What to expect on a college visit (For Athletes)

Unlock your recruiting with Alex's Baseball-Specific Recruiting Platform

Work with Alex and have a more reliable path to play college baseball:  Alex's Premier Athletes Recruiting Program

What to Expect on the Visit

    1. Meeting with the Coaching Staff: This is typically the first stop. It's an informal introduction where the coaching staff will talk about their program's vision and where they see your son fitting in.

    2. Campus Tour: This isn't just about baseball. Your son is potentially choosing a home for the next few years. The tour will cover classrooms (where he'll spend a good chunk of his time), the cafeteria (essential for those growing athletes), and the dorms.

    3. Baseball Facilities: Expect a comprehensive tour of the baseball-specific facilities. This includes the locker room (a player's second home), the state-of-the-art weight room, and of course, the field where all the magic happens.

    Should Parents Come Along?

Absolutely. Your perspective as a parent is invaluable. You'll have questions and observations that might not occur to a young athlete.

    Dress Code for the Athlete

While there's no strict dress code, being presentable is key. A clean polo shirt or button-up with slacks or khakis and closed shoes is a good choice. It's a balance between casual and making a good first impression.

Questions Your Athlete Should Consider Asking

    1. Academic Support: "How does the team support academic endeavors? Are there tutoring programs available for athletes?"
    2. Team Dynamics: "What's the team culture like? How do you handle conflicts or challenges within the team?"
    3. Training and Recovery: "What's the off-season training program like? How does the team handle injury prevention and recovery?"
    4. Future Opportunities: "How do you support players looking to play at the professional level or seeking opportunities post-college?"

Remember, this visit is as much about the college choosing your son as it is about him choosing the college. It's a two-way street.

As always, I'm here to support you through every step of this exciting journey. Feel free to reach out if you have further questions or need more guidance.

College Visit Pitfalls; Preparing for Results; More Finance Myths

College Visit Pitfalls; Preparing for Results; More Finance Myths
We’re big fans of college visits, because there’s no substitute for getting a firsthand view of the institution. But not all visits are created equal, so in this week’s episode we’ll be helping you avoid some common campus visit mistakes. We’ll also wrap up our two part series on common college finance myths and help you prepare for regular decision results in Office Hours.

The College Visit: What Questions Should I Be Asking?

The College Visit: What Questions Should I Be Asking?
College visits can be an incredibly valuable part of the college process—or they can be a big waste of time and money. Students and families can make these worth their while by thinking ahead about the kinds of questions they want to ask and of whom, and we’ll be offering guidance around both in this week’s show. In another of our ongoing segments on students’ college choices, this week we’ll hear from a student who chose the University of South Carolina after originally setting her sights on small liberal arts colleges. And finally, we’re running part two in our series on tuition reciprocity agreements with a focus on the New England Regional Student Program.
