Episode 53: Doreen Virtue, Deceived No More (New Age)

Doreen Virtue grew up in Christian Science, which opened the door to the occult.

She became the top author in New Age. Her angel worship tarot cards were a huge success and people flocked to her Youtube channel for New Age false wisdom. Not only did she have sold out standing-room only events, but stars were coming to her palatial Hawaii ranch to get readings from her.

"So much deception. It was only through God's grace and mercy that my eyes were opened."

But open they did! One fateful day Doreen was listening to Truth for Life from Alistair Begg as he described a false teacher. "It was the first time I remember consciously the Holy Spirit convicting me." She left New Age behind and was deceived no more, the name of her book.

After becoming a believer, Doreen went to seminary, getting a Master's Degree in Biblical and Theological Studies from Western Seminary. Hear her sound advice on spotting the occult. And learn why New Age and Christianity could never blend.

The Cross Examiner Podcast S01E07 - Faith Healing (Part 3) History Of Child Abuse And Rights

The Cross Examiner Podcast S01E07 - Faith Healing (Part 3) History Of Child Abuse And Rights

I review the history of child abuse, both religious-based abuse as well as secular abuse.  Starting with the disturbing global practice of “foundation sacrifices” and running through modern times, I describe how the rights of children have not improved that much since before the United States was formed with respect to being protected from their parents’ religious-based medical neglect (aka "Faith Healing".)  I discuss why politicians refused to help these children and urge attorneys to seek out cases where we can rescue these children and start to fix the damage done by notorious Christian Scientists in the Nixon administration.

Ep. 246 - From a Rock Bottom To Finding Your Purpose with Lewis Howes

Ep. 246 - From a Rock Bottom To Finding Your Purpose with Lewis Howes

Lewis Howes was an awkward kid born in a small town in Ohio. He didn’t grow up with many friends, and he, like most of us, was faced with some pretty challenging family dynamics. So how did he become the New York Times best-selling author, keynote speaker, industry-leading show host, and former pro-athlete we know today? You’ll just have to listen to find out. And we’ll tell you what– this story is nothing short of magical. If you’ve ever wondered “What’s the point of a rock bottom?” or “how the hell do I find my purpose?” or “what does successful inner child work actually feel and look like?”, then this episode is for you. Lacy and Lewis go deeply and vulnerably into Lewis’ healing journey– physically, emotionally, and mentally. They talk masculinity, blindspots, spontaneous healing, purpose, reparenting, and how navigating professional, emotional and financial setbacks is what ultimately shapes you into your most magnetic, authentic version of self. It’s not every day that we get to bring on such an aligned, authentic, powerful male voice to amplify for the community, so this episode is pretty special.

Erik Vance — The Drugs Inside Your Head

Erik Vance — The Drugs Inside Your Head

Science writer and reporter Erik Vance says today’s brain scientists are like astronomers of old: They’ve unsettled humanity’s sense of itself by redrawing our picture of the cosmos within our own heads. Vance has investigated the healing power of stories and the “theater of medicine” (white coats included). It turns out that the things that make us feel better are often more closely connected to what we believe and fear than to the efficacy of some treatments. In fact, most drugs that go to trial can’t beat what we’ve dismissively called the “placebo effect,” which is actually nothing less than an unleashing of the brain’s superpowers.

Erik Vance is a Pulitzer Center grantee and the author of “Suggestible You: The Curious Science of Your Brain's Ability to Deceive, Transform, and Heal.” His work has appeared in several publications, including the “New York Times,” “Harper’s Magazine,” “Scientific American,” and “National Geographic.“

    049 Unearthing Alternative Healing

If you get sick you go to the doctor, maybe take a medication over the counter to help you feel better, but there are some who uses other methods. Some use the energy provided to them from the universe to heal themselves and those around them.  Some use crystals to cleans their bodies of impurities. Other use Yoga as a method of keeping the body balanced and healthy.  Then others use their faith in a higher power to keep them safe and healthy.  In this episode we dig into a little bit of it all.
