    A Divine Unsettling

    A Divine Unsettling

In March 2021, True Vine Christian Fellowship and Coast Hills Community Church voted unanimously to join together and form Awaken Church in McMinnville, Oregon.  Chanda Koesel speaks about the six-month journey of becoming one church, pointing out the parallels found in the account of Elijah. She asks, "Are we willing to do what Elijah did to get what Elijah got?"

Healing from spiritual trauma with Ginny Barker

Healing from spiritual trauma with Ginny Barker

Ginny Barker is one of those people you can count on to keep it real, and because of that I have loved her from the moment I met her. She was a part of the church plant I helped start in Asheville, North Carolina. We went through a lot of church trauma together, and this conversation is about all of that. Spiritual trauma, dark night of the soul, narcissism in spiritual leadership, and so much more. If this topic touches you personally, I think you can brace yourself for some lightbulb moments, and stick around to the end, because we talk about how to heal as individuals, and whether a healthy church community is even a thing. As you hear Ginny’s story, may you find healing, hope, and maybe even a few giggles.

She’s also an avid reader, so there’s an extensive book list of her recommendations that you’ll hear her cite throughout, and most of which are included here:

Just a little introduction of myself and my background in launching epikos church in Milwaukee, WI in 2005.  What started in our living room grew to over 2,000 people on 3 campuses.  The format of this podcast will be very simple answering of questions that I've heard many times in coaching church planters AND your opportunity to submit your questions on www.churchplantersask.com

    "We're a small church, so..." - Episode 11

    "We're a small church, so..." - Episode 11

"We're a small church, so we don't have time to improve."

On a recent phone call with a pastor, this is a statement we heard.

And we regularly hear a lot of pastors of smaller churches express similar sentiments as they feel like the day-to-day of ministry dominates their schedule.

But here's the reality: If you feel like you don't have enough time for what's most important, it's not because of your church's size. It's because of your church's structure.

Join our team this week on the podcast for a conversation on 5 reasons churches get to a place in ministry where they can honestly say, "We don't have time to improve."

Check out this episode's show notes.

Austin's Social Media Game: We want to get to know you better! We're starting a new tradition this week at the start of our episodes of answering one random question. But we need your participation: So this week, send us your answer (on Twitter, Facebook, or LinkedIn) to the questions, "If you had to get rid of one fast food restaurant because it's the worst, what would you choose? And if you had to get rid of all fast food restaurants except for one because it's the best, which one would you choose?"

Influence, Attendance, and... Woodstock? (w/ Karl Vaters) - Episode 5

Influence, Attendance, and... Woodstock? (w/ Karl Vaters) - Episode 5

There's been a lot of talk in church leadership surrounding the ideas of influence, engagement, attendance, and more. So how should we actually measure success in our church? (Or should we at all?)

Join us for this conversation with Karl Vaters, a widely-respected voice for pastors in smaller churches. If you already follow Karl, you know his passion for the Church is unmistakable and the practicality of his ideas is refreshing.

And, of course, our favorite quote from the conversation is this: "If you minister to seniors, remember these four words: Grandma went to Woodstock." -- It may sound crazy at first, but take a listen to uncover why those four words truly are important.

Want to take a look at some conversation takeaways and see any resources mentioned during the conversation? Check out this episode's show notes.
