Who Apologises Better - CEO 👨🏻‍💼 or AI 🤖? How much should we give in to Imposter Syndrome? Pedro Pascal — Internet Daddy? feat. workplace double standards

Welcome to another episode of "Workplace Weekly" with your hosts, Fanny and Kate. It’s your usual rollercoaster of overconfident commentary about workplace issues, and a shitpost of a good time. We're excited to announce our upcoming podcast, "Right the Ship," where we'll be diving into the story of a federal whistleblower. We're also introducing a new game show segment called "Who Wants to Be A Forgiven," where we'll be guessing which apology statement was made by a real CEO and which was generated by AI. It's sure to be a hit!

We get down and dirty with parasocial relationships and the pressure they put on public figures. We're looking at you, Pedro Pascal. But it's not just celebrities who face this issue - it's a problem in the workplace too. Objectification and harassment are serious issues that need to be addressed. Finally, our Workplace Savage discusses imposter syndrome and how it's connected to political and power dynamics in the workplace.

Workplace Weekly E4: Neutrality, Race & Media in Workplace Investigations feat. Christina Ro-Connolly (Part Two)

Workplace Weekly E4: Neutrality, Race & Media in Workplace Investigations feat. Christina Ro-Connolly (Part Two)

    Description

For Episode Four of Workplace Weekly, Kate Bailey and Fanny Wandel, bring you Part Two of our interview with Christina Ro-Connolly (whom, we shamelessly stan). Tina addresses some of the disadvantages of allegations regarding workplaves being made publicly and put thrust under a media spotlight. We discuss being committed to the neutral rule, and how Tina & OIG Law incorporates that into practice while also seeking to build healthier relationships with clients and helping them to move forward past the conflict. We asked about materials Tina & OIG have developed around the role race can play in investigations, really shining an exemplary light on OIG efforts to put DE&I into all element of practice for workplace investigators and attorneys. Tina addresses the “window dressing” element clients can sometimes want, and how to navigate this, while still putting values first.

Christina (Tina) Ro-Connelly is a Partner with Oppenheimer Investigations Group LLP (follow OIG on Instagram!). She has over a decade of labor and employment law experience.

First Game Week and Our Favorite TV Characters

First Game Week and Our Favorite TV Characters
Our intro and our sports segment are essentially one and the same this week, as we just kind of blended USF opening week talk with fantasy football talk and mixed in a little toddler humor in there too. We also touched briefly on Deflategate as the decision was expected anytime soon (and of course came Thursday, less than 12 hours later). Then we closed the show out with another list, each giving our top 5 favorite TV show characters. Football Fights and the Suprise Number One Movie

Football Fights and the Suprise Number One Movie
Our prolonged intro this week covers everything from the approaching USF football season to the album Compton, from toddlers and their toilet humor to garage sales and the pains associated with donating stuff afterwards. At 40:54 we start a brief foray into sports, discussing the rash of recent fights in NFL practices, as well as the latest news from Deflategate. At 53:16 we move on to discuss the surprising, overwhelming success of the NWA biopic Straight Outta Compton. And at 57:56 we begin to wrap things up with a new, rousing rendition of Who Would Win In A Fight? The Next Step in DeflateGate and the Minimum Wage Debate

The Next Step in DeflateGate and the Minimum Wage Debate
Our brief intro this week covers Devo's new laptop and our evolving plans for the show's fantasy football live draft. At 4:47 we jump right into sports, discussing the latest developments in the DeflateGate scandal/investigation/punishment, as well as the new rules the NFL has implemented as a result of the whole controversy. At 20:31 we switch gears to briefly talk about USF's new football uniforms. At 26:52 we get to discussing the NFL's first female coach, which somehow devolves into talking about how much we despise Greg Schiano. And at 33:05, we move away from sports for a spirited discussion about the push by fast food workers to bump their pay to $15 an hour. Those Wacky Marlins and Top Sports Video Games

Those Wacky Marlins and Top Sports Video Games
In our open this week, we welcome our new listener from China and take a chance to air our grievances with the traffic citation process. At 20:11 we move into sports to discuss the latest DeflateGate happenings and what it could mean for Roger Goodell. At 23:43 we move on to the NHL to talk some more about the Lightning's Eastern Conference Finals series against the Rangers. At 30:25 we switch to baseball to discuss the Marlins' (more accurately Jeffrey Luria's) bizarre decision to promote (demote?) their GM to manager to replace Mike Redmond. At 37:10 we take some time to discuss trash talk in sports - when it serves its purpose and when it gloriously backfires. And at 42:27 we move into our "non-sports" finale, where we discuss our favorite sports video games. Former NFL player and SuperBowl Champ holds nothing back on cheating, deflating balls, and anything else football.

Former NFL player and SuperBowl Champ holds nothing back on cheating, deflating balls, and anything else football.
Ann interviews former NFL kicker and two-time Superbowl champ, Jeff Reed, about his insights about cheating in the NFL, deflategate and all things football. They discuss how cheating causes a team or a player to go awry in spite of their unstoppability and how cheating always leads to emotional decline. Listen in as Ann and Jeff discuss these topics and Jeff's own life in and out of football.
