Why Israel Plans to Recruit Indian Workers

Why Israel Plans to Recruit Indian Workers

In the wake of the ongoing conflict, Israel is looking to address a major labor shortage by recruiting tens of thousands of Indians at a time when Palestinians who have long played a crucial role in Israeli construction and other sectors are being barred from the country. In this episode of All Things Policy, Carl Jaison speaks to Karishma Mehrotra, South Asia correspondent for The Washington Post on the factors accentuating this development.

Ep. 45: Roy Wood Jr. on recipe for ONE SUPER COMIC, Touring, and how missteps often shape our success stories

Ep. 45: Roy Wood Jr. on recipe for ONE SUPER COMIC, Touring, and how missteps often shape our success stories

I'll never forget the first time I caught Roy Wood Jr. on stage in LA; his electrifying presence had the crowd in stitches. Now, I'm beyond thrilled to bring that same infectious energy directly to your ears as Roy joins me to peel back the curtains on a career that's had us laughing all the way from comedy clubs to The Daily Show. Sit back and absorb the anecdotes of our shared history, from the heartfelt care package he sent during my deployment to his unforgettable stint at the White House Correspondents Dinner. Roy's narrative isn't just a series of punchlines – it's a masterclass in the resilience and connection that defines the comedy landscape.

Cleveland's notorious weather, it turns out, may just be the secret ingredient to appreciating a good joke. In a conversation that meanders through preferred climates and memorable locations, Roy and I find common ground in the oddest of places. From LeBron James' effect on the city's morale to musing over who'd play us in a biopic – Keenan Thompson and Idris Elba, if you're listening, we've got some ideas – we tackle it all. Our banter extends beyond stages and screens, touching on the passions that color our lives offstage, and yes, that includes a shared love for video games and baseball cards.

Wrapping this episode is a bit bittersweet, like ending a great night out with an old friend. Roy's candid reflection on bombing at the Apollo Theater is a poignant reminder that our missteps often shape our success stories. This chat isn't just about the laughs we've shared; it's a heart-to-heart on the lessons learned in and out of the spotlight. So, as I extend my gratitude to you, the listeners, for joining us on this journey, remember to stay tuned for more stories and insights that continue to ignite the torch of humor and humanity.

    FAITH (UNEDITED!) GONE GOOD
Faith Salie is our most visited good guest and we love having her. A portion of this show originally aired in Ep #61 - our 1 Year Anniversary Show. But we felt like you needed to hear the full, unedited conversation, recorded over two years ago. Prepare for a TALF update, the importance of voting, a discussion of what Steve is wearing, Nancy Pelosi impressions by Faith's daughter, and the turning of tables as Faith commandeers the mic away from Steve and puts him in the good hot seat. Our 3rd anniversary is fast approaching and we thought it would be fun to present you with the original, unfiltered recordings of some of our favorite guests. Warning: If you're offended by anything said in this episode, blame Faith. Want more GOOD? Check out our new Patreon site for more of this here World Gone Good: https://www.patreon.com/WorldGoneGood

On today’s podcast we have Melissa Roberts. Melissa is a journalist covering China for Time Magazine during the years of the Tiananmen Square uprising, has worked as a staff correspondent for The Australian, reported on federal politics from the Press Gallery, and has covered Singapore and Australia for Newsweek Magazine. She is the co-editor of the books, ‘The Beijing Bureau’ and her most recent book, ‘Through Her Eyes: Australia’s Women Correspondents from Hiroshima to Ukraine.

What I personally love about this conversation is Melissa’s authentic passion surrounding the transformation and somewhat liberation of women in media. Melissa speaks to women taking their rightful place in the male-dominated industry; a true advocate for women and diversity in media. In this episode we explore the idea that, ‘when you only hear from men, you only hear half the story’. Please enjoy this conversation with Melissa.

Looking at Problems With Perspective | Ben Feller on Fatherhood, Empathy, Problem Solving

Looking at Problems With Perspective | Ben Feller on Fatherhood, Empathy, Problem Solving

It's easy to get frustrated when your kid loses their mind over something that you know is inconsequential. The old adage "don't sweat the small stuff" doesn't really apply when they don't have enough life experience to know what the "small stuff" even is. As parents, with decades of life experience under our belts, it's our job to help them examine the actual magnitude of their problems. (And if we're lucky, maybe the next problem they encounter will involve less theatrics.) Ben Feller, former Chief White House Correspondent and father to 10-year-old Sam, joins us to shed some light on how best to approach putting problems into perspective with our kids... and how they can surprise us with their wisdom, too.

Episode 67 of Modern Dadhood opens with a rather shocking discovery around anagrams of Adam's and Marc's names. The guys chat about a new milestone for the 4-year-old Checket twins: verbal altercation. The guys use the example of Marc's boys new found communication style to transition into a chat about problems and perspective. They welcome Ben Feller, former Chief White House Correspondent for the Associated Press, Father of a ten-year-old son, and author of "Big Problems, Little Problems" into the conversation. Ben talks about the inspiration for writing his book, the value of helping your kids understand the true impact of their problems, and how they too, can help us as dads understand that our problems may not be as big as we sometimes feel they are. Conversation topics include:

    •  The importance of slowing down and listening to your kid
    •  How to help your child understand the actual impact of their problem
    •  The importance of a single father/son dynamic in a children's book
    •  How Ben dealt with a stressful problem aboard Air Force One
    •  And more!

The guys conclude the episode with a soul-bearing series of Confessions.

A Discussion with Emily Feng, NPR's Beijing Correspondent

A Discussion with Emily Feng, NPR's Beijing Correspondent

Foreign press correspondents reporting in China experience a host of challenges—and not just because of the Covid-19 pandemic and China’s rigorous “zero COVID” policy. As the Foreign Correspondents’ Club of China’s recently released annual report on media freedom details, foreign journalists in China are encountering increasingly stringent visa restrictions, harassment, surveillance, and risk of expulsion or even arrest.

Emily Feng joins Bonnie Glaser on China Global to discuss the challenges facing reporters in China today, as well as trends in Chinese society and Xi Jinping’s first ten years in power. Emily is NPR’s Beijing Correspondent after having previously worked for the Financial Times. She covers everything from semiconductors to girl bands and Chinese coal mines and has earned many awards, including a Human Rights Press Award and a Gracie Award for her coverage of the Covid-19 pandemic.

"Kay" | Insights From a War Reporter

In today’s episode, my guest is a very well-known journalist, that reports on extremism and war from within. Due to his very dangerous occupation and his covert travels to certain places, we are protecting his identity by using the pseudonym "Kay" instead of his real name.

We will be talking about insights from a war correspondent’s perspective who has witnessed and experienced war in Syria and other places firsthand on the ground, as well as the current threat level of terrorism and extremism.

S3 E11 - Jericka Duncan (CBS News Correspondent)

S3 E11 - Jericka Duncan (CBS News Correspondent)

Hosts Atoya Burleson and Tia Avril are working through it on the insideLINES Podcast!

First up, the ladies chat about their weekend, which was packed full of kids’ sporting events. Atoya’s boys won their final football playoff game and are heading to state this weekend! She also got into the holiday spirit over the weekend putting up her tree and holiday decor. Tia’s oldest kicked off his AAU basketball season over the weekend so she spent a majority of the weekend in the gym. She also chats about avoiding a holiday scam that popped up (again)!

Next in Hot Takes, the ladies discuss the lack of accountability in incidents involving both Britt Reid and Kyle Rittenhouse. Britt Reid, son of the Kansas City Chiefs’ head coach Andy Reid, was charged earlier this year with driving while intoxicated after he crashed into two vehicles days before the Chief’s Super Bowl appearance. The Kansas City Chiefs released a statement last week stating that the organization would be covering the medical and long term expenses for a young child critically injured in the crash. Kyle Rittenhouse was acquitted last week in the case involving the Illinois teen who murdered two BLM protestors in Kenosha, WI. Kyle claims the shootings occurred in self defense as he feared for his life. The ladies (along with Producer Scott) dive into these and give honest takes on lack of fairness and justice as well as the justice system that serves one group differently than another.

After that heavy hot take, the ladies bring some warm light to the show by bringing Jericka Duncan, national news correspondent for CBS News and the Sunday edition of the "CBS Weekend News" on to the show. Jericka chats about her humble beginnings in media and the challenges associated with covering and then detaching herself from traumatic stories. She also shares how she navigates motherhood and dating all while having a high performing career! She also reveals her early ambitions in music and her not-so-secret music crush.

If you want to help us out, be sure to follow, rate and review the podcast on the Apple Podcast app. Thanks so much for listening and supporting our show! We really appreciate you.

Citizen of the World ft. Pallavi Aiyar, Journalist
How is the life on someone who hasn't let the idea of settling down deter their aspirations and has just gone with the flow only to have had rich experiences? We often overthink things and fear consequences, and as a result miss out on opportunities while our guest today encourages us to take risks and invite moments of serendipity instead.

She is Pallavi Aiyar, a journalist, independent international correspondent, author of multiple books, and truly a world citizen having lived across Delhi, Jakarta, China, Japan, and Spain to name a few. Also a doting mom to two adorable boys, she takes us through her journey across continents and adulting. We talk adulthood, Motherhood, India's situation at the moment and how as young folks we can lead better lives and support the nation's progress.

So just really listen in, and let go of that fear, try that thing you've been putting off and let good stuff come your way!

Making an Impressive Career in the Media

Jessica Floyd '18 has already forged an impressive career in the media, with stops at MSNBC, NBC News, and WNPR—gaining experience at these organizations while still a student at UHart. Jessica first pursued her love of writing as a writer with the campus publication, Heartbeat Magazine, and went on to become editor-in-chief. She says her work with Heartbeat Magazine elevated her writing and led to other broadcast-related opportunities such as one at Hartford Public Access Television, which served as a springboard for internships with MSNBC and WNPR. After UHart, Jessica earned her Master of Science in Journalism at Northwestern University, after which she worked as a national field producer for the Sinclair Broadcast Group. Jessica joined us from Washington, DC, where she is currently a Politics Producer and Correspondent at TheGrio.
