Episode 26: BONUS - The Iconic History of the Cape Cod Coliseum (6-24-2021)

Episode 26: BONUS - The Iconic History of the Cape Cod Coliseum (6-24-2021)

The history of the iconic supernova that was the Cape Cod Coliseum is covered in depth on a special Bonus episode of the podcast.
Episode 26 covers the flash in the pan that was the Coliseum beginning with its inception as mainly a hockey rink for youth hockey and the Cape Cod Cubs.  What followed was a who's who of musical talent throughout the 1970's into the 1980's.  For a time it outshined the Cape Cod Melody Tent and was owned by sports entertainment mogul Vince McMahon.  However it was not meant to be and the Coliseum has been but a memory for more than 35 years.
Get ready to reminisce about all of the exciting concerts, hockey games, pro wrestling events, and more that occurred in a loud building on a quiet street in South Yarmouth, Massachusetts.
Also be sure to check out my livestreams called Without A Map Friday's at 8pm on Instagram which serve as a sort of postgame show for the podcast. Find them on IGTV and YouTube after they've finished.

From the University of Bristol - Martina Delucchi on Classics: Mythology, Philology and Archaeology.

I am very happy to be sharing my conversation with classicist Martina Delucchi. As an Italian, Martina has always had a love for the ancient world. She studied Classics at the University of Genoa and then went on to gain two masters; one also from the University of Genoa, this time  in Archaeology, and one from the University of Pisa in Classical Philology. For her PhD at the University of Bristol, of which she is current studying, Martina is exploring ancient Greek colonial and foundational myths, focusing on the little-known myth of Telephus. We also discuss why we should study the ancient world in the first place. Keep up to date with Martina's work here: https://bristol.academia.edu/MartinaDelucchi and why not following the University of Brisotl's Classics department on Twitter? https://twitter.com/bristol_clah Enjoy!

Ep. 45: Hue Jackson: The Sangria Chronicles

Ep. 45: Hue Jackson: The Sangria Chronicles

Beginning with the backstory behind the infamous sangria photo--in the immediate aftermath of his firing by the Browns--Jackson shares a barrage of previously unreported details about his ill-fated stint with the franchise. Following a one-and-done, 8-8 season as the Oakland Raiders’ head coach in 2011, Jackson had worked his way back to prominence as a highly regarded offensive coordinator for the Cincinnati Bengals, only to accept the Browns’ job under false pretenses. He explains how he tried to fight back against management’s aggressive-tanking plan, took extreme measures to ensure the franchise selected Myles Garrett with the first overall pick of the 2017 draft and received a secret contract extension as an acknowledgment of his raw deal. We also talk agave rashes, Andy Dalton in Chicago, how he almost got the Cal job in 2012 and why he suspects that Baker Mayfield hates him, among other scintillating subjects.

    Gladiators

    Gladiators

In this episode of Tell Me What You Know we're diving into Gladiators. These hardened slaves lived short lives fighting on behalf of their masters, sometimes with the hopes of winning their freedom. The most well known battleground was the Coliseum in Rome. It held 50,000 spectators and hosted hundreds of events each year. It even was capable of filling with water to conduct naval battles. Man I wish I lived back then. Are you not entertained? This is Tell Me What You Know.
