RECAP EPISODE: The Insufferable Ian Happ Will Lead the Cubs to GLORY!!!!
In the new recap episode of Jagbags, Beave brings up Ian Happ as a future Hall of Famer, and Len responds forcefully. We talk the NBA playoffs, and Len contacts lawyers in connection with Luka Doncic's prolonged absence from the playoffs. We talk the Nets/Celtics series in particular, which seems to be the most evenly matched series of the playoffs to date. Len recommends the new Eddie Vedder solo album and the new Spoon album. And Beave submerges you in his Rolling Stone Top 500 with reviews of George Harrison, Drake, Aerosmith, and MOBB DEEP. Tune in right now!

    Vulgarity, Desperation, and Shots

    Vulgarity, Desperation, and Shots

Fueled by local distilleries and breweries, Patti and the Pottymouth present their new boyfriend selections from the Rangers and the Pirates, with a bonus of Pottymouth sharing her research strategy tips (hint: it involves googling the word “scandal”). Please welcome Adolis Garcia (made us say “ARod”), Corey Seager (also made us say “ARod”), Ke’Bryan Hayes (we want to have a beer with his dad), and Roberto Pérez (we want to have a beer with his mom). We propose a science project involving the rate at which Clint Frazier’s hair grows. The Hall of Fame  makes us happy with their new class from the “Early Baseball” and “Golden Days” Era, especially Minnie Miñoso.

The lockout means the only news is Minor League news - contracts for Dee Gordon-Strange and others, the minor league Rule 5 draft, and Endeavor buying up teams and forcing Patti to say the phrase “holding company”  in a baseball podcast. The Fenway Sports Group joins us in crosstraining with hockey by putting in a bid to buy the Pittsburgh Penguins. Yasiel Puig signs to play in the Korean league. The LIDOM regular season winds up this week and gets us the bonus vocabulary phrase “fi fla.” Idelmaro Vargas is tearing it up in LVBP, which goes until 12/16.

We say aguardiente, professional bull riding, and fluffy haired folk.

    Undisclosed Sums of Money

    Undisclosed Sums of Money

There are two Guardian teams in town, and no one is saying but one of them may be a fairly wealthy roller derby team. Yasiel Puig settled a civil suit to make sexual assault go away, dropped Rachel Luba, earned Defender of the Year in LMB, and wants back into MLB. We are thrilled that MLB teams will now provide housing for minor league players. Check that box and move on to fair pay. Clint Frazier is DFA’d which allows us to explain making room on the 40 man roster. The Mets gain a GM but lose an ace.

The annual Girls Breakthrough Series featured Bianca Smith, Veronica Alvarez, and maybe a path to college ball. Franmil Reyes won’t be playing with Pujols in LIDOM after all, but there’s still plenty of familiar faces. In the LVBP, recently DFA’d Willians Astudillo sucker-punches a pitcher, the Panda goes back to where it all began, and Ildemaro Vargas’ 4 RBI game lets Pottymouth teach us remolcadas as this week’s vocabulary word. (The other option is a little too racy for prom). The CPBL brings us Lion Elephant Battles. We say Political Opinions Above Replacement, tofurky, and Bob Dole.

    Finding Jesus in Miami

    Finding Jesus in Miami

We talk way more Jesus than usual, as we select both veteran (“We Believe in Jesus”) Jesús Aguilar and batting left because of David Ortiz prospect Jesús Sánchez as our Marlin’s boyfriends. Kim Ng was a contender for Marlins boyfriend but we have stupid rules. Over at the Yankees, both Pottymouth and Patti go for guys that are quietly generous in their birthplaces and save the noise for the field. Pottymouth profiles Colombian Gio Urshela, and Patti tells you of mask-wearing redhead Clint Frazier.

Women sports journalists speak out about abusive treatment by Mickey Calloway, spanning three teams and at least five years.  The Angels fired him and investigations are underway.  Did the Jared Porter issue open the floodgates?  Are women feeling safer about going public?  Stay tuned.  Trevor Bauer gets the record-setting deal of his dreams, and we consider the possibility of paintball to the nuts. We wish our patron saint, Sean Doolittle, well as he is off to work his magic in Cincinnati. The Dominican Republic’s Águilas Cibaeñas win the Serie del Caribe, and the NWHL folds its season due to COVID, ripping away our chance to see women’s hockey on national TV, and allowing us to talk shady science because we’ve been drinking.

Wash your hands, wear your masks, watch your distance, get your vaccine as soon as you can, and fight the man. Indians trade rumors: Previewing Monday's trade deadline

Indians trade rumors: Previewing Monday's trade deadline

This week on the Leading Off podcast, we talk the Cleveland Indians and the trade deadline.

This year seems like many others. The Indians are off to a strong start thanks largely to excellent starting pitching, of which they have a surplus. But their offense has often let them down, especially in the outfield.

Indians beat reporter Ryan Lewis explains what could happen on Monday's trade deadline for the Indians and what they might be considering. Could a Clint Frazier reunion be in the works?

Ryan also answers a dumb question: Who has crazier stats to start the season, Shane Bieber or James Karinchak?

Swanson, Heyward rising; AL East upside arms

Matt Stroup, Chris Crawford and George Bissell run through a wide range of fantasy baseball topics, including early surges from Dansby Swanson, Jason Heyward and Clint Frazier, all on the rise as April waiver wire pickups. Plus, a promising start for Blue Jays right-hander Trent Thornton, and the mostly sunny outlook for Tyler Glasnow and Yonny Chirinos in Tampa. We also hunt, somewhat desperately, for saves. All that and much more on this episode, including some alarming early signs for Zack Wheeler.
