Daniel: Clash of Cultures - Part 6 - Faith in the Face of Lions - Pastor Rob Bentz

As followers of Christ, believers are called to have a faith that stands strong against the patterns of the world. God calls us to be faithful and to stand firm upon Him. As we conclude our series, we'll learn four truths about faithfulness on the journey. In the final message of our series, Faith in the Face of Lions, Pastor Rob Bentz shares how faithfulness to God is so vital to our lives and to the lives of others.

Daniel: The Prophet In The Lion's Den (Ch. 6)

Daniel: The Prophet In The Lion's Den (Ch. 6)

"The Devil is like a prowling lion, seeking who he can devour."

This statement from 1 Peter 5 makes for an interesting contrast with the prophet's experience in the lion's den in Daniel 6.  In both cases, God's people are exposed to a creature that desires to eat them alive. And in both cases, God intervenes to prevent this from happening. Click on this sermon link to hear more.

    Questions That We'll Answer:
    A) Why was Daniel thrown into the lion's den in the first place?
    B) How did he survive? What happened to keep the lions at bay?
    C) How is this narrative instructive or encouraging to us all these years later?

    Daniel 6 A Treacherous Plot S2E16

In this 16th Episode in the Book of Daniel chapter 6 we find one of the most familiar stories in all of scripture.  Daniel was over 80 years old and under a new government formed by the Medes and Persians after the fall of Babylon.  He was about to be appointed head over all administrators in the new government, some began to plot against him.

New Life / Old Relations [Workplace] (1 Peter 2:18-25) [Rod Ohmes] - Audio
Because Christians submit to and trust God fully, they recognize that He establishes earthly authorities over them and calls them to submit to them as well. Christians submit to earthly authorities when God calls them to “for the Lord’s sake” [v.13]. In different levels of government, in the workplace, in the home, and in the church, God has established roles and calls His children to submit to them in varying ways, as expressed in enduring His Word. Peter makes the point that suffering punishment as a result of sin isn’t all that extraordinary, but when believers endure & persevere in the midst of unjust suffering, something special happens. What’s so special? You look like Jesus [v.21-23]. The conduct of believers in the midst of suffering is a picture to a watching world of who Jesus is and what kind of affect He has on a Christian's life. Everything Jesus did He did as an example, but also as a sacrifice. He suffered and went to the tree (cross) for you [v.21]. Jesus bore your sin as a substitute and you are fully healed by His wounds. Do we trust Jesus enough to submit ourselves to His ordained authorities?

    Praying through Daniel 6

    Praying through Daniel 6

Daniel 6 provides some incredible principles for prayer. The focal point of Daniel 6 isn't how to develop a prayer life, but the principles are worth drawing out. Today's episode draws out some of these principles and models praying with an open Bible. For more on this principle of praying with an open Bible, check out my blog post, "I struggled to pray...but something changed."
As I'm preparing to preach this passage on Sunday, Sidney Greidanus's Preaching Christ from Daniel has been invaluable.
