Interview: Tom King (Drawn by Bilquis Evely and Mateus Lopes) - Helen of Wyndhorn (#1 out March 13, 2024) FOC this weekend.

    1. Tom, thanks for being on the AIPT comics podcast!
    2. How do you approach character development in your storytelling, particularly when working on brand new characters?
    3. The tone and structure feel indebted to Robert E. Howard and maybe even Lovecraft. Were there any other classical authors you turned to in constructing the narrative?
    4. I’ve been loving your use of captioning in The Penguin of late, but really all of your captioning shows a strong sense of character and storytelling. When scripting a story like Helen of Wyndhorn, do you start with captions or elsewhere?
    5. Early press materials compared this series to Conan the Barbarian and Wizard of Oz, both evoke fantasy, weirdness, and fights, can we expect all those and more in this series?
    6. Do you have a favorite iteration of Wizard of Oz and a favorite run on Conan the Barbarian?
    7. I’ve loved Bilquis’ work since first seeing her work with Sugar & Spike, with Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow under your belts, do you have a shorthand working on Helen of Wyndhorn?
    8. Something I’ve adored about your work is how to pushes the comics format, which I especially saw with Danger Street.
      1. Is this something you’re conscience of? Are you toying with anything in comics format with Helen of Wyndhorn?
    9. I imagine we’re in for some creatures in this series, what goes into creature design from your perspective?
    10. Last time we spoke you had said Danger Street was done and getting finished, Gotham City Year One was finished, have you scripted every issue of Helen of Wyndhorn?

    FOC November 5th (issue 2)

    1. To start, congrats on an excellent first issue out this week! The reviews are in and Alan Scott: Green Lantern is scoring high marks across comics reviewers, for context, how long has this first issue been in the works?
    2. What made using Hoover so important for your story?
    3. 10 minutes
    4. I found the first issue incredibly impactful, from the care and love Alan and his boyfriend show each other to the cruel world he must navigate, how do you balance writing a story about a gay man in the 40s with superhero heroics?

    6. Your story is taking place in the 40s DC universe, how much room do you have to play, considering a single choice could affect the universe going forward?
    7. Red Lanterns are relatively new in the grand scheme of things and yet…might your story be rewriting the appearance of Red Lanterns? Is there pressure in delivering on that front?
    8. Will you continue to plumb moments in Alan’s life in each issue, or will the narrative be more linear going forward?
    9. The legacy of Green Lantern is growing thanks to you guys, do you have a favorite Green Lantern story arc?
    10. Alan Scott - have you changed your opinion of the character?

    1. This might be kismet this interview is taking place today, because I'm literally 6 days from traveling to London to see the Back to the Future musical! Were you a fan of musicals before turn of the dark, and then after?
    2. Fortune and Glory is a book I read and cherished when I went to college for screenwriting in the early 2000s. It was not only entertaining, but was enlightening about Hollywood and that industry. How much can fans expect from you as far as helpful tips for writing and your process?
    3. Having had a chance to read some of the sequel, I have to say your voice as yourself is incredibly entertaining. Do you find talking as yourself as an easy thing to do in a comics format, maybe that's what you were already doing with Spider-Man and Superman?
    4. You're releasing Fortune and Glory: The Musical over your substack, with a print edition from Dark Horse in the future, about how many months will you be releasing chapters?
    5. You drew Fortune and Glory, what made Bill Walko the right choice to draw the sequel?
    6. How has it been working with Daniel Chabon who is editing the sequel?
    7. When writing about your own life, how tempted are you to punch up the moments and make them bigger than they might have been?
    8. Hollywood, broadway, what will the third book be about? What's left!?

Interview with Jeremy Adams - The Flash Annual 2022 - Serge Acuna

    • The Flash Annual is out August 30 FOC Sunday
    • The Flash Annual #1 2022 features a story about Wally West and Linda Park-West, can you tell folks why now was the right time to explore their relationship and Linda a little bit?
    • The solicit for this annual is a bit cryptic, but the concept is so damn fun we have to talk about it. You've basically got a story within a story here, one of my favorite kinds of comics, but a specific kind at that. What inspired the concept behind this annual?
    • I love how many full page splashes you give Serg Acuna, was there a formula or a thinking process as to where those splashes take place?
    • I have to respect your nerdness, Jeremy, as there's not one but multiple references to pop culture. I think I caught a Harry Potter, a Star Trek, maybe Rocketeer too, do you ever consciously think about putting references like this into the story?
    • Something I think fans will love about this annual is how you write Linda and how you convey her strength even prior to having powers. Why was that important to highlight for you with this annual?
    • There's a cliffhanger here that'll have folks gasp, without spoiling it, how serious are you and DC Comics in pursuing this storyline?
    • In your humble opinion what is a more powerful weapon for Linda, super speed...or journalism/writing?
    • What comics are you reading right now?
    • What is your favorite form of procrastination?
