App Academy Coding Bootcamp Review (Should You Go There in 2022?)

App Academy Coding Bootcamp Review (Should You Go There in 2022?)

I invited on 3 recent graduates of App Academy to share their experiences. These types of review episodes are aimed at getting past the marketing fluff of each coding bootcamp, and diving into real, authentic experiences from 3 real graduates. I was completely wrong about App Academy. This ended up being one hell of a conversation. Enjoy!

    Scrimba Review (Frontend Career Path)

    Scrimba Review (Frontend Career Path)

In this web development podcast episode, I invited on 3 graduates to review Scrimba - a front end focused educational platform for aspiring web developers. We dove into opinions about the curriculum, instructors, and projects. They even shared who they feel like this program IS for and IS NOT for. If you're considering Scrimba, it's definitely worth listening to what they had to say about it. Enjoy!

How Patrick FINALLY Got His First Developer Position

How Patrick FINALLY Got His First Developer Position

After graduating a coding bootcamp, it took Patrick 8 frustrating months to finally get his first developer position. He shared his whole job search journey. We dove into his day to day; job search strategy - what worked and what didn't; his frustrating interview experiences; and what finally helped him stand out from the rest of the applicants to FINALLY get his first developer position. Congrats Patrick! Can you relate to his frustrations?

What REALLY Happens When Aspiring Developers Lie on Their Resume

What REALLY Happens When Aspiring Developers Lie on Their Resume

There's SO much conflicting advice out there around how to best and accurately represent your skills and projects as a junior developer. I brought on an old boss of mine who lost count of the number of resumes he's reviewed and software engineers that he's hired. Needless to say, he's been in the game for a while. I can attest that Scott has always looked out for software engineers that have crossed his path, but he's also very honest. Without knowing his views around the topic before I invited him on, because of his honesty, I thought he'd be a great hiring manager to answer questions about how to best represent yourself as an aspiring software engineer. Enjoy!

Turing School of Software & Design Review

Turing School of Software & Design Review

I invited 3 graduates on to review Turing, a software engineering program. These reviews are honest, no-BS, reviews meant to get past the marketing that each coding school puts out there. All 3 went through the front end track and shared the pros and cons. 8 months is a certainly a long time for a full-time immersive program and the students' mental health was certainly one of my concerns. We covered all of it. Hopefully this helps you on your journey.

    Rithm School Coding Bootcamp Review

    Rithm School Coding Bootcamp Review

I invited 3 graduates on to review the coding bootcamp, Rithm School. These reviews are honest, no-BS, reviews meant to get past the marketing that each coding bootcamp puts out there. We dove into the pros and cons of the program, and as always, I share my unfiltered opinion as I hear more about their experiences. Is the real world project they advertise as good as they say? Find out for yourself in this episode. Enjoy!

Launch School Review (Core and Capstone)

Launch School Review (Core and Capstone)

I invited on 3 graduates from Launch School. 2 of them went through the core program, and 1 of them also went through the capstone program. So, we got a variety of experiences. It was really interesting to hear that the curriculum was entirely text based; frameworks weren't taught in the core program; and that the capstone program has a 100% job placement rate (or does it?). You'll hear me challenging a few claims in this episode, but judge what's said for yourselves. There's even a call to action deep in the episode if you listen/watch the whole episode. Let me know what you think.

Vamos a verlas juntos.

#50 Saron Yitbarek, founder of CodeNewbie, celebrates the power of code and communities

Saron took us from the early years of career as a journalist, to her first coding steps. She explained us in details how her bootcamp and apprenticeship programs took her from a code newbie to a solid developer and avid learner. Saron explained us why she created the CodeNewbie community and how it slowly but surely evolved into her current business. We devised on the many faces of the CodeNewbie community, podcasts and conferences. Saron finally gave us the advice to focus and do things "one goal at a time".

Saron Yitbarek is the CEO and founder of CodeNewbie, the most supportive community of programmers and people learning to code. She's also a developer, speaker and host of multiple podcaster among which the BaseCS Podcast, the Command_Line Heroes podcast and of course the CodeNewbie Podcast.
