Elizabeth Neumann and Geoff Duncan: Republican Voters Against Trump

Elizabeth Neumann and Geoff Duncan: Republican Voters Against Trump
Two conservatives describe their break with Trump. Former DHS official Elizabeth Neumann saw both the mafia culture up close and Trump's disinterest in doing the work of being president. He also exploits the rising extremism in the evangelical church. And former Georgia Lt. Gov. Geoff Duncan says he's voting for Biden, and tells Tim Miller that "doing the right thing will never be the wrong thing."

    show notes:

Elizabeth's new book, "Kingdom of Rage: The Rise Of Christian Extremism And The Path Back to Peace.”
    Geoff's book, "GOP 2.0"

Trump's 2nd Term: Military in the Streets, Mike Johnson in the Sheets

Trump's 2nd Term: Military in the Streets, Mike Johnson in the Sheets

Trump and his allies make it clear that a second term would be much more extreme than the first, from Christian nationalists running the White House to military raids and internment camps. The Alabama Supreme Court's ruling that stopped IVF in the state could be a sign of things to come. Nikki Haley says she plans to stay in the race no matter what happens in Saturday’s South Carolina primary and Joe Biden provides student debt relief to another 150,000 Americans. Finally, Wisconsin Democratic Party Chair Ben Wikler joins to talk about the new legislative maps that have finally ended one of the worst gerrymanders in the country.

Ep 922 | The Very Scary Rise of Christofascism

Ep 922 | The Very Scary Rise of Christofascism
Today we're looking again at the story of a Texas mother who is fighting to abort her child, who was diagnosed with a rare chromosomal disorder that is often, though not always, fatal. The debate over this story has blown up, and we give a recap but also double down on the fact that we should not have empathy for this woman's decision to kill her child. Then we take another look at Rob Reiner's documentary on Christian nationalism and the "threat" we face from it. We explain why there is simply no comparison between the looming threat of the progressive agenda versus the few people who have extreme "Christian nationalist" views. Then, Producer Bri joins to talk Christmas music hot takes. --- Timecodes: (02:20) Update on Texas mother seeking abortion (18:09) Jack Phillips & Leftist activists (23:57) Christian nationalism documentary (36:57) "Christian nationalism" example (42:00) What's behind the documentary? Ep 793 | An Atheist & a Christian Define Christian Nationalism | Guest: James Lindsay

Ep 793 | An Atheist & a Christian Define Christian Nationalism | Guest: James Lindsay
Today we're joined again by our friend James Lindsay, founder of New Discourses, to discuss Christian nationalism. We first look at how prominent Christian figures define Christian nationalism and how it's easy for conservative Christians to accept a definition of Christian nationalism that can result in unwarranted control over all Christians. Where is the line between morality shaped by a biblical worldview and Christian nationalism, and who decides which worldview shapes policy? We debate a bit where right and wrong and the basis of law come from, then discuss James' quote-tweet of Allie's Nashville shooting take and why he doesn't disagree with her, he's just weary of the Left's trap to fragment the population. We share the truth behind the trans movement and the false omniscience necessary for that worldview. --- Timecodes: (01:05) Definitions & traps of Christian nationalism (24:13) Morality vs. Christian nationalism (37:04) Reformers (39:20) James quote tweets Allie about Nashville shooting (49:55) Trans movement is the inverse of Christianity (57:30) The body and authenticity/autonomy --- Today's Sponsors: Good Ranchers — get FREE bacon, great meat, a secure price, and a bonus of $20 OFF today at GoodRanchers.com – make sure to use code 'ALLIE' when you subscribe. Christian Nationalism's Foothold In American Politics

Christian Nationalism's Foothold In American Politics
A survey conducted by the Public Religion Research Institute and the Brookings Institution found that found more than half of Republicans believe the US should be a strictly Christian nation, adhering to the ideals of Christian nationalism or sympathizing with those views. While this remains a minority opinion nationwide, the study also found correlations between people who hold Christian nationalist views and Anti-Black, anti-immigrant, anti-Semitic, anti-Muslim, and patriarchal views.
