Dashcam (2022) w/ Annie Hardy from Giant Drag

    Whoooooaaaaaaahhhhhhh shiiiiiiiiiii

Back with a smily face & a deep breath before you press play. This is a catch up with the lead actor from the 2022 released movie, Annie Hardie (the 2021 film festival run can not be included, c'mon you know the drill on A Year In Horror by now). It's been a couple of years since Dashcam was having its festival run & I wanted to get the lowdown from her on how she feels about the movie with this space in between its release & right now. How does anyone cope with the social media attacks like she faced, well, I asked. This episode is the result.

I ramble on for maybe 15 minutes before the interview with Annie begins.

    Enjoy

Episode 207: Favorite movies of 2022

Episode 207: Favorite movies of 2022

It has been a while coming, but we finally talk about the new trailer for Evil Dead Rise. We are all huge fans of the franchise and unsurprisingly very excited to see what direction it is going in. We talk about the creepy trailer and what we liked about it and what has us worried.

There is some interesting genre fair coming at the end of January. This leads to conversations about UFO sightings we had as children and faith based movies we were tricked into watching. We also talk about Nicholas Cage's surprising history with the Left Behind franchise and the interesting decision from Paramount+ to bring audiences a no longer Teen Wolf movie.

The first half of 2022 was a goldmine as it seemed like we were watching an indie or genre gem each week. Things seem to slow down during the second half of the year, but it also included some of the best stuff we saw. We do things a little different this year and start off with some surprises before talking about the stuff we all knew we were going to say.

Our discussion includes a movie with an ending so distressing that two hosts refused to recognize the film as one of the best of the year because of it. Another film riled one of us due to its outspoken protagonist. We also managed to include two (!) movies with ties to El Paso, talk about career performances, and even get a little Weird.

    Episode 174: 'Come to Daddy' (2019)/'DASHCAM' (2022)

    Episode 174: 'Come to Daddy' (2019)/'DASHCAM' (2022)

A horror movie starring Winnie the Pooh seems more like a joke than anything else. We talk about the trailer that does little to take away from the feeling. We also talk about Top Gun and the importance middle aged Americans played in its success. And it is impossible not to talk about the amazing Johnny Depp-Amber Heard trial. We lay it all out here and reveal what sad people we truly are.

Come to Daddy is one of those movies that you need to tell people to give it a chance. Things do not start poorly. On the contrary, it can be argued that the opening moments are the best in the film. But for those who have heard about how wild it is, the first half will catch them off guard. Things change after a shocking revelation.

We talk about the frantic pacing, some memorable performances, and how the beautiful setting ended up being a missed opportunity. Come to Daddy is one of those films that is hard to adequately talk about without completely ruining it. If you have heard about it and are still on the fence, we will help you make a decision without spoiling any of the fun.

DASHCAM is already one of the most polarizing movies of the year. It's anti-vaxxer red hat wearing protagonist will immediately anger some people due to her views. Her juvenile toilet humor will alienate others. But could there be a charm to her? We talk about Annie Hardy and what Rob Savage will do next.

Episode 144: Mysterious Ways Edition: 'Burning'/'The Beta Test'

Episode 144: Mysterious Ways Edition: 'Burning'/'The Beta Test'

After a year of staying as far away from the show as possible, Pablo comes back to talk about two character driven thrillers. We start with a discussion about 2018's Burning from South Korea and close with a talk about this year's The Beta Test. We also talk about another upcoming Stephen King adaptation and have an interview with the Jim Cummings and P.J. McCabe from The Beta Test.

There are just some things we cannot get away from on the show. Another Stephen King adaptation is on the way, and this time Rob Savage is at the helm. We talk about The Boogeyman, whether a short story can effectively be made into a two hour movie, and if a director known for found footage will be able to pull it all off.

Parasite made history at the Academy Awards in 2020. Arguably, the path for its success was paved the year before with Burning. The movie is about a man who runs into a childhood friend. This one chance encounter leads to a carefully laid out mystery, commentary on class, and nuanced storytelling.

Before we talk about The Beta Test , directors, writers, and stars Jim Cummings and P.J. McCabe talk about how they made the movie, what fears they had, and why improvisation does not work for them. It is a great interview that touches on what is wrong with Hollywood and possibly foreshadows the future of moviemaking.

The film itself is a genre mash that includes elements of horror, erotica, comedy, and mystery. It is a modern story that also touches on social media and datamining. But is there too much going on? We talk about the performances, whether the movie is too inside, and the loss of erotica thrillers.

    Episode 142: 'Dashcam'/'Hell Fest'

    Episode 142: 'Dashcam'/'Hell Fest'

31 Days of Horror continues with a visit to the nicest traveling Halloween carnival you will ever see. But when you do not follow the right order when killing plus you main annoying person does their job too well, is the movie worth watching? We also talk about the second movie of the year involving dashcams and conspiracies.

The Munsters are one of the most beloved sitcom families in television history. The news that Rob Zombie was going to  make a reboot was a little worrisome. Zombie is clearly a fan of horror, but he also takes things to the extreme in the worst ways possible. He talk about the latest photo from the set of the movie and wonder why everyone looks so upset.

Dashcam (not to be confused with DASHCAM) is a thriller about a video editor that stumbles upon a possible government conspiracy. It is atmospheric, engaging, and boasts a strong lead performance. So why are we so confused about the movie? We also try to figure out if there is a right way to handle the pandemic in film.

Hell Fest seems like it would be the perfect movie for the spook season. A slasher set at a travelling Halloween carnival, the movie follows a bunch of friends hanging out on Halloween. What happens next should be obvious, except it absolutely isn't. How important is killing people in the right order in a slasher? Is there such a thing as too annoying?

Folge 013: Videoüberwachung auf Privatgrundstücken (14. September 2021)

In this episode, Warren Spiwak interviews Police Officer Ariel Soltura. For those that don’t know Ariel Soltura, his impromptu two-minute game of catch with a child in a parking lot following a traffic stop popularized positive police interactions between children and officers five years ago.
