Metallische Drums, sphärische Gitarren, verträumter Gesang: Heute sprechen Dennis & Jonas über das Dream Pop-Trio COCTEAU TWINS – und ihre unterschätzte, aber wegweisende EP THE SPANGLE MAKER. (Eine von Jonassens Lieblingsplatten.) In den 80ern hoben die drei Zwillinge nicht nur den Dream Pop aus der Reverb-Taufe; sie hinterließen auch jene Fußstapfen, die die Shoegaze-Pioniere später anstarrten. Die Devise von Gitarrist Robin Guthrie: Es ist egal, was gespielt wird, wichtig ist, wie man spielt. So wenig Noten wie möglich, so viel Klangexperiment wie nur geht. Kein Knopf an der Studiokonsole bleibt ungedreht, um den bunten Klangteppich zu weben, in den jeder Cocteau Twins-Song eingebettet ist. Heraus kommt ein unverkennbarer mystischer und melancholischer Sound. Mitten in der Effekt-Suppe schwimmt schwerelos die engelsgleiche Stimme von Liz Fraser. Von ihren dadaistischen Texten versteht man kein Wort, aber das ist egal – man fühlt jede Unze Gefühl, die sie in ihre Stimme legt. Verspielt fasst sie Empfindungen in Worte, für die es keine Worte gibt und schafft dabei ihre ganz eigene Sprache. Die Melodien und Klänge der Twins umspielen das Herz der Hörers mit einer Wärme wie Glühwein im kältesten Winter. In der Brust scheppern die Drums mechanisch im Takt des Herzschlags vor sich hin. Wer sich jetzt fragt, was das für eine Band sein soll, die so magische Klänge heraufbeschwört, der sollte dranbleiben und diese Folge PLATTENBAU wie immer bei maximaler Lautstärke hören.
