entire vibe. That hair is a mood.  
11. So the entrances start getting weird here: Kyle pulls out his underwear or something, Hunter appropriately given his name has a fish. Jeff has his camper. Marcus boring. Cody brings in a blow up doll. 
12. Justin and Christian come in with the sex puns.. Justin being a painter talks about strokin it, Christian wants her to rub one out or something about a genie. Quartney has a whole speech memorized with sex puns. 
13. Cat boy. Connor is dressed as a cat. The other men throw him shade. 
14. So after all the limo entrances (btw- we still have the dude in a box/present. I still don’t get this) Katie goes in and welcomes the men. I felt like her speech compared to others, namely Matt’s was very different. In fact, it made me realize how not compatible her and Matt were.
15. She mentions that the Bachelor process is a weird one (she believes in it; but it is weird). Is the Bachelor process super weird? 
16. Who stood out to you during the after party? We have Thomas who was super serious. Greg who was a bit bumbling but seems genuine. Tre is awesome but do they have a romantic connection? Justin, the painter, goes in for a kiss. Jeff, who totally has an Owen Wilson vibe, skeezes her out with his dirty camper. 
17. DRAMA. What happened between Arron and Connor? I did not get any of that but it left me not trusting Aaron. 
18. James is the box. Seriously what did he hope to accomplish with this. Also, I know people find him handsome but I think he looks suspicious. 
19. Who went home: Austin, Brandon, Gabriel (he had weird vibes man; he was the long hugger), Jeff, Landon, Marcus, and Marty. Were any of these surprises for you?
20. It seems like this season will get intense
