Any chance that I get to talk about the television shows that "made" me is what I life for. For the next episode in the interview series I had a chat with writer Thea Glassman, author of Freaks, Gleeks, and Dawson's Creek: How Seven Shows Transformed Television. She focuses on Fresh Prince of Bel Air, My So Called Life, Dawson's Creek, The OC, Freaks and Geeks, Glee, and Friday Night Lights.

We basically just a have a super fun chat about some of our favorite nostalgic moments of late 90s television. My So Called Life, Dawson's Creek, and Freaks and Geeks were the shows we focused on as the others I haven't seen. Although after speaking with her I'm def adding Friday Night Lights to my growing list of classic shows to watch. I discovered so many behind the scenes deets that she uncovered while writing the book.

    Enjoy! ☕️🍿

There is nothing that excites me more than talking about television. As a true child of the 90s, I lived by the tv on weeknights. One of the formative shows of my teenage years is and will always be, Dawson's Creek.

I had an almost 2 hour chat with Stephen and Jayme of Creek Talk Podcast ALL about our mutual journey with the residents of Capeside. We touch on the brilliance of Abby Morgan, the strange storylines and hilarious moments, and other shows and moments that keep our nostalgic hearts beating.

In this episode, Sean, Chadd, MJ, and for the very first time, Sean's robot understudy, Shaun, look at why some really good authors give really bad advice, and how to place yourself in the crowd. Other topics include Dawson's Creek, the continuing search for a podcast platform that isn't Zencastr, and the true origins of the Lo-Fi Beats to Study And Relax To Girl.
We really had a lot of calls to action with that one, huh? Well, here's most of what you're looking for.

Young Americans, Coca Cola and Gothic Horror

This week on Pop Culture Boner we’re diving into a bit of a niche topic - the single-season Dawson’s Creek spin off, Young Americans. This show has everything - weird secret sibling relationships, Shakespearean-level gender play, a Coca Cola sponsorship. Join us on a fun jaunt down the garden path as we examine how Coke accidentally created a gothic horror wrapped in a commercial.

Ep. 192 - PAULA COLE ("I Don't Want to Wait")

Ep. 192 - PAULA COLE ("I Don't Want to Wait")

    SUMMARY:
Our guest is seven-time Grammy nominee and 1997 Best New Artist Grammy winner Paula Cole. She joins us to chat about her early work with Peter Gabriel, her monster hits “Where Have all the Cowboys Gone” and “I Don’t Want to Wait,” her work as an instructor for the Berklee College of Music, and her ongoing musical development, including her latest album, American Quilt.

    PART ONE:
Paul and Scott chat about background singers. Or do we call them backing vocalists? Additional vocalists? I'm not sure we really ever settled it.

    PART TWO:
Our in-depth interview with Paula Cole

    ABOUT PAULA COLE:
Our guest on this episode of Songcraft is Paula Cole. The 1997 Best New Artist Grammy winner rose to prominence with her self-produced second album, This Fire, which spawned two massive hit singles. “Where Have All the Cowboys Gone,” a Top 10 hit that earned three Grammy nominations, and “I Don’t Want to Wait,” which was used as the theme song for the show Dawson’s Creek. Subsequent albums explored a range of stylistic ground, earning Cole critical acclaim and an eventual place on the faculty at the Berklee College of Music. She was the first woman in history to earn a Grammy nomination for Producer of the Year with no male collaborators. The BMI Pop Award winner has a total of seven Grammy nominations, and continues to write and release new music. Her most recent album is American Quilt

    Knock on F**king Wood! (A Catch-Up)

Carolina and Devin talk for the first time in a week and it’s a rollercoaster of a conversation that starts with a tribute to Vanessa Lachey's iconic lines from Love is Blind. Carolina then discusses her isolation in a London hotel room and her attempt to turn a work thing into a true love thing. Devin talks about her journey to Dawson’s Creek and makes an apology for some misguided The Ultimatum comments, which leads her to accidentally shade Mark Cuban. Plus, a much needed celebration of Ashley and Micheal Darby’s official separation!

Sometimes pain just makes the pleasure that much sweeter and that’s the case with this almost-lost episode “Guerilla Filmaking” (Original airdate February 6th, 2002. Written by Julia Rask and directed by Jonathan Kasdan). We had to brave the sting of rerecording an episode to bring you the joy of our white hot rage re Wilder as predator and to unpack the true birth of our beloved OT3. We also get back into the magical world of film and making art with the whole gang which is Fun. Not fun? Getting set up for next week’s ep by manic pixie dream ghost Joey. George of the Jungle

    George of the Jungle
This week, Jerrett catches Sam up on the culture that is George of the Jungle! This was a family favorite for Jerrett growing up, so listen to find out how well it held up for him over the years! We've got a new segment this week, What's Entertaining Us, where we chat about our standard entertainment preferences outside of our CCU watchings. And of course, everybody's favorite segment...Who's Hotter?! Follow the show on Instagram (https://www.instagram.com/catchupculture/) and Twitter (https://twitter.com/catchupculture). Each week, Jerrett and Sam introduce each other to culture they missed out on. They had wildly different upbringings and often have opposite entertainment preferences. Sam was raised on SNL, Half Baked, and Beavis & Butthead, while Jerrett's more conservative household meant the usual Disney fare, westerns, and his favorite thing in the whole world, Star Wars. They've spent their 10 years together rewatching movies and binging TV shows, taking each other on a constant nostalgic ride to relive classic culture.

Join Andrew and Brandon as they journey to January 1998 after doing some catching up. Andrew reads a lovely poem from artist Jewel. The boys do a taste test of the newly released Doritos 3D Crunch and compare them to their memories of the original Doritos 3D from the late 90s. Next they try and fail to debate Team Pacey or Team Dawson because they’re both Team Pacey. Finally they take a Buzzfeed quiz to figure out which Spice Girl they are.
