His parents, assuming Jesus is with the caravan, head back to Nazareth, only to realize he's missing. They return to Jerusalem and find him in the temple, astonishing the rabbis with his understanding. When questioned, Jesus replies that he is in his Father's house. Though his parents are confused, they return to Nazareth where Jesus continues to grow in wisdom and favor with God and people.

he Christian life is a lifelong process of taking off the old and putting on the new.  It’s this transforming process that leads us into becoming  people who reflect God’s holiness and goodness. 

Paul is calling us to put an end to actions and habits that aren’t pleasing to God, and to replace those with actions and habits that honor and reflect God.

Disciples of Jesus don’t just listen to Him; they do what He says.  Matthew 7:21:

“Not everyone who says to Me, “Lord, Lord!” will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of My Father in heaven.”  Following Jesus doesn’t simply  mean doing more good things.  It means abiding so closely in Him that our good deeds are simply evidence that God is working in our lives and in our hearts.

We are told in our culture that we are to seek a balanced life. This means that we seek a life that is pleasant and comfortable.  But perhaps that’s not God’s ultimate goal for our lives.  God is far less concerned with our comfort as He is with our growth.

When we are not living with our minds controlled by the Spirit, we fall into sin.  All of us have sinned, and all of us will continue to sin on this side of eternity.  The Bible clearly states that God forgives our sins,  but we often struggle to live in the  reality of that forgiveness.  The practice of confession is necessary to our spiritual growth - not because God needs it; our forgiveness isn’t given because of our confession.  But rather, confession will help us to become the changed and transformed people we long to be.
