Holly also discusses her frustration with men in power and their inability to see the labor of motherhood. The "Yucky" mommies talk about what private parts are called in their households and if parents should shy away from telling the truth about things their kids can't fully comprehend yet, or if they should tell it like it is when the hard questions are asked. An unfortunate Fischer-Price accident has recently occurred (again). Jess and Holly discuss the accident and reflect on their own experiences with the Rock 'n Play when their babies were small and other tough situations they've been in with their kids when you look away for even just a split second. The OpenAI Controversy: Unveiling the Ethical Dilemmas and Potential Threats in AI

The OpenAI Controversy: Unveiling the Ethical Dilemmas and Potential Threats in AI
Good morning from OWITH.ai: the podcast that gives you only what's important to hear in AI and tech world. Today, we will discuss the controversies surrounding OpenAI, a prominent artificial intelligence company.OpenAI has recently come under fire for its partnership with Axel Springer, with allegations of illegal use of authors' work and even The New York Times (NYT) to train its language models. These actions have raised concerns about the company's ethics and data acquisition methods, as consent seems to be lacking.Furthermore, OpenAI has been involved in multiple lawsuits, including one with Microsoft, accusing them of copyright infringement. The lawsuit claims that OpenAI copied millions of articles without paying licensing fees, potentially damaging the relationship between media organizations like NYT and their readership. The impact of OpenAI's actions on American media and democracy is a major concern. If OpenAI continues to use stolen data to compete directly with media outlets like NYT, it could undermine the quality of news and influence elections. Additionally, the rise of AI-generated content poses a challenge for tech giants like Google, who struggle to keep up with its sophistication. The influence of OpenAI's co-founder, Sam Altman, is also under scrutiny. Altman's close ties with Microsoft and his return to OpenAI have cast a shadow on the company's reputation. Ongoing investigations by the UK Competition and Markets Authority into the partnership between Microsoft and OpenAI add to these concerns. Accusations of mass copyright infringement and deceptive practices are alarming for the development of AI.Accountability is crucial in this situation, not just for Microsoft, Altman, and OpenAI, but for various industries as well. Proprietary models trained without permission and based on illegal practices can have significant consequences, including for coding. The profit-driven nature of OpenAI's operations and the ethical concerns associated with using illegal or inappropriate training data must be addressed. In conclusion, the controversies surrounding OpenAI raise important questions about ethics, accountability, and the impact of AI on society. It is crucial for companies like OpenAI to prioritize transparency and responsible practices to ensure a positive and sustainable future for AI.

Fantastic Beasts Franchise Spells Trouble: From Surprise Announcement to Uncertain Future

Fantastic Beasts Franchise Spells Trouble: From Surprise Announcement to Uncertain Future
The Fantastic Beasts franchise, a spin-off from the beloved Harry Potter series, finds itself on shaky ground. Director David Yates has revealed that the series is currently on hold and not a priority for Warner Bros. Discovery. What's more, the initial plan for a five-movie series was not the studio's idea but a spontaneous revelation by author J.K. Rowling, catching the creative team off guard during a press event for the first film. The franchise's future looks uncertain due to declining box office earnings, an identity crisis that transformed the narrative, controversies surrounding cast changes and J.K. Rowling's views on transgender rights. While the first film saw immense success, subsequent entries struggled, with dwindling interest and a shift from creatures to a wizarding world war storyline. For fans of the magical world, it seems the Fantastic Beasts series is currently under a spell of uncertainty, with no new movies in sight.

British colonialism was both good and bad Ft. John Zubrzycki

British colonialism was both good and bad Ft. John Zubrzycki
Tune in to the latest episode of The Wire Talks as our host Sidharth Bhatia talks to Australian author and researcher, John Zubrzycki.

The duo talks about the latter's recent book, The Shortest History of India. The book covers a wide range of topics right from the earliest humans to Harappan civilisation to the invasion of the country by Mughals and Britishers.

His book is also documentation of the 5000 years of Indian history including mentions of colonisation to the Independence period.

British historian John Keay says, "The Shortest History of India may be a one-day read but it's no small achievement. Nimbly navigating 5000 years of erratic documentation, Zubrzycki's narrative retains its poise, misses little and is a delight to read."

    Dealing with Church-Related, LGBTQ Controversies

    Dealing with Church-Related, LGBTQ Controversies

WE'RE BACK!  And we're discussing how LGBTQ / LDS controversies affect us now, how they would've affected us growing up, and how they likely affect young, impressionable, LGBTQ members of the church today.

Examples of these controversies would be David Archuleta's recent video about his desire to date men, LDS author and podcaster Charlie Bird's admission to dating a man, the BYU investigation of its treatment of LGBTQ students, and Elder Holland's remarks last year.

We looked for common themes throughout these controversies, what we can learn from them, how we can avoid being offended, and how we can stand firm in our faith while the online mob ascends on us.

Your Guide to Corporate Controversies with Amir Efrati, Co-Founder and Executive Editor, The Information

Your Guide to Corporate Controversies with Amir Efrati, Co-Founder and Executive Editor, The Information

Corporate malfeasance is a cold fact. And when companies lie to the public, real people get hurt.

Amir Efrati, Co-Founder and Executive Editor of the Information, exposes the truths big firms conceal. His reporting has brought corporations to justice, won numerous awards, and been cited by federal judges.

In this episode, Amir discusses the Facebook Papers, controversies around self-driving cars, and the relationship between data-driven decisions and transparency. This one isn't for the faint of heart, and you won’t want to miss it.

    --------

"There was this dissonance between what was privately being shared and what was publicly being announced. People are making life decisions based on completely false assumptions. That's not good for anyone. Investors are investing pension money and other people's money in companies based on what's publicly announced and not what's privately known. That's not good either." - Amir Efrati
