Daniel: Clash of Cultures - Part 3 - Faith in the Furnace - Pastor Kevin Pobursky

We continue our look at the Old Testament book of Daniel to see another courageous story of Daniel and his friends in Babylon. When faced with the direct command to bow down to a false image, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego refused to bend their knee to a false god. Through the bravery of these young men, we see how courageous faith rejects idolatrous worship. Listen as Pastor Kevin Pobursky shares how courageous faith helped these men stay loyal to God in our latest sermon, Faith in the Furnace.

078 Bonus Episode (Book of Mormon): 1 Nephi Chapter 20

I really loved going to church today and meeting what feels like my family there. I also got some insights from today´s Sunday school that I could connect to this chapter. I hope you enjoy it!  The next episode that will be on the 2022-11-11. But since I don´t want you to have to wait a whole month for an episode so I decided to add in shorter bonus episodes in between. Once a week to be more exact! This weeks episode I will do another chapter from the Book of Mormon, which is an LDS scripture. We see it as another testament of Jesus Christ, to be used alongside with the Holy Bible. So I will read the whole book, chapter by chapter, and look for the spiritual elements that can be found it it and draw references to my own life.

Until next week: Be the Light. Share the Light. Spread the Light. Shine!

    LDS AND MEDIUM PODCAST BACKGROUND:
I was born into the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, or LDS for short. All my life I felt awkward and out of place, not because of my religion, but because of my spiritual gifts. It was hard to combine the idea of what first seemed like two separate worlds. So my whole life I have tried. I have learnt more about my gifts, and stayed faithful to my faith. But then I heard people left the church because it seems impossible to combine the two. So I am here, to try and mend the rift. To show that it is possible to be both LDS and to have, and use, our spiritual gifts. I am not alone on this journey, but my sister, who just is waking up to her spiritual gifts is by my side and she will also share her story.

Jesus Christ, our older brother, was a healer. He asked us to love one another. So let´s follow in his footsteps. Please join me on this journey, let´s make a community of strong spiritual LDS, or whatever religion you belong to, and all work together to make this world a better place.

Trusting God for who He is, not for what He can do

Trusting God for who He is, not for what He can do

To help illustrate this principle, we can take a closer look at the story of Shadrach, Meshech, and Abednego. While there are many fascinating facets to this story, the essence of what it conveys is both practical and challenging. These men were not trusting God to save them, they were simply trusting God regardless of the outcome. This demonstrates that their trust was not in a hoped-for resolution, their trust was in God alone, whatever was to come of it, even if death resulted.

If you are a believer, why are you trusting God? Are you trusting him to save you from the flames of a fiery hell? What if, for his own purpose and glory, there was no guarantee that he would deliver you from that fate, would you still trust in him? What if when you die, you cease to exist; would you still trust in him today?

What if God had chosen to abandon those three men in the furnace? Perhaps he could have decided that their perishing in light of their undying trust in him would have better served glorifying his name: three martyrs for Yahweh. It would still be a good story and they would still be honored as heroes of the faith. Yet God chose their miraculous preservation as a way of honoring their faith and converting a pagan king. That served his purpose better. Case in point: we’re still talking about the impact of this incident thousands of years later. It is still serving his purpose to this day.

Is your salvation an unspoken condition of your trust in God? Then you are believing in God for what he can do, not for who he is. As believers, we need to remove ourselves from the center of our own faith universe and make sure that we are recognizing and trusting God simply for who he is: God. We need to let him be God, and to unswervingly place our everything: our well-being, our lifestyle, our security, into his hands and let him accomplish his own purpose in his own way. The end result may not look like we expect it to, but it shouldn’t matter. We can be confident it will always be the outcome that best serves his purpose and provides him the most glory.

Daniel 3 The Decree The Accusers and Charges S2E9

Does God have all power?  Undoubtedly.  Is God able to deliver believers from all difficulties and trials?  Certainly.  Does God deliver believers from all trials?  Well no, God may be wanting to build our character for a number of reasons.  The purposes for trials that come into our lives may not be understood, but God asks us to simply trust Him.
