    Emily T Gail Show espnhawaii: West Hawaii Special Olympics Powerlifting Coach since 1996, Denise Lindsey talks to us from the 2015 Special Olympics World Games in L.A where she is coaching the 3 athletes in the photo who are from Hawaii. They are Chaunci Cummings from Kauai in Athletics (track & field), Ikaika Morita Sunada from Honolulu in Swimming and Isaiah Wong from her Powerlifting team in Kona. Denise talks about the joy of representing Hawaii at the largest sports-humanitarian event in the world this year. Denise shares stories about Special Olympics, started in 1968 by President Kennedy's sister, Eunice Kennedy Shriver, to celebrate athletes with intellectual disabilities including their own sister, Rose Marie.

    Denise also gives us an overview of West Hawaii Special Olympics,free to all the participants. They offer training to anyone interested in volunteering, coaching or learning more about our program.

    Denise Lindsey, volunteer with Special Olympics for many years talks story with JR De Groote, West Hawaii Today and me about the year round efforts and success of Special Olympics on the Big Island and nationally. They continue to grow and fulfill the mission of providing year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for all children and adults with intellectual disabilities. Denise shares about their fundraisers, the coaching opportunities for volunteers, the organizing and participation of special Olympic athletes and families to stage the athletic events and much more.

    Jamie Koizumi, was the USGA Junior Amateur Champion before going on to play for Duke University. She played professionally in the US and Japan and is now Assistant Pro at Waikoloa Beach Resort. She shares some of her experiences as she moved through her golf life and gives an update on the Asia Pacific Junior Cup, a Ryder Cup style event presented by the Hawaii State Junior Golf Association and Hilton Grand Vacations Nov. 8-11 at Waikoloa Kings’ Course. The top junior golfers in Hawaii and the top players from Japan will participate in the event that raises funds for HSJGA and the Waikoloa Foundation.

    Dalen Yamauchi, a member of the University of Hawaii-Hilo Golf Team was Medalist at the Dennis Rose Intercollegiate Davison II Golf Tournament at Waikoloa Kings.’ As a member of the winning team as well, Dalen talks about the wins and the demands and rewards of college golf.
