A Brief History of Modern Movements

How did we get here? That's a pretty big existential question, but in this episode we're talking with Warrick Farah about how we got to the place in history where we are talking about and pursuing the multiplication of churches and disciples.

"But the professor in that course said, 'What if we could just have a vision and just do what the Bible says, not add anything to it, not take anything away from it? No presuppositions of what we think it says, just simply obey the scriptures. And that captured me."

"And I began to be plagued by the idea that I didn't really think we were seeing disciples being made. I thought we were doing a really good job of seeing people join the church. Come to know Christ, but not really walking in the fullness of what that meant. Not fully following the commands to go and make disciples. To teach, to baptize, to hold them accountable in a loving way. And that just began to bother me."

Ep. 13 Mary Ho - Aligning and Inspiring Ethnically and Geographically Diverse Teams

Ep. 13 Mary Ho - Aligning and Inspiring Ethnically and Geographically Diverse Teams

In this episode, Mary Ho talks about leading All Nations International and what it takes to lead ethnically and geographically diverse teams. Her experience growing up in different nations, prepared her for work in the nations.

In the early 1990s, God began birthing a heart for the poor and for the nations in John and Mary Ho, while a young married couple working for World Vision in Taiwan.  Later in Hong Kong, they were greatly impacted by being a part of the churches that grew out of Jackie Pullinger’s ministry.  Such experience and passion led to a steamless transition into leadership roles years later with the work started by Floyd and Sally McClung in the USA.

Named in 2015 and commissioned in 2016, Dr. Mary Ho became the International Executive Leader of All Nations International (allnations.international), a global Christian missions organization.  In this current role, Dr. Ho provides leadership and direction for All Nations which has grown to four hubs and 400 cross-cultural workers in more than 40 countries.

Prior to this role, Dr. Ho served as the North America Executive Director of the All Nations’ hub in Kansas City, MO.  Under her leadership All Nations has since multiplied with two additional hubs, one in Hamburg, Germany, and another in Kampala, Uganda.  Her vision is to see All Nations establish additional hubs in other gateway cities worldwide for the mobilization of both cross-cultural and near-cultural workers.  Dr. Ho is passionate about finishing the Great Commission in this generation and longs to see the love of God shared among the remaining untouched gospel frontiers.

Born in Taiwan and raised on four continents, Dr. Ho, has lived in Taiwan, the Philippines, the Kingdom of eSwatini (formerly Swaziland), New Zealand, Hong Kong, and the U.S.

    David Garrison on Movement Leaders

    David Garrison on Movement Leaders

David Garrison, Executive Director of Global Gates and author of Church Planting Movements, chats with Jeff Sundell recognizing and developing movement leaders.

    Show Notes:

Here are the twelve characteristics of Movement Leaders that David gives.

They have a Magnificent Obsession: Movement leaders "see it before they see it."

They have a "My People syndrome": They adopt an unreached people group as their own people.

They have a WIGTake (What's It Gonna Take?) worldview rather than a "What am I good at?" way of thinking.

They are lateral thinkers: They learn from failures and keep seeking another way to solve problems.

They never take no for an answer when it comes to reaching their people for Jesus.

Ruthless evaluation: The strategy and tactics change as they pursue the vision. They set aside things that don't work.

They recognize this is God's work, not their work. They see themselves as the ant that rides the elephant across a river.

They know how the story ends. The promise of Revelation 5:9 is true.

It's not about them. It's about God's glory and seeing Christlikeness multiply among unreached people.

God can hit straight with a crooked sticked. Movement leaders don't fall out of heaven, but rise up out of hell. Things can be messy. God will work in unexpected ways.

This is about the whole body of Christ fulfilling the great commission, not just one church or denomination. Look for super-spreaders scattered throughout the body of Christ.

God never places an order that he doesn't pay for. This isn't a fools errand. We are joining God in his work.
