What Does The Bible Say About Spiritual Gifts In The New Testament
In this episode, Arnie and Fred discuss the miraculous gifts Jesus" imparted to His apostles and those spiritual gifts that the apostles imparted to some disciples in the New Testament times. Those gifts were given to the apostles initially when Jesus sent them out on what os commonly referred to as the Limited Commission. Additionally, those gifts were given to the seventy disciples that Jesus later sent to prepare places He would soon visit. Later, on Pentecost, the Holy Spirit would also empower the apostles.
We talk about the fact that the purpose of these miraculous gifts was to confirm the gospel the apostles were preaching actually came from God. We note what Jesus said to the eleven apostles in Mark 16 and specifically note that they would receive the spiritual gifts only if they believed. Included is a short discussion of the pronouns the Holy Spirit used in Mark 16:14 thru 20 and why this is important to know.
We discuss some of the occasions where the spiritual gifts were used by the apostles and the fact that every time a portion of the gospel message being preached or taught by the apostles, it was confirmed by the performance of a miracle or sign.
The apostles had the ability to confer spiritual gifts to specific individuals. They were always believers who had been baptized. We discuss who these were and the fact that only the apostles had this ability.
