Recovering Native Narratives and Data with Abigail Echo-Hawk

Recovering Native Narratives and Data with Abigail Echo-Hawk

The murder rate for native women and girls living on reservations in the U.S. is ten times higher than the national average for women, according to the Urban Indian Health Institute. Meanwhile, the U.S. Department of Justice’s federal missing person database only logs a fraction of those cases. Our guest this week, who has investigated cases for indigenous girls from nine months old to women in their eighties, points out that this is part of a broader trend of data erasure. Abigail Echo-Hawk is the director of the Urban Indian Health Institute, which focuses on research and decolonizing data for urban American Indian and Alaska Native communities. She also serves as executive vice president of the Seattle Indian Health Board and is an enrolled citizen of the Pawnee Nation of Oklahoma. She joins WITHpod to discuss recovering the true story of her people prior to and post the Columbus encounter, the importance of rethinking misconceptions, health disparities in indigenous and Alaska native communities,  and the work that lies ahead to break down feelings of “invisibility.”

S4E53 Martyn Whittock: The Vikings from Leif Eriksson to the Q-Shamon (J6)

S4E53 Martyn Whittock: The Vikings from Leif Eriksson to the Q-Shamon (J6)

Historian and prolific author Martyn Whittock re-joins Ken to discuss his soon-to-be-released (November 7, 2023) book,  American Vikings - How the Norse Sailed into the Lands and Imaginations of America from his study in the U.K. Martyn has appeared several times on the podcast - with conversations about the use and misuse of eschatology throughout history, the passing of Queen Elizabeth, the monarchy in Great Britain, the coronation of King Charles and the implications of a State Church (in contrast to separation of church and state in the USA). Martyn has written extensively about medieval history in Europe, but his interest was peaked as the events unfolded at the US Capitol on January 6, 2021. A most memorable character, Jake Chansley, AKA the Q-Shaman captured on camera at the podium of the inner sanctum, barechested, revealing tattoos and other symbols of Viking mythology. Martyn takes us back a thousand years (1021 C.E.) for an exploration of the Nordic saga and myth, the landing of the Vikings on this continent hundreds of years before Christopher Columbus, separating fact and fiction of that early occupation of what became known as America and finally the ways in which the Viking "deep story" penetrates the imagination of Americans. Marvel has tapped into the Viking world (the God of Thunder, Thor) in comic books and superhero cinema. That story has been hijacked and utilized as inspiration for the Alt-Right, white supremacy, and manifest destiny, culminating in the insurrection of January 2021, symbolized by the memorable character, the Q-Shaman, sentenced to nearly four years in prison. This episode is on the Powerful Violet Flame Meditation which begins at 13 minutes into the episode.  For the first 13 minutes, Jill explains the significance of the Violet Flame and St. Germain.

Also called the “Flame of Transmutation,” the “Flame of Mercy,” the “Flame of Freedom,” and the “Flame of Forgiveness,” the Violet Flame is a sacred fire that transforms and purifies negative “karma” or blockages.

The violet flame is a powerful symbol and form of imagery that can be used as a catalyst for our spiritual journeys. The reason for this is that it creates the space necessary for healing any soul blockages.

St. Germain is an ascended Master. Ascended Masters are spiritual beings or guides who have ascended to the Higher Dimensions to assist Humanity’s evolution from the higher spheres or lokas. They have incarnated on earth previously and now exist in higher realms to help humans. Jesus Christ, Buddha and Krishna are all considered ascended Masters. According to Theosophy and other esoteric spiritual teachings, such as those taught by the late Elizabeth Clare Prophet, there are seven Ascended Masters responsible for the Seven Rays of Evolution, or the Seven Paths to God. According to Elizabeth Clare Prophet “The Seven Color rays are the natural division of the pure white light emanating from the heart of God as it descends through the prism of manifestation. The Seven Rays present seven paths to individual or personal spiritual evolution.  Seven masters have mastered identity by walking these paths.  These seven masters are called the Chohans of the rays, which mean lord of the rays.  Chohan  is a Sanskrit term for lord.

ST. GERMAIN, the Chohan of the 7th Ray, is the Ascended Master of the Aquarian Age. 7th Ray rules freedom, mercy transmutation and ritual.  The pulsations of the violet flame can be felt from his retreat of the House of Rakocsy and Transylvania and from the Cave of Symbols in the United States.

St. Germain had many Earthly incarnations including Merlin, the famed magician of Arthurian times in the 5th century, Roger Bacon, Christopher Columbus and Francis Bacon. He was best known as the“le Comte de Saint Germain,” a miraculous gentleman who dazzled the courts of 18th and 19th century Europe, where they called him “The Wonderman.” In that incarnation he was an alchemist, scholar, linguist, poet, musician, and diplomat admired throughout the courts of Europe.

In her book, Saint Germain: Mystery of the Violet Flame, Elizabeth Claire Prophet gives this message from St. Germain:

"Allow for the Violet Flame that I have released this night to move through your bodies, to transmute all

HILF 08: The Spice Trade with Wayne Wilderson

HILF 08: The Spice Trade with Wayne Wilderson

Welcome to a particularly delicious romp through the history of the Spice trade with my guest, 'television's own' Wayne Wilderson. His IMDB Credits read like a CVS receipt and you'll find he is as effortless on the microphone as he is on camera.

00:04:55 - After telling you a little bit about where we are (and why I'm wearing my daughter's Hello Kitty Headphones) Wayne tells us a little bit about when he came to Hollywood and some of his favorite jobs... and there have been so many. Among his gigs was a 12-year run as the purple grapes in the Fruit of the Loom campaign

00:07:52 - Wayne and Dawn get into the HILF.

00:08:51 - Dawn Lays out her sources and research:

00:11:10 - The plan for this episode is to cover not only the history of cinnamon and the other spices that originated in the same time and place - but also why humanity has been so intrigued by them for so long.

    00:14:40 - Let's fuck.

00:16:23 - Columbus sails the ocean blue in search of India  and her elusive spices and accidentally bumps into the Bahamas. He has a bad reputation now, but it wasn't much better in his lifetime on account of the total lack of familiar spices in the 'New World.'

00:20:25 - The Pope, in an effort to cool tensions between Spain and Portugal, divides the world between them. The Treaty of Tordesillas established that everything 'non-christian' discovered West belonged to Spain and everything East belonged to Portugal. And thus began the race to see how far East was West and who - in the end - would claim the Spice Islands.

00:21:20 - The Portuguese sailor, Vasco da Gama sets sail South around the Cape of Good Hope and successfully crosses the Indian ocean to arrive in Calcut, India. It's an extraordinary encounter.

00:25:58 - The Portuguese in an effort to establish domination over the islands, leave Francisco Serrao as a representative to await their return. He has a string of wild adventures, eventually becoming BFF's and advisor to an Island sultan. He marries and never returns to Portugal... He does however, write a few letters to a guy named Ferdinand Magellan.

00:23:40 - Magellan sets sail on his history-making journey. The books say he circumnavigated the globe, but the details will reveal he - in fact died in the Philippines - and his exhausted, scurvy-laden crew had to hump one leaking boat back to Spain on their own. But, the Spanish still made a profit on the journey so...

00:32:18 - The Dutch arrive in the Spice Islands and after pushing the Portuguese and the English out - prove to be brutal overlords.

...But this is not the beginning of the story. It can't be. There was a love and value placed on Spice that inspired all of this exploration and exploitation. In Part II, we take the road even further up the annals of history to the ancients.

    PART II

    00:35:33 - Welcome back!

00:36:28 - The first known consumer of spice in history did not eat it.  It was Ramses II and he had it shoved up his nose during his mummification.

00:38:45 - The first known myth about cinnamon predated Ramses II - it is the story of the Phoenix who is is resurrected from its ashes. Ashes that were, in the original legend, mixed with cinnamon.

00:40:00 - The Roman's loved spice too much? It is argued that it at least contributed to the Fall the empire. It was because their growing obsession with exotic spices sent a wave of gold East; while what they got in return was primarily burned, and if eaten, supplied no nutritional value.

00:41:43 - When the later European Christians dominated, they at first rejected spices as a uniquely pagan tradition. In later centuries, however, they embraced them and in much the same way, and with much the same results as the Romans.

00:45:18 - Dawn covers the many varied uses and applications for spices over the centuries. From medicine, to ritual, to sex aide.

00:50:00 - Constantine the Great was a sex expert - he literally wrote the book on it - and there are some gems.

00:52:00 - It turns out, however, our timeless obsession with spice - cinnamon in particular - is justified! Dr. Alan R. Hirsch, director of the Smell and Taste Treatment and Research Foundation in Chicago has proven it!

00:54:00 - The various spices pursued during the The Spice Trade fit nicely with the flawed medical wisdom of the time - that of The 4 Humors. It hinged on the idea that the health of a human being was tied to it's balance among being Hot, Cold, Wet and Dry. They were fairly arbitrary delineations that doctors - with both good and bad intensions - exploited for centuries.

00:56:30 - The end of the age, not too surprisingly, coincided with the beginning of one. The French one-armed thief, Peter Poivre, successfully stole cloves from Indonesia and successfully replanted them in France. It was 1776 and nobody cared anymore.

01:00:30 - One might be tempted to say that we as humanity have moved on from the silly ancient obsession with spices - and yet they are key ingredients in both Coca-cola and the top fragrance, Obsession by Calvin Klein... So have we?

    Thanks, as ever, for listening!

We are enjoying an ever-increasing listenership and are so grateful for your ears... But I have NO IDEA who reads these things so if that is you - please introduce yourself.  There are lots of ways to do it - Instagram, Facebook or Email [hilfpodcast@gmail.com].

Bourbon Banter 11.0 - Big Pharma Boot Licking

Merck has come out with a new miracle drug to keep you from dying of Covid!! Woohoo?!

Hold the phone. Do we really need a new miracle drug? Maybe. But was there another promising generic drug that showed promise and never really researched because it wouldn't be profitable? Let's talk about how much of this new drug the federal government has already committed to BUYING after PAYING for the research of the drug in the first place. And how much is the government paying for said drug? You won't even be able to guess. Your money is not only being spent twice on the same drug, but the price gouging is something to behold.

The debt ceiling "crisis" has been solved. At least until December. How did congress pull off this massive feat of zero consequence and idiotic fear mongering? Such heroes, they are!!

Monday was Indigenous People's Day (Formerly known as Columbus Day). Which brings us to our RED PILL vs BLUE PILL segment of the show! Are the "Libs" erasing history, or are the "White Supremacists" condoning the murder of brown people? It's really neither, but its' more fun to put it in mainstream terms.

The Vatican protects pedophiles...and because of their sovereignty, it's totally okay!! Nothing to see here.

California is mandating a gender neutral toy aisle in big box stores. The attempts to distract us from the real issues are getting more and more obvious each and every day.
