    Gracism with Dr. David Anderson

    Gracism with Dr. David Anderson

Racism has divided our country and our world for generations. My heart has been broken over it. Maybe you’ve experienced it yourself, or you’ve ached as you saw the divide get bigger.

Is “Gracism” the answer to racism?

My pastor and friend, Dr. David Anderson, planted Bridgeway Community Church 30 years ago, a multi-cultural church, where people of 52 nations worship and do life, together! He is one of the leading voices in the world on the topic of racism and reconciliation and he has created a word, that is more of a solution than I’ve heard anywhere: Gracism.

I am so excited to share this conversation with you as he shares his personal story of growing up in Prince George's County, Maryland, a burning cross on his front lawn, and a mother who put honoring Jesus above revenge or bitterness.

From Dr. Anderson’s own history, God birthed in him a passion to help us find common ground, racial reconciliation, and healing.

    2:11- How David grew up

6:15- The moment that shaped David

    8:50- The outlook David had

19:30- The turning point of how David gave his life to the Lord

22:11- How and when David got the idea of planting a Multicultural Church

31:27- A working definition of racism

35:25- How God works through the Multicultural Church

36:19- Side dishes and how the different preferences are represented with all the diverse cultures

42:02- Gracism: The Art of Inclusion by David Anderson

44:56- The sayings of a gracist

EP05 - Alone in the Darkness | Milton, “When I Consider How My Light Is Spent”

EP05 - Alone in the Darkness | Milton, “When I Consider How My Light Is Spent”

John Milton, “When I Consider How My Light Is Spent.”  In the early 1650s John Milton lost his eyesight.  Blindness forced him out of politics, where he had been an important figure in Oliver Cromwell’s government, and into retirement where he wrote some of the greatest poetry in all of literary history.  In this sonnet, though, he wonders if he has anything left to offer God at all.

As always, thanks for listening! We'd love to hear from you, so please send your questions, thoughts, or otherwise to ProfessingLiterature@protonmail.com.

EP04 - Lunchbreak At the Victory Mansions | Orwell, "1984"

EP04 - Lunchbreak At the Victory Mansions | Orwell, "1984"

George Orwell, 1984, Chapter One. The opening paragraphs of George Orwell’s novel seem innocuous, as a man named Winston Smith returns to his apartment building for lunch. However, from the first sentence onward Orwell estranges us from the world we take for granted and begins hinting at the nature of the totalitarian state which he feared might one day come into being.

As always, thanks for listening! We'd love to hear from you. Send us your questions, comments, or otherwise to ProfessingLiterature@protonmail.com.

EP02 - Losing Your Way at a Picnic | Austen, "Emma"

Emma, Vol 3, Chapter 7.  A bright summer day in Surrey offers a sharp contrast to emotional storms.  In this episode we discuss one of Jane Austen’s great set pieces, the picnic at Box Hill.  Emma gets herself into deep trouble when she embarrasses an old friend, and the man who secretly loves her has to summon up the courage to tell her she was wrong.

Macbeth, Act Two, Scene Two.  In the inaugural episode of Professing Literature we examine a conversation held in the aftermath of one of literature’s most famous murders.  Macbeth has just stabbed a king to gain a throne he will never sit upon securely.  His tense exchange of words with Lady Macbeth discloses the moral and psychological stakes of the act, and hints at the consequences that will follow.

    Pet Sematary (1989)

Listen along to the Rants From the Black Lodge Podcast as the dig up the beloved big screen adaptation of Stephen King's Pet Sematary. However, to properly celebrate the film's 30th Anniversary we had to call in for reinforcements and the call was answered by everyone's favorite lil slice of roadkill, Miko Hughes aka Gage Creed. This episode is a good one so, sit back, laugh and learn about all things Stephen King and Pet Sematary with Brandon and Stankdik Eddy.

Note: We experienced a few audio glitches during the recording of this episode so a few seconds were trimmed here and there to fix these issues. Because of this, if you choose to watch the film along with the commentary the syncing maybe slightly off but not to a degree that will ruin the experience.

Born and raised in California, Peter Moon is primarily known for his investigation of space-time projects. These concern projects in the past, present and future that control both time and perception of time. An avid reader as a young man, he studied creative writing and literature and was particularly interested in both the scientific extrapolations of science fiction as well as the high adventure that it provided.

Peter went out on his own in 1983 and moved to Long Island where his unique background enabled him to forge an association with scientist Preston Nichols, one of the world’s foremost experts in the world on electromagnetic phenomena who had been involved in strange experiments at the Montauk Air Force Station on Long Island which included the manipulation of time.
