    WoHos!!

This week we look at two classic* movies featuring creepy dolls: DEEP RED from Italy & CHILD's PLAY (1988) from the US.

Was the Mac Effect (where Mac makes Mom like a movie less after the conversation) in effect, or was it the Mom Effect this time?

*Mac may disagree with this classification!

Next time, we discuss Coming of Age Films with THE INNOCENTS from Norway and THE CLOVEHITCH KILLER from the US.

    The Nightmare Before Christmas

    The Nightmare Before Christmas

Happy Halloween everyone!! Only 365 days until next Halloween!

Thank you Mayor. Today, the guys got together to discuss what could easily be described as one of the best Christmas movies? Wait..one of the best Halloween movies? Crap. While the guys debate over that, in this episode you'll also learn what their favorite song is other than "What's This?" and which one is their least favorite. Spoilers, they don't hate any of them. Is this movie too short? Did the studio make the right call in bringing in Chris Sarandon to help out Danny Elfman? And seriously...What's This?!

    The Nightmare Before Christmas

Hang on all ye ghouls and spirits, we're back for another SPOOOKY HALLOWWWEEEEEN SPECIAL with 1993's The Nightmare Before Christmas, based on a concept by Tim Burton, directed by Henry Selick, and starring Danny Elfman, Chris Sarandon and Catherine O'Hara.  Buckle up as we handle this duel holiday classic, but beware - Andy doesn't like musicals and this thing is full of tunes.  We just can't stop singing here at Medfield, and this one seems like just the ticket for this time of year.  Stay tuned until the very end for a proper holiday singalong with two of the podcast most-remarked-upon people, you won't want to miss it!

Fright Night (1985): "That '80s Rizz"

Fright Night (1985): "That '80s Rizz"

It’s giving Disturbia. It’s giving Scream. It’s giving Bram Stoker’s Dracula and The Lost Boys and Mom’s Got a Date with a Vampire. And it’s most definitely giving Vincent Price. Make no mistake, though — Fright Night (1985) is absolutely iconic in its own right. A creature feature where each and every vampire gets their own special set of teeth, this classic ‘80s flick is home to some great hallmarks of the era. On our latest episode of Spooky Tuesday, we’re breaking down Chris Sarandon’s famous monster movie as we talk about CLEAR references, hot couples, and incredible practical effects.

    The Princess Bride

    The Princess Bride

We're watching The Princess Bride this week. We know it's funny and there's kissing, but is it a rom com? Westley (Cary Elwes) is killed on the high seas before he can marry his true love, Buttercup (Robin Wright). Heartbroken and convinced Westley is dead, Buttercup agrees to marry a less-than-charming prince. However, before she can exchange marriage vows, Buttercup finds herself kidnapped and face-to-face with Westley's killer: the Dread Pirate Roberts. Gasp!

Stream this movie on Disney+ today, and let us know your thoughts on whether this movie is rom com!

    34. Child's Play (1988)

Do you like dolls? Do you hate dolls? Either way this is the episode for you!
It's Andy's 6th birthday and he's gotten the gift of his dreams, a Good Guys Doll! Little does he know, the notorious serial killer Charles Lee Ray aka Chucky has transferred his consciousness into the doll and continues his rein of terror in this 3ft body. It is now up to Andy, his mom Karen and Detective Mike Norris to put a stop to Chucky before it's too late.

    Episode 43 | Child's Play (1988)

🎁 With Chucky now being extremely popular once again (thanks in no small part to creator Don Mancini), what better time than now to transport back to the humble beginnings of one of our favorite horror franchises. In this week's episode, we will discuss everything in the OG Child's Play movie, from the (in our opinions) Oscar worthy performances of Brad Dourif and Chris Sarandon, to the brilliant and groundbreaking animatronics by Kevin Yagher that made a horror icon who he is today. We'll also chat about Andy (Alex Vincent) as a final boy, and our own memories of the toys that we obsessed about back in the day. And of course, we'll also choose which character we think was most deserving to die.

First time you saw the movie?

    Plot:

-I like the grandpa previews the whole movie explaining what was going to be in the movie

    -Robin Wright was hot.

    -Epic opening, love and loss.

-No way they didn't know how funny the name Humperdink was.

-Pretty epic beginning... Royalty, a wedding, kidnapping.

-Love the use of miniatures with the boats. It's very awesomely 80's.

-OK, so the plan is to kidnap the princess, take her to another land, kill her, and make the price think it was those people to start a war?

-Inigo Montoya is a very honorable guy, helping Wesley up the cliff

-When they jump off the rock while fighting, you can definitely tell there is a pad where they land.

-The fight is so over te top, but in a good way.

-Its amazing how fast this movie moves. Already defeated Montoya and Fezzik

-I love the rodents are clearly dudes in a rodent suit

-It's a very basic story, but classic and timeless.

-When Buttercup tells off the prince, calling him a coward, it's so overdramatic

-Billy Crystal is so perfect for Miracle Max

    -Wuv, twu wuv...

    -Good fight with Inigo

    The end

Top Five Trivia of the movie:

    5 trivia

    1. Elwes wasn't the first choice for Westley

In fact, Oscar winner, Colin Firth was originally in the running to play Cary Elwes.

    2. Wrestler André the Giant didn't actually do any heavy lifting

Following a major back surgery, Andre the Giant (André René Roussimoff) could not lift any heavy objects, instead, the seven foot and 540-pound actor used a stunt double for the majority of his more physical scenes.

    3. One of the final scenes did not make the final cut

Before it was cut from the film, Fred Savage originally walked over to his window, after his grandfather had left and sees Fezzik, Inigo, Westley, and Buttercup all on riding on their white horses.

    4. Patinkin was thinking of his late father when he delivered his most famous line

When Patinki uttered his Spanish vow, "My name is Inigo Montoya. You killed my father. Prepare to die," he was sadly thinking of his father who has died of cancer a few years prior to reading the script.

    5. Elwes filmed many scenes with a broken toe

Six weeks into production, Elwes had an accident in an ATV (which was used to transport Andre on set, because he didn't fit into the crew van), leaving him with a broken toe. Initially, Elwes tried to hide his injury from the director, but they ended up using trick photography to hide his limp in many of his scenes.

Episode 309: "The Nightmare Before Christmas" With The Kranks

It's that holiday time of year again. So to celebrate we're watching "The Nightmare Before Christmas." The movie that everyone seems to have a tattoo of. It's a good movie so I totally get it. We pair it with a pretty generic Italian Christmas Red, because "when in Rome" and all that.

    Metacritic Score: 82/100

Movie Sync Notes: We watched "The Nightmare Before Christmas" on Disney+. We star "The Nightmare Before Christmas" 6:29 into the pod and push play on part two 57:33 into the pod.

    Fright Night (1985)

    Fright Night (1985)

As Halloween approaches, what better way to celebrate than to watch one of the more underrated horror films of the 1980s.

This is the story of Charlie (William Ragsdale), a mild-mannered teenager living in suburbia who lives with his mother – one day, two strange new neighbors move in next door and one of them seems to have some VERY strange nocturnal behaviors.  One of those neighbors happens to be the mysterious Jerry Dandridge played by Chris Sarandon and Jerry appears to be….a vampire...

What follows is a scary, tense, and funny vampire tale featuring TOP-flight creature effects and a nice supporting performance by Roddy McDowall as the host of a late-night horror anthology  show known as ”Fright Night.”

Tom Holland (no not the one who plays Spider-Man) both wrote and directed this movie before making a splash just a couple of years later directing the first Child's Play.
