E720 From Choices to Chains: The Power of Habits in Shaping Identity

    Choice. Habit. Automatic. Identity.

Todays bad chooces become tomorrows chains.

Welcome to another insightful episode of the Tactical Living podcast. Today, we're diving deep into the journey from making choices to forming an identity and how seemingly small decisions can have lasting effects on who we become.

The Power of Small Decisions: Whether it's reaching for that bag of Doritos instead of broccoli or letting a negative thought linger in our minds, our small daily choices have a ripple effect. What may seem insignificant at the moment can snowball into impactful habits.

The Transition: A choice, when repeated, transforms into a habit. That habit, over time, becomes an automatic behavior, and before you realize it, it's ingrained in your identity. This transformation is so subtle, yet so profound.

The Danger of Negative Choices: It's essential to recognize the potential dangers of negative choices. When these become habitual, they rob you of your power to decide, tying you down in chains of automatic behavior. Like a trap that gradually tightens its grip, you may find yourself imprisoned by your own choices.

Thoughts Shape Reality: Just as with actions, our thoughts follow the same path. Continuously dwelling on negative or angry thoughts doesn't just affect our mood in the moment. Over time, they become an integral part of our identity. The question is: Do you want to be known as the constantly angry or nagging individual?

Breaking Free: Understanding the trajectory from choice to identity offers us a roadmap. By consciously making positive choices, we can shape habits that elevate us, replacing the chains with wings.

Today's episode serves as a reminder that today's bad choices can indeed become tomorrow's chains. But with awareness and intention, we have the power to shape our destiny, one choice at a time.

E718 The Ebony Alert: A Solution or a New Problem in Tackling Racism

E718 The Ebony Alert: A Solution or a New Problem in Tackling Racism

In today's episode of the Tactical Living Podcast, we're diving deep into California's latest move to tackle the crisis of missing Black children: The Ebony Alert. But, is this new alert system a step forward in bridging racial disparities or does it inadvertently fuel the flames of racism?

Understanding the Ebony Alert: California Governor Gavin Newsom has recently signed the Senate Bill 673, introducing the nation's first Ebony Alert. Drawing parallels with the Amber Alert, this new system specifically prioritizes the search for missing Black youth and young adults.

Amber Alert's Origin: Many are raising eyebrows over the name "Ebony Alert." It's important to remember that the Amber Alert was named after Amber Hagerman, a young girl abducted and murdered in Texas, not the color of her skin. This raises a pertinent question: Are we unintentionally racializing a system designed to protect the vulnerable?

Stark Statistics: The National Crime Information Center reported about 141,000 missing Black children in 2022. Moreover, while Black individuals constituted 38% of the missing persons in 2022, their stories seldom make headlines, leading to prolonged and unresolved investigations.

Addressing the Real Issue: While the Ebony Alert's intention—to address the disproportionality in media attention and resources— is noble, is creating a separate alert system the right approach? Or should the focus be on reforming and broadening the existing systems to ensure equity?

Future Implications: With the Ebony Alert slated to be in effect from Jan. 1, it will be crucial to monitor its impact. Will it indeed bridge the gap in locating missing Black individuals, or will it create further divisions?

Join us as we unpack the layers of this complex issue, reflecting on the broader implications of such decisions in our quest for a more inclusive society.

If this topic resonates with you or if you have thoughts and opinions on it, we invite you to subscribe to the Tactical Living Podcast. Let's engage in crucial conversations that challenge the status quo and explore the intersections of societal decisions and their real-world impacts.

E717 Cutting Through the Noise: The Power of Directness in a World of Insinuations

E717 Cutting Through the Noise: The Power of Directness in a World of Insinuations

In this riveting episode of the Tactical Living Podcast, we delve into the fascinating world of communication. Specifically, we explore the chasm between two distinct communication styles: those who insinuate and the straight-shooters who don't.

Decoding Insinuations: Let's start by decoding the often cryptic world of insinuations. Why do some prefer to drop hints rather than state their minds outright?

Case in Point: Consider the generic Facebook post - "Mental health should be everyone's priority. Remember, it's okay not to be okay." Such a post, meant to promote mental wellness, often gets buried under a flurry of private messages asking, "Is everything okay with you?" or "You seemed down in your post."

The Value of Directness: Whether in personal conversations or professional interactions, being forthright saves time, reduces misunderstandings, and enhances the quality of our relationships. Isn't it time we say what we mean and mean what we say?

Keyboard Warriors: While the digital age has many perks, it's also given rise to an army of keyboard warriors, lurking behind screens, insinuating rather than stating, hinting instead of telling. But isn't true bravery about being direct? About having those tough, straightforward conversations?

Building Authentic Relationships: We stress the significance of cutting through the clutter and fostering genuine connections by being direct. After all, authenticity is built on transparency and straightforwardness.

For our listeners, this episode is a call to action: to recognize the power of direct communication, to appreciate the clarity it brings, and to implement it in our daily interactions. Let's shift from a culture of insinuation to one of forthrightness, setting an example for others to follow.

Welcome to another episode of the Tactical Living Podcast. Today, we dive deep into one of the most intense, yet crucial units in law enforcement – the ICAC (Internet Crimes Against Children) unit. It's a topic many avoid discussing due to its disturbing nature, but it's crucial that we shed light on the heroes who bear the weight of this responsibility.

Understanding ICAC: Unveiling the layers of the unit dedicated to safeguarding children from digital predators and the importance of their work in today's hyper-connected era.

"I Could Never Do That": Addressing the common sentiment and understanding that while not everyone is cut out for this role, it's imperative that someone steps up to the plate.

Heroes Behind the Scenes: Celebrating the brave souls who immerse themselves in the harrowing world of child exploitation to extract justice and protect the vulnerable. It's not just a job; it's a mission.

The Emotional Toll: Recognizing the mental and emotional strain these officers endure and emphasizing the importance of mental health support for them.

For our listeners, it's an eye-opener to the harsh realities of the digital world and a call to action. Protecting our children is a shared responsibility; let's ensure we're doing our part.

In today's episode of the Tactical Living Podcast, we delve deep into an emerging trend that's reshaping police departments across the nation.

The New Officer Wave: With seasoned officers opting for early retirement or stepping back due to the evolving challenges in law enforcement, departments are increasingly populated with younger recruits. But what's the larger implication when the balance tips towards inexperience?

Stepping Up as FTOs: Traditionally, becoming a Field Training Officer was a rite of passage after years on the beat. However, the modern police landscape sees younger officers stepping into these pivotal roles sooner than ever.

Understanding the Challenges: A younger force means fresh energy and new perspectives, but it also presents potential challenges in training consistency, departmental dynamics, and public trust. How are agencies adapting?

Capitalizing on the Youthful Energy: The influx of young officers can be an asset. Their adaptability, tech-savviness, and often, a more recent and relatable training can bridge gaps with communities. How can police departments harness these strengths while maintaining rigorous training standards?

Voices from the Frontline: We'll bring in experienced officers and training gurus to shed light on their strategies to guide and mentor these young minds, ensuring they're equipped for the challenges ahead.

Envisioning the Future: As we grapple with this youthful shift, what can we anticipate for the future of policing? How can agencies foster a harmonious blend of wisdom and vigor?

In this gripping episode of The Wright Report, Bryan Dean Wright opens with the tragic wildfires in Hawaii, possibly caused by arson, that have led to extensive destruction and loss of life. The conversation shifts to the unexpected spike in July's inflation figures, linked to rising fuel costs, and what this means for everyday Americans. Wright then explores President Joe Biden's request for further aid for Ukraine and the mixed public response. On a positive note, he covers the US Government's new move to test foreign-made pharmaceutical drugs for contamination, a long-overdue measure. Closing the episode, he announces subscriptions for The Wright Report, providing a way for listeners to support the podcast's future.

In today's episode of The Wright Report, Bryan Dean Wright dives deep into the critical matters affecting American cities and national security. Wright sets the stage by evaluating the state of three major cities—New York City, Boston, and Washington DC—and their grappling with illegal migration. Delving into national security, he unravels a shocking espionage case where a US Navy serviceman, allegedly driven by maternal influence, sold secrets to China. And in San Francisco, car thefts are rampant, raising questions about the city's decision to defund the police. As we close, Wright shares a contemplative reflection on the AI Revolution's potential consequences on America's obesity crisis.

    4. Walking While Black

    Transcript available HERE

Content note: this episode is about racial profiling

“I'm aware that any time I have an interaction with police that my life could be in danger-- or my freedom.” - Gyasi Symonds

After he was accused of jaywalking and then followed back to his workplace, Gyasi Symonds won his racial profiling case against the Halifax Regional Police. But street surveillance of Black people continues across the country. What's behind calls to defund the police in Canada and what does public safety mean? Does it really mean more police on the streets?

We learn from El Jones about the history of defunding the police and abolition, and how technology tends to exacerbate surveillance issues that already exist. We then cross the country to meet Tonye Aganaba who organizes with Vancouver’s abolitionist group defund604, to hear about their work and the people’s budget they conducted. Finally, we sit down with Chuka Ejeckam, a political researcher who talks us through some of his research on comparative police budgets and breaks down the Vancouver Police Department’s video game-style recruitment content on social media.

Very Risky Bet I Made Which Could Have Cost a Client Life in Prison / Palestinians Show How True to Life Fauda, the Best Show on TV, is / Tyre Nichols – Racist Murder or Just Awful Killer Cops? / George Santos Jumps the Shark with Hitler Praise

In this new episode, Jeff recalls a massive and risky bet he made in a corrupt cop’s case which could have resulted in a life sentence without parole – but a great idea helped tip the odds in his favor.  Jeff also discusses the fantastic TV show, Fauda, and how last week’s events show how true to life it really is. Tyre Nichols was brutally murdered by five bad cops, but Jeff doesn’t see this as racism – or does he?  Jeff also believes that George Santos should be kicked out of Congress or put in a cage, either one – and a simple minimal hurdle all candidates should be required to meet is not praising Hitler publicly. Finally, Jeff discusses the ridiculously onerous sentences some January 6 defendants are getting while two bomb-throwing lawyers received slaps on the wrists from a conservative New York judge.
