    Damali's Life in Chicago

    Damali's Life in Chicago

In this episode of The Stylistpreneur Podcast, host Damali Fils shares what life has been like in Chicago.ย

Overall life in Chicago has been good, there are no complaints not even the cold weather! We choose a really nice apartment complex that has a garage, play area, weekly events and a great gym. So really we have no need to brave the cold outside.

August has adjusted to his new daycare and is loving it. I can see that he is learning a lot and growing so fast. The first week we were here he was invited to a birthday party and has since been to several parties. He loves looking at the airplanes out of our windows. And he can't get enough of the city cars when driving down the road.ย

Since moving here in November we have had the chance to do manyย  things. Including most of the top attractions. From the Navy Pier to seeing the amazing view ofย  360 Chicago.ย

    Attractions we've been to:

    • Th eNavy Pierย
    • The Bean
    • Lincoln Park Zoo
    • Wriggly Field ย
    • 360 Chicagoย
    • The Lion King playย
    • WNDR Museum
    • The Color factoryย

We also have had some of Chicagos favorite foods. We've tried three different pizza places lol (Giordano, Pequod's, lou malnati's ). Lou malnati's was my favorite. One of our favorite breakfast spots is Batter and Barries in Lincoln Park.ย

We have had at least 4 different family members visit (my mother, my aunt, mother in law and a niece). Thankfully we were able to go on dates while they were in town. We have gone to a few restaurants, holiday parties and got a chance to see Avatar.ย

The hubby is loving his new job. He actually done a lot of travel lately. Thankfully we have been able to travel with him. We been back to Florida twice since relocating. We will be back in Florida in April.

Every time we move I know someone that lives in the new location. In Chicago I have 3 hair friends. Jessica Wilson who use to do my hair in Tampa, Fl. Kyra Brown who Ive been social media friends with for years and finally got the chance to meet. Lastly Kay that I went to hair school with.ย

And who knew I had a cousin that lives here, Brianna. We went to brunch at a place called Kitchen and Cocktails, it was really good.ย

So there you have it life in Chicago!

    Lets Catch Up!

On this episode of The Stylistpreneur Podcast, host Damali Fils talking about returning to the beauty business after being on an extended maternity leave of 8 months.

For the past 8 months Damali has not done any hair or beauty related activities. With the exception of one hair cut for her mom, lol.ย

After years of stylisting hair Damali felt it was time for a real break to relax, rest and reflect. To take a break from working one on one with clients, having to please people and met demands. It was a much needed break; especially in the midst of an ongoing pandemic.

Damali urges the beauty professionals to also take breaks for whatever the reason may be. Mental health is important.ย

In the past 8 months Damali solely committed herself to being a mom to baby August. They love to try Tik Tok activities for babies, go on walks and hang out in his room.ย

Damali plans too slowly return to working behind the chair. She will take a few clients here and there in the next four months. Her plans are to work independently in a salon suite. She will be giving her clients an update once she knows an official return date.ย

Spring Cleaning and Organizing for New Year

Spring Cleaning and Organizing for New Year

In todays podcast episode host Damali Fils explains the importance of spring cleaning and getting organized for the new year.

    Spring Cleaning:
So spring cleaning is the practice of thoroughly cleaning a house in the springtime. In many cultures, annual cleaning occurs at the end of the year, which may be in spring or winter, depending on the calendar.

In terms of cleaning and starting a new year. The end of a year or the beginning of a year is a great time to do a deep cleaning of your salon and business!ย

So if we are talking about cleaning your salon, which i'm sure it's already nice and clean but what about behind your cabinets? When was the last time you moved it and swept behind it? This is the time to clean and those things and places that you just haven't gotten a chance to do all year, like the base boards, refrigerator, polish the furniture or dust blinds. It's also a great time to organize and get rid of things you may no longer use. Like organizing your files, client profiles, drawers, etc. Use this time to donate and throw away old or unused products and supplies.ย

    Organizing/updating Business:

Once you have your salon/ suite or station all cleaned up and organized, then let's work on cleaning up and organizing your business!

Considering its a new year there may be some new things happening in your business that clients need to know about: like polices, business hours, location, promotions etc. However you communicate with your guests if anything will be changing for the new year now is the time to let them know. (email/ blog/ text)

Make sure that all your business information is up to date on your social media outlets (IG, Facebook, tik tak, etc). Recently visited one of my favorite restaurants in the area and when I googled the address I realized it look as though there was two location, I had to call to confirm the correct address.

If you have changed or increased your prices, this is certainly a good time to let clients know, people do not like surprises. Its also a good time to increase prices at the beginning of a new year. People understand that things change and they are more understanding in the beginning of the year.ย

Another great thing you can do is create a calendar of events promotions for the year, this way you have goals set and things to look forward to. For

How to Stay Motivated During Pandemic

How to Stay Motivated During Pandemic

In this episode of The Stylistpreneur Podcast, host Damali Fils shares advice on how to stay motivated during the pandemic while returning to the salons.

Sometimes it's hard to stay motivated when things are uncertain as they are with the pandemic happening. When trying to stay motivated focus on the following things:

    1. Rediscover Your desire for styling hairย
    2. Focus on your goals
    3. Meditate
    4. Remove distractions
    5. Study your craftย
    6. Join a support group

Whew we are most certainly in some difficult times in life, health and business. It is my hope that we are all taking care of ourselves, taking actions to ensure that we stay positive and motivated and just simply taking it easy. Don't be too hard on yourself, stay optimistic and always hope for the best. You are not alone, there are stylists all over the world experiencing some of the same things that you are including myself.ย

I most certainly hope that this podcast episode especially reaches those that are struggling to stay motivated and that it changes your outlook and puts a smile on your face. Ok that's enough for today, until next time be well.
